Guys

Coming up on my first oil change---What does Buick or dealership suggest, regular or synthetic?
I only put on about 8k miles per year, so I am leaning on regular every 6 months. (4k Miles)
Even with synthetic oil, is it OK to go over a 6 month interval? Is it OK to go 12 months at 8000 miles?

Thx,
Al

Based on the information in your owner's manual. Your should use only engine oil licensed to the dexos1® specification, or equivalent, of the proper SAE viscosity grade. ACDelco dexos1 Synthetic Blend is recommended.

SAE 5W-30 is the best viscosity grade for the vehicle. Do not use other viscosity grade oils such as SAE 10W-30, 10W-40, or 20W-50. Cold Temperature Operation: In an area of extreme cold, where the temperature falls below −29°C (−20°F), an SAE 0W-30 oil may be used.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any additional questions. Thank you.

Tricia, Buick Customer Service.

I plan on using full synthetic oil (dexos1 spec) when I do my first oil change. That will likely be at the one year anniversary of the car and around 14,000 kilometers (8700 miles). I see no reason for changing oil at six month intervals unless the mileage determines it's necessary. I'm comfortable letting the car's computer determine when an oil change is necessary.

The manual says to check your oil every 12,500 miles and change it if required. Look at your center display to see your oil life remaining.

With the Verano, and many other new cars now, the oil can't be that bargain basement 99 cents per quart. It has to be dexos1 spec. It is more expensive, and lasts longer in the engine.

As long as you have dexos1 spec oil, you are good...whether it is full synthetic or a blend. But make sure it meets the spec.

Alpet, for your driving habits, I would only change your oil once a year. Don't waste your money.

I have over 16,500 km ( ~ 10,250 miles) on my car in 5 months of ownership and still have 21% oil life remaining. My Onstar email says that I will be do for an oil change at 20,500 km.

Go over to the Lacrosse forum. There are pages of discussion on this. Lol. When I lived in a cold climate I used synthetic since its viscosity was more consistant over a wider range of temperatures. Down south I use what is called out in the owner's manual.

I've put Mobil 1 in at the first change. Dealer said this was just fine in the car. will use Full Syn in the car always. I drive a lot of miles. I bought mine Feb 26th last year and I now have 21k.

I am going with full Synthetic. I traded in a 1997 Grand Prix GTP with 204,000 miles. I installed full synthetic at the 1000 mile mark and never had any internal engine problems. The car was not stock either. The turbo comes with 1/2 reg 1/2 synthetic. My dealership does it for 49.95 with Mobil 1 (Valvoline wants over 70.00)

Guys
Thx for your input on oil change intervals, very helpful. My dealership suggested 1st change (free) after first 4 months regardless of mileage. I think that is too soon, I may go 6 months for 1st change, then yearly thereafter.

Is high mileage oil change good to use on my 2014 verano if miles are 108000

You guys are out of your minds paying someone 70 dollars to do your oil change. Do it yourself. I change my wifes oil every 3k miles with mobile 1 full synthetic and it costs me 22 dollars plus a filter so 26ish. Buy your oil at Walmart too, don't spend 10 dollars a quart at Autozone. I recommend the high mileage oil as long as it has the dexos label on it. For whatever reason mobile one high mileage is not rated for dexos so just be mindful when buying your oil.

If you change full synthetic oil at 3000 miles your wasting your money.
You can run it for at least 10,000.
My pickup has 400,000 miles full synthetic changes around every 10000 miles.
The engine runs perfect it's never been touched.

I am one of those out of my mind wasters of money. My whole life I have changed all fluids far more frequently than the manufacturer recommends. Their goal is to get through the warranty period. My goal is for the drivetrain to last forever.

No offense but you choose a Buick Verano to do that ..

400000 highway miles mostly? I say change your oil every 5000 miles or if black. Change coolant every 12 months if you can do it yourself. Change AT fluid at 40000 and before 100000 and never after 100000.

I have heard people say never change the ATF on a high mileage tranny. I have never understood why. I suppose fresh fluid would attain higher pressure which could adversely affect old dry seals, but that is all I can think of. I also think clean fresh hydraulic fluid would be good for everything else. I just changed mine at 124K. I have no idea if it was every changed before, but it was not too dirty which hints ast a change at some point in the past.

the never thing is a lie, there are **circumstances** you dont change ATF and sometimes high mileage is a trait that tags along to those scenarios

Not changing trans fluid was a practice used in the 60's for GM's Roto-matic (slimjim) transmission's. Fresh fluid without the dirt and crud made them slip. When I worked for Olds in the late 60's we used to add Comet or Bab-o to a fresh fluid change that a customer insisting of having. On any transmissions other than what I mentioned follow what the Manual says.
