Hey all,

I'm new, not just to the forum but to Buick and GMC. I've always driven imports (and loved them!)

I have the opportunity to buy a new 2014 Verano Leather Package (but no sunroof or nav) for $22,900. Should I jump all over this?

I'm also considering a Jetta, and I might keep looking. I just can't decide!

Is this price too good too pass up or is it a fairly common sale price?

Anything I should know before a final test drive tomorrow?

Thanks for all of your help!

That's an excellent price for that level. I know if they had offered me a leather packaged 2014 for that price I would have jumped all over it.

Noticed you said you were also looking at a Jetta. I did too. Looked at and drove a 2014 Jetta TDI. Liked it from a driving standpoint, but the trim level was very austere in comparison. And then I looked at scheduled service costs and the Jetta went from #1 on the list to off the list! To match up in trim would have needed to get a Passat fully dressed w/a sticker price of about $32K. No sale.

That is certainly a reasonable price...assuming you are getting the Turbo included with that option group. I just bought the exact same car, also minus nav (portable navi are much better and more flexible) and minus sunroof (another possible leak point and adds noise to the quiet cabin). I paid about $3,500 more than you.

I have put 3,500 kilos on mine and love it! Getting ready to leave on a 10,000 km. cross-country road trip next week.

Looks like a good price. Not sure what invoice is but I'm Edmunds or otherd have that info.

If you're on the fence driver them both....again. 🙂

I bought it. With my trade in (a 2004 Subaru with over 105,000 miles on it that I think they overpaid me for), I paid $18,000 USD for the car. I think I got a great deal and love it so far.

Is there anything in particular I should know about the car now that I'm an owner?

Congratulations! My Buick is the Regal, a slightly larger model, but I have the same non-turbo engine (2.4L, ~182 hp, right?). When I've gotten into a Verano, though, just sitting in one on the dealer's showroom floor, it felt snug and solid like a small vault on wheels. I'll bet yours drives that way too.

If you're coming from imports -- as did I; I drove older Mercedes for 10 years before going Buick -- you'll find the parts costs and maintenance demands of your American car to be quite a bit easier on your wallet. And the Buicks of today are as much fun to drive as any German import I've tried. I test-drove an '08 Mercedes E-Class diesel about a year before I bought the Regal. To me the MB was no better a ride -- at least during the test drive -- than is the Buick.

Be firm with the gas pedal. None of this "Is it okay with you, Mr. Verano, if we move away from this light now?" No, you want a firm "Yes, we're moving! Now!" Once I got used to the revs from the 4-cylinder (my previous car was a V-6 Park Avenue with a 200-hp engine), I was fine. And I think your car is lighter, so it should be no trouble to drive "spiritedly."

Enjoy it, and wave to fellow Buick owners as you go.

You made a great decision and got a great deal! Verano truly feels like a compact luxury car, everything about it looks and feels "premium", just what a Buick should be.
What color interior/exterior? Which wheels?
Congratulations again and enjoy the (smooth, quiet) ride!

For a '14 model that is a very good price, according to the website and what I've seen in my area, they are about $3,500 more than that.

Thanks, everyone! I definitely need to get used to it a little: I love driving it, but the engine shifts are different than what I was used to (not bad, but different!)

It's a 2014 leather package, smoky gray metallic on the factory standard wheels, I think...

So far, I'm really liking it!

I fully understand the shifting being noticeable and different. But every 4-cyl car with a 6-speed auto I drove a couple months ago was about the same. Seems that is just the way it is these days. you'll get used to it.

Someone here described the smoky gray metallic (which I also have) as being like "a perfectly fitted, bespoke banker's suit." Excellent choice of words.

It took me a little while as well to get used to the smaller engine and 6-speed transmission, and the ride, so different from my larger car. Now I look forward to going places in it. You will too.

That's one of the things I've noticed too. I came from a few previous Buicks, and traded a 2009 LaCrosse for my 2013 Verano. The Verano definitely is different and it is certainly more fun to drive than the LaCrosse was.

Right now I'm having a love/hate relationship with the Carbon Black Metallic. Looks so good when clean, but such a PITA to keep that way!

The colors that "hide" dust are the silver and the gold, and I'm not sure the gold (which you can get on the LaCrosse) is available on the Verano. The dark gray metallic is a good compromise; it's not so dark as to show up dust the way the black paint jobs do, but still looks elegant.

I used to refuse to buy dark-colored cars, saying they would be harder to keep cool in hot sunny weather. But the A/C in the PA and now in the Regal stand up to heat just fine. (Though I have tinted windows, park in shade when I can, and put up sunshades in front and back!)

I don't think yours is Smoky Gray, Benzadmiral. I had a '12 Regal GS (before I traded it on a '14 Cadillac CTS) in Smoky Gray which, if I recall correctly, was a new color for 2012. Yours might be Cyber Gray which is a lighter shade than the Smoky.

It's very possible. GM keeps renaming its colors. My Park Avenue was Granite Metallic, and I've seen that name applied to the color of my car -- I think it's on the window sticker. But it's a lighter shade than the PA was.

My 2009 LaCrosse was Slate Gray that looked very good and didn't show everything. Though it made the car a bit plain, it was a good looking color for that body style imo. Overall I really like this Carbon Black Metallic and use a car cover quite a bit. I even use it in the garage as I have garage cats that like to sit on every damned flat spot they can find! 🙂 The cover keeps it looking good.

Right now I don't park outside the garage as my flowering poplar tree that is beside the driveway is putting out buckets of pollen! 🙁

Yeah, garage cats love to sit on the warm hood in cool/cold weather don't they.😡 Lol.
