One other quick post ... went to get gas Tuesday evening. I always have the keyless entry fob in my pocket. Usually, when I get gas, the car doesn't tend to lock itself until I pop open the cap and go to the pump since I'm still close enough to the car. This time, though, I must have walked far enough around it that the car locked itself. I couldn't get the gas "door" open and started to panic .. thoought it was broke, thought I was going to have to try to pry it open and ruin it, or ruin the paint, or both .. then thankfully dawned on me that maybe the gas door locks when the car does.

Sure enough, I hit the unlock button on the fob and the gas door opens. So .. for any other dorks/noobs like me, know that your automatic locks also lock the gas door on your Regal Sportback, or at least they do on my 2018 model. : )

Also, no emergency release like my other cars have.

Next time it locks up before releasing the filler cap...
Leave the fob in your pocket and press the passenger rear door handle button to unlock the gas door (it's just a few inches away).

LOL, same thing I did when I first got it, went in to panic mode for a second, but came to my senses and remembered to unlock the doors before prying the gas door open.

I disabled the automatic door locking in the settings menu (it drove me nuts) and always use the tiny silver button on the door handles to lock and unlock the doors. Never have figured out which buttons on the fob do what.

I tried this when I went out to my car last night .. works perfectly! great to know that passenger rear door button can unlock the gas door too! Thanks again @FavaBean

I haven't looked at it from inside yet but I wonder if there is a way to rig up a manual release, or even something you could jumper it with 12V to get it to release. Somewhere on this forum is story of guy who had a BCM problem that prevented it from working and he couldn't put gas in it. I'd be open to disabling the fuel door lock altogether or putting in a toggle switch so it would engage only when I wanted.

A lot of us would like to know the same thing.

We figured out how to get car out of PARK when car not running (I.E. After accident and needing to be pulled onto a flatbed) but nobody has figured out how to open fuel door if fuel door stuck closed. No emergency pull cord to open.

If you mean getting out of PARK without engine running - ——
Press Start/Stop button (WITHOUT Foot on Brake, for six or seven or eight seconds. Car goes into Service Mode. Then press brake and pull shifter out of park.

Cool, I just saved this to evernote, so I'll have it if the need arises...hoping it doesn't (knock on wood)!

Thank you.

I thought the auto-lock had nothing to do with distance, but time.

I've had it lock less than 2 sec. of shutting the door, before I've even gotten to the back to open the tail-gate. Then I've had times when I've walked at least 40 feet from it before it locks. I think there's Gremlins doing the light lifting.

I turned Auto Lock OFF in Settings.

Not sure of the date but newer production cars don’t have a locking cover anymore.

Not sure it would fit, but Ford offered an accessory licking gas cap for my 2010 SHO and 2011 MKZ. Fits right over the filler
