TRIFECTA presents: Buick Regal / Regal GS MY2014-2015+ Powertrain Calibration

Anybody with a 14' GS AWD installed this tune yet? I would love to hear some impressions from actual customers.

It is just about time for me to pull the trigger, I am tired of being slow..

I don't have AWD, but the latest TRIFECTA tune for a 2014 GS FWD 6 speed,,,, really woke the LTG motor up. 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear are fun again. Get the ELITE package and re-tunes are free when you make any modifications.

One heads up tho... You have to wait for the "new" RED EZ Flash Cable (in the mail).... I tried to load the tune with the "old" RED EZ Flash cable and kept getting a FAILURE TO COMMUNICATE WITH VEHICLE error.

I used the "new" EZ Flash cable and the new version of EZ Flash on my PC and everything went fine.

TRIFECTA needs the "select a tune" option for the '14 & '15 models like they had available on the '11-'13 Regal tune... It would make it way easier to drive in the snow if I could turn all this added torque off.

Overall I have to say GREAT JOB TRIFECTA! REP +1

*BONUS*

My Bluetooth OBD thingy doesn't work on my 2014, and it worked fine on my 2012. (has nothing to do with the tune)

Wait, they don't have the select-able tune anymore?? That was one of the most enticing things...

Glad you are enjoying your new calibration Nizerims! The new programming for the 14+ Regal is dynamic. If you stay light footed, you will get stock power and torque. Meaning, less than 30% throttle input. If you are quick with your throttle input, go above that 30% threshold, or are basically aggressive with it, you will be in the custom power territory all the time. It just takes some getting used to.

Select A Tune is still a feature in previous model years (11-13). We didn't get rid of it 'just because'. The system changed and so did the controls on the 14+. The communication dynamics changed as well. And with the different trims offering different features, it just became more feasible to develop a dynamic calibration rather than keeping track of multiple operating system versions, finding an activator, and manipulating each one of them to incorporate select a tune.

I personally love the dynamic nature. If I drive like a grandpa, I get stock power and performance. Shifts like stock and all (auto tranny). If I drive like an 'asshat' then I get aggressive power. It just depends on how much throttle I use.

It just takes a little experimentation with throttle input to figure out the switching point between stock and performance. Once you get used to it, you can manage it better.

Well, looks like I know where my tax money is going this year...

Good. Buy it and report back, especially since you are a AWD also😉

I know it seems as if I'll never get this tune in, but winter refuses to yield and I'm not real keen on dropping it in when it is still in the single digits around here.... I hate winter. Car has been sitting since December, eagerly awaiting good weather.......

Thank you the explanation on how the tune operates!

Not a problem! Glad to answer any questions you guys may have. As an update, I did check with the engineering team and they said that if there was enough interest to bring Select-A-Tune to the 14+ model, then they would put more R&D into the possibility.

As it stands, everyone with an LTG Regal loves the programming as is. No need to turn it on or off or worry about what driving mode you are in. It's all based on throttle input 🙂

Can someone explain to me why one would only want the enhanced tune features at higher throttle inputs? For me, the ideal of a tune would be the fatter torque curve, particularly at lower rpms, more than the ultimate gains in speed. I would think such a tune would enhance the driveability and enjoyment to drive even around town and in normal commuting, and not just when driving aggressively.

do you have the tune?
go get it and be the judge of it after u have it

Trifecta has done numerous revisions on this tune .. its perfected .. depending on gearing .. if your doing normal commuting you have the tune at the tip of the gas pedal ..

get the tune than tell us your review

I used to have Select A Tune but you dont need it .. you will NEVER use it .. at first when you get the tune your a little nervous about dealer visits or being able to hide the tune but the ONLY time you will ever use it is when u are driving and want to see if you personally notice a difference

Mayor, are you currently running trifecta, do you switch to ipf ever? did you put the big turbo in with any other supporting mods like injectors or fuel lobe, or are you simply running tune + intake\downpipe + zfr? it would be great to know if the zfr is really a bolt on that requires no other mods. If that's the case I may do it in the future, maybe along with an intercooler. Btw, did you end up buying a catted or catless downpipe? Would be great to see some vids of pulls.

the ZFR is really a bolt on you will however need a tune for it because you will get the underboost CEL which cuts full boost driving only on the 2.0 alone

unless your like Kranz running maximum potential HP thats also running on E85 you dont need to upgrade fuel lobes or injectors.. im sure others will beg to differ but im not driving heavy from the moment i turn the car on until i turn it off and im not running 400whp
my GS is catless DP , zfr , intake and tune along with Trifectas AF40 tune
and im on IPF tune its so cold in NJ that there is no need to switch back right now
i want the intercooler for the GS but haven't stepped up to buying it yet
but you can definitely run the zfr just make sure its tuned for stable psi and no underboost

Thanks for the response, Mayor. I will look into this. Wont jump on it for some more time, I'm imagining labor for the turbo swap is in the $500+ range?

500!?!?
SJR - I paid 2 thousand dollars in labor I had to overnight.a.couple parts there
I'm usually quick on responses I get notifications for everything in the forum and don't know how.to turn it off lol

This is still a feature. The power is on tap whenever you need it. Lets say you have another tune (not TRIFECTA), and you are driving normal around town, you still never get into that higher TQ curve unless you ask more of the engine, by pressing the throttle a little harder/further. It's all load-based and what you are currently demanding of the vehicle.

The only way you are going to enjoy the higher TQ on ANY calibration, is if you ask more of the engine, by pressing the throttle more aggressively.

Mayor,
Thanks for the input! Much appreciated. Glad to see your Regal is alive and well 🙂

Thanks WOT

come spring ill get in touch with Trifecta but everything has been great couple of CELs but haven't had any issues

Does the tune have rev matching on downshifts?

*UPDATE* Happy to report that today was a good day to put in the trifecta tune! I was having issues in the past with the laptop I was using and they suggested I use another computer, so I did and the install was problem free! I'll be posting my experiences with it in coming days. Thanks again to trifecta for the support!
................................................................................................................................................

Took it out Saturday night on about a 60 mile round trip that included county, state and interstate roadways. The very first impression I would say is..... WOW It's alive! The pedal has what I would compare as an on/off point almost like a switch, which I'll get used to in time (I already have pretty much). I was behind a VERY slow individual until the road widened into four lanes at a red light. I got to the right and gave it a goose to get past him and it laid out a pretty good wheel chirp soon as it hit the 30% point. I then merged onto an expressway and gave it the juice and was close to 100 before I even realized it! Normal driving was just as good as stock and the instantaneous mileage seemed about the same. haven't done enough driving for a good average yet.

So far, I think this is a good tune, and when the weather is right maybe we'll get some 1/4 mile numbers!
