radio not turning off when door is opened

I have to believe that it is both physically positioned differently and a logic function (probably in the Driver's Door Module), otherwise 'Door Ajar' would be displayed anytime a door was open, rather than a warning function of a door not fully closed.

I was able to obtain the retained accessory function for the radio (it's actually built into the radio, just commanded 'off' by the bus system) and a fully function security system by using the 'Dome' input only as a trigger for a door being opened when I transplanted the radio from a 2005 LeSabre Limited.

Of course, it also took the DIM (Dash Integration Module), IPM (Instrument Panel Integration Module) , DDM (Driver's Door Module, RIM (Rear Interface Module), XM Radio Module (some weird acronym for it) and RCDLR (Remote Control Door Lock Receiver) to get fully functional with keyless remote entry (Driver 1 and 2 also).
It was $70 and a fun project, and I like the looks of the radio in my Caprice.

Assuming it's like others, it's a delay to leave the radio on without having the lights go on before leaving the car. Clever way of tricking the system, sort of lol. In order to find out how they are stacked someone who has replaced it may know the wires on the switch, or yank the door panel and look.

CorvairGeek, nice installation job. A labor of love, I am sure!

I think you're right about the two door latch switches (Door Ajar and Dome) being located in different places.

Maybe the Door Ajar switch operates when the latch is released with the door still closed, and the Dome switch operates when the door latch clears the catch on the frame when the door is opened.

Does anybody know?

Hi All,

I believe this is my conclusive posting on this thread. I have had zero symptoms of the problem for more than six weeks now, and the only thing I did was spray WD-40 into the latch mechanism.

I've sprayed the latch a few times over the past several days and the problem seems to be going away. The latch doesn't always return to where it should go but I know that I can just move it with my finger and it turns everything off.

Not worth the 2hrs or $115 when it takes .03 seconds to fix if it doesn't return correctly.

I'm going to keep spraying it and see if over the course of days it gets lubricated enough to function properly 100% on its own.
I have the same problem with my 2004 Buick Lasabre Edition. When I turn the ignition off the radio stays on and to turn it off, I have to open the passenger side door. It goes off. I didn't look to see if the light comes on. What is causing this to happen. Also I can not use the cigarette lighter to charge my phone. It drains the battery as well. Any help will be appreciated.

hi all,

this is quite annoying as it won't allow the car alarm to properly arm if the radio is still on. is there a sensor or an object that might be causing the radio to not shut off when the door is opened? sometimes I can get it to turn off if the door is opened slowly; sometimes it won't. sometimes it takes me opening several different doors before the radio will turn off.

I have a 2004 lesabre celebration edition.

any ideas?
Do you still own your Buick lasabre edition. I bought mine 2 years ago. Problems ever since. My radio stays on after the door opens that I have to open the passenger side door. Any advice would be helpful.

Have the drivers side door latch repaired. It has a switch that is causing your issue.

Here is how our son-in-law fixed it in our 04 LeSabre:
The problem was that the lights would not turn off after the driver’s door was closed. All other doors turned off the lights, so I knew the issue was in the driver’s door.
I deduced the latch was the problem because the lights would turn back on after I moved the latch “by hand” with a screwdriver. It seemed to require moving slightly further than the latch would naturally go before the lights would turn off. .
Several people suggested using WD40 on the latch to make it move easier, so I applied it liberally and gave it a week to soak, with no results. I reapplied WD40, gave it a week, and again nothing. So, I ordered a lock actuator with latch assembly off of Amazon for about $36.00 (https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B085XNC6HB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I have been very happy with the quality of the product they sent. With one small exception, it was exactly what I needed. The one problem I had was that the rod clip for the manual door lock (the one you pull up to unlock the door) was not the same size as what I removed and I had to swap the new one for the old.
Besides the tight access and not being able to see what I was doing, changing the latch was generally a straightforward process. I’m sure an expert could do it in 20-30 minutes, but I took just over an hour. To get the door apart, I watched a YouTube video as I went along (
); it was very accurate to the process. I used a plastic scraper and screwdriver to pry off the panels.
Once all of the interior paneling was removed, there is a large, thick piece of plastic that has to be pulled back. I used a plastic scraper to get under the gummy sealant, but didn’t remove any of the sealant from the door or plastic so as to be able to reuse it later.
I reached in and removed all electrical connectors on the actuator assembly. I then undid all of the clips that held in the rods that connect to the actuator. After I removed the three Torx screws from the door latch (on outside of door in the jamb), I had to loosen the inside door handle assembly to give more room to pull out the assembly. You could probably do that before loosening the Torx screws. Once the actuator/latch out, it was simply a matter of doing everything in reverse. I wish I would have checked the size of the rod clips before I put the assembly back in because I probably spent ten minutes trying to get a too small rod clip to work. I finally figured it out and the old piece fit fine where the new piece was.
There is another YouTube video that shows the process of the rear left door that I think could also help greatly, because it has a video of the actual latch from inside the door
.

I know this tread is old but if anyone still having this issue i found the solution. It’s a internally broken wire on the window regulator harness, u can’t really see it Bc it’s cover with factory electrical tape
