How many miles on your 3.1?

147k on my 2000...been in the family since 2003. I had to replace the lower intake gasket and head gasket at around 115k miles, but other than that and the infamous loud lifter tick, the engine has been solid. Just keep up with all fluid changes include new oil every 3k, and you should be set. Even after 147k, the engine is smooth as butter and pulls nicely for her age. Great cars for the price, and wish everything was this reliable.

158,000 on my 1997 century 3.1 - Replaced the LIM gaskets at 60,300. Bought new and dealer said after 60,000 the LIM is up to me to replace. Always ran dexcool.
The 3.1 has bad reputation for LIM gaskets. I did them a 2nd time along with the head gaskets. It doesn't leak any coolant but does seem to heat up in traffic. Over half way on temp gauge, but not 3/4.
If they had put a 3.8 in it, it would be one of the best cars ever made.

My 2005 Century currently has 228,000 with plenty of power and life ahead. I have had many different GM vehicles which had the 3.1L V6, which all were for the most part pretty damn reliable. My Camaro, Beretta, Lumina were all had the same and gave me no major issues.

Please post your miles if u dont mind....just wondering how long these engines will last, im at 58,000 with my 03 but hope it will last much longer🙂 There is a neighbor near me that has 275,000 on his 3.8 lasabre, still running good. Just wondering about the 3.1 century though...

My 1995 Buick Century currently has 94,035 as of 3-3-18

2001 Century Limited, 109,000 miles. Engine runs so smooth, I've had passengers think it stalled on me because they couldn't feel or hear the engine.
Lets see how long she lasts.

286,000+ 2000 Century Full rebuild 145,000 Full suspension rebuild, 2 transmission rebuilds, Its personal now.

177K on my $200 2000 Century 3.1. We have put maybe .2 miles on it - short drive at the farm where we bought it, load and unload it off the trailer, and pull it into the garage. Looking forward to getting it on the road.

34,000 on my 2002 Century. It was my sisters and she passed away. This car has been an adventure and learning experience. Cooling system needed burping. replaced 2 of 3 coils, replaced radiator, broke a rear spark plug off, replaced lower ball joints, and having abs warning light problem now. All in 6,000 miles and one year.

I'm thinking of buying a 2003 Buick century from a private owner with 168k on it. It just had a power steering pump replacement. Do you think I should do it? Is it worth it? Is this at an age where things start going wrong?

38,000 on 2002 Century. It was my sisters who passed away. She bought it used and I have no idea about the upkeep. In the last year I have replaced plugs, wires, coils, radiator and front end steering parts. Sure am glad I don't have a car payment.

Those are awesomely low miles. Sorry to hear about your sister, I lost mine this year too. Too young.

How much are they asking.. It's a hit or miss with cars over a 100k and it has to do with alot of things such as how the previous owner treat it. If you are thinking of buying it ask lots of question and if the owner doesn't have the answer then run otherwise you are going to end up with a money pit.. Top of the list to check is if the the oil has mix with the coolant and see if the coolant reservoir is stain or mix with oil.. If it is then run don't walk away..

My '01 Century is edging up on 230K miles now, although it's ticking me off with some radiator leaks. At least it's not too difficult of a repair.

Have a 98 Lumina with 180000 miles just turned it up getting 35 miles to the gallon .
