2018 TourX Essence
Well this forum has been kind of boring lately. Other than this:
Anyone Interested in a Zombie Apocalypse Ready TourX?
With a little more work, it could be Batman’s mom’s car.

I guess no news is good news, I have not seen posts on major mechanical failures or other horror stories, Just a bunch of trial stuff.

It is inevitable that I will be doing something to up the power put to the ground with my TourX. I can’t leave almost well enough alone Not that the Tour X is slow, If fact it is sort of swift, but sure is not exciting, never mind scary fast.

Reading this just gets me all excited and tingly
V60 Polestar

Given the TourX is a Buick and the transmission’s torque capacity is 480 N-m ( 354 lbs-ft) and the LTG’s cast pistons have been known to shatter ring lands under high boost, there is a limit to power adders.

I figure close to 300 wheel BHP and 350 lbs-ft on 93 Octane just might make the TourX a 14 Second flat / 100mph trap speed ¼ miler, while not breaking either itself or my finances.

Simple upgrade plan is:
  • A tune, leaning toward Trifecta.
2018-present-buick-regal-20l-turbo-elite
  • A catted downpipe.
Catted downpipe with O2 sensor
  • A Mama Bear sized Turbo.
BorgWarner/BorgWarner-EFR-6758-G

Here Are some links I found regarding getting into the internals of the LTG 2.0L motor.

At some point when it is time to replace, I will go to higher performance tires, Grippier Pads , Stainless brake lines, & and high boil point fluid.

Maybe shock, if there is real gains to be had.

That’s the Plan,

Comments and suggestions welcome?

Car and Driver published a road test of a FWD Sportback and said it ran 14.1 @ 101, if I recall correctly. Now, the AWD system would add about 175 pounds; I'm not sure how much heavier the Tourx body is, but I think your goals are attainable.

A flash tune is where I would start. As a newbie to Buick, I’m not too familiar with the different options, but given that it’s GM they’re not hard to find.

I agree that overboost is a grenade waiting to happen - as it is in most set-ups using stock internals (again not sure how stout our engine is). However 300 at the wheel seems very reasonable - I was using a simple Burger stage 1 on my 328i (4-cyl turbo n20 engine) and was somewhere around 270 peak. I dropped in a high flow Pipercross air filter (ok - so these really don’t make any gains) - but I got it for free and it was the only other thing I changed.

Not sure if there are tunes using e85, but that might be an option to explore?

Catted downpipe would be a nice addition. And it’s pretty reasonable (looks great too!)

Can the stock intercooler handle a bigger turbo? Will there be more lag?

And while the AWD does weigh more, it sure is a nice advantage for getting off the line.

Intrigued to see what you do here - I’m always interested to learn about performance 🤔

Since you said the forum has been boring lately, I'll stoke the fire with some controversy.

I'd do shocks / springs well before I'd do a brake fluid 'upgrade' as there would be instant gratification from the suspension change. I can really only see the brake fluid 'upgrade' being useful for full day track events, but even then I'd spend money on a set of tires specifically for that day before I'd change the fluid. Don't even get me started on stainless lines... I'm still running the OEM kevlar w/ rubber coating lines at 300k miles on my '03 TDI, so unless the quality of the brake lines seem jank I won't be touching those.

Of course, these are just the ramblings of the 'R Man.' Definitely keep us posted as you progress on your upgrade journey as I don't plan on doing anything more than a tune for quite a while. I figure if the original turbo is still going strong at 200k miles, I'll retire it for something bigger and tune accordingly.

I was just about to recommend you contact ZZP. They do make parts for the LTG, and maybe some things can come over. They are building a 2.0T Camaro right now.

I wonder if they would let you test some compatibility of parts.

Since the TourX is primarily my wife's car and I have my 3 toys, I'm probably not going to go crazy modifying. I might just retune it myself once HPTuners opens them up. I'm not happy with their stock transmission stuff.
