Buick Ownership
2003 century
I added some cheap LED Switchback turn signals for my wife's 2003 buick century, and the usual resistors. They look and work great at night, however during the day they don't work as expected.

The turn signals are barely visible during the day, and the DRLs are just the same dim amber rather than the white I was hoping for.

At night they look great, they are bright white, and the turn signals are bright amber. It flashes back and forth white-amber instead of white-amber-off-amber if that is useful info.

I assume this is just a weird quirk that the drl on this car uses the blinker circuit rather than the parking light. I also couldn't find a way to disable the drl as they aren't required in my state.

If anyone has any idea how to make this work correctly that'd be great, I was considering getting the led flasher module and deleting the resistors, but I'd still be stuck with the ugly amber drl if that fixed the dim issue.

Here's a pic of the difference at night, I'll try to get a pic of the problem during the day.

Thanks for any ideas!

Hopefully someone can confirm as I'm not familiar with that year Century lightning, but on the Lesabre and PA of that same era it's a issue on how GM wired the DRL circuit that putting in LED headlights doesn't seem possible. From those posts you seem to have the same problem and while it's posted a few times I'm not sure if there's actually been a fix. Again maybe someone else knows more, but you may want to check the Lesabre forum also if you don't get a replay here.

I definitely will! Just to clarify the LED headlights work fine, it's just the blinker/DRL conflict during the day. I wouldn't care if I could disable to ugly amber DRL, but this is also not possible on the 2003.

I also seem to remember when I researched this before, there were a more major changes to the electrical system between 97-2005 than you would think...

Sorry couldn't be more help as my Buicks are 95 and 07 so I avoided the problem but have seen enough post that I'm happy not to try and figured it out. I've seen circuits similar to the switch back that when one is on it automatically switches off the other but if it would apply to LED in concept would work, but again it's a concept. Good luck on getting the problem resolved.
