will this wreck my transmission

I drove my moms 97' Buick LeSabre today and I made the following mistake.

I was driving in a parking lot and I stopped very quickly to back up, I must have not let the car stop all the way because the car jolted when I shifted into reverse. I backed up quickly, stopped for a sec, shifted into drive and didn't give the car a chance to shift into gear. The car made a "bang!" Jumped forward and I heard a funny buzzing noise, while it was making that noise, the brake pedal stuck in partway and the pedal was vibrating. It only lasted about a second and then everything seemed normal and it drove home just fine.

Do I need to be prepared for soon to come transmission problems or should it be OK as long as I don't make that mistake again?

brake pedal may have stuck in as the trac control was active (hence the buzzing) just be more careful when shifting from r to d or from d to p. let it stop completly before doing this.

edit:the trac control uses timing retarding and brakes to give the right amount of power and stop the differential from giving power to the wheel that has less traction

There was probably already something wrong. Unless you switch very quickly and abruptly, the torque converter should absorb very low speed transitions. Not that you want to make a habit of it.

Stop beating on your Moms car and go tell her what you did.

If it drove OK after the incident, probably nothing destroyed. However, you may well have shaved a few thousand miles of the remaining life of the tranny.

If it will make you feel better, you might want to check the tranny fluid level and condition, and see if any hidden OBDII codes have been set, and apologize to your mom.

My observation (from personal experience) is that every young/new driver needs to have one accident/incident to get their attention to the risk and consequences of mistakes while driving - let this be yours.
