LTG piston and turbo failure...anyone else?

Just had dealer recheck my LTG engine before the B/Bumper expired and said they did not find any indication of a pending failure but they cannot be 100% sure down the line. I think we should be adding build dates from door jam data plates on this thread to see if there is any pattern to these piston failures- My build date is 11/2013 odometer reading 32,334 miles

I can only assume the Door jam data plate is the assembly line completion date, Pre-ordered in September 2013 delivered to dealer on 12/1 and drove off the lot on 12/5. I"am now trying to find a date stamp on the engine block to see if they are same or close to the door jam data plate information.

How did you find the build day? My door jamb says 6/2014.

BTW 6/17 is my birthday.

If you can provide me with the last 8 of your VIN # I can find out what day yours was built. I work at a GM dealer and have access to that info.

Maybe it is buried in this thread but was this problem identified and corrected and if so with what model year engines?

I just found it in the paperwork a GM tech printed out for me in Global Connect.

Build Date 06/06/2014 Build Plant: 9

Not sure about you guys, I always ran Dexos Mobil 1 full synthetic....until about 2 or 3 oil changes ago I went to GM's Dexos 2 which is full synthetic. Not sure if its coincidence but I never had an issue until I switched to the Dexos 2 full synthetic.

Either way cars fixed and sitting in the back lot till spring. Snowed early this year and didn't feel like writing it off trying to get it home LOL

So far dealer has done every oil change so I'll assume improper oil was never part of my problem. And as of the past week or two, huge clouds of blue smoke on startup in the mornings. Only about 15k on this replacement motor.

1st and 4th piston were fried and the turbo is cracked....so 4 new pistons and a new turbo for this guy. I have seen LTG powered cars and Buick Encores come in for pistons quite a few times but figured I was in the clear maybe because of my tune and running the best gas possible. That was not the case which I'm kind of glad this happened while it's under warranty because if the pistons didn't go I would have never found out about the small crack in the turbo.
You mention your tune. Were you tuned before and went back to stock to get warranty coverage?

I lost #4 at around 30k and had the Trifecta tune since 10k. Removed the tune before I brought it in and didn’t have any problems. In fact, I barely made it home from the dealer when they called and said they had seen this before and we’re replacing my engine.

Mine went in just over a week ago. Diagnosis was #1 piston cracked ringland 70psi compression. 4 new pistons, picked her up this morning. This is a 2015 with 42k miles when she blew. I was BNR tuned for 2 weeks before she blew up. Flashed back to stock a few days before going to dealer. Thought i was up the creek when my dealer told me they were waiting on an email to determine coverage but thankfully covered under warranty.

What year, mileage did you have when it blew?

I have not heard anything about the Camaro LTG's although I work at a Buick GMC store and the techs here say a couple of their buddy's at the Chevrolet Cadillac store that they are putting pistons in LTG's all the time...didn't get into the specifics of which vehicles, ATS obviously.

Just drove mine now, feels fine to me doesn't seem any different from before the issue happened. I will still keep it though as I still have lots of warranty and cant break even on it until about another year and a half or so which I am fine with.
I'm driving an ltg ats and came to this forum to see if there were any similar issues. My car is down, AGAIN... and after test we think it's my 1st piston as well. Car has minimal upgraded parts so far and a tune all through zzp. I was really hoping to jump on here and hear that the pistons were s**t for this engine so thanks for that lol

Hey everyone, I'm pretty late to the conversation. Bought my 2015 Regal Turbo back in 2020, at the time it had 61,000 miles on it. Bone stock. Since then, the only add I have done is a K&N CAI. She's now at 91,000. Last Thursday, I was getting on the freeway like usual. Had a nice pull to 80mph until I let off and heard the usual gratifying sound of my diverter valve opening. After that though... things went.. South. I immediately lost power, temp started to creep up. As I pulled off, I noticed a faint white/blue smoke in my rearview mirror. Shut her down. The codes being thrown are P0299 - 'Turbocharger Underboost Condition' as well as letting me know there is a Misfire in Cyl 1. I took the shroud off of the turbo to get down to the actuator and it seems to be pretty seized. What would be the cause of this? Stuck diverter? If that is the case, what would have caused my Cyl 1 to start to misfire? Could this be a possible EGR issue that fouled my plug? I'm at a loss. I haven't taken it to get looked at yet. Worried this is gonna be steep...

My GS has over 250k miles on it. It's had a Trifecta tune on it since around 70k. No issues. I drive it hard and have used 87 and 93 off and on during its lifetime
