ZZP Intake

Perhaps it'd be worthwhile to see what kind of gains are to be made by the removal of the stock box. I know on the turbo subaru's CAI,s can mess with the MAF, and have negative consequences, and the stock air box and an aftermarket panel filter will handle like 350 whp.

After finally getting a bracket that fits, I tried installing the intake again only to run into more problems. This intake has such poor R&D, terrible installation, nothing lines up, fits right or proper. I've been having to add washers on bolts that are too long and now I will have to make a new bracket for the support of the intake. Not what you'd expect for a $325 intake on a $35k car from a reputable company like ZZP. Anyone interested in this intake, do NOT waste your money.

Very unfortunate.... Sorry to hear of all your troubles. What has ZZP's response been?

Man that sucks! One would think it would be a simple bolt on. Hopefully zzp makes right by helping you out or refunding your money.

Well they made the new bracket for me, took a week to get here though. I emailed them today stating the problems and that they need more R&D time on this intake. I'm just so tired of trying to get this intake on. If it takes another new bracket, it'll be another week before I get it on. We'll see how it goes tomorrow, see if I can't fab up something to get this intake to fit. I'm not bashing ZZP, the regal changed production halfway thru 2011, I just think they rushed this intake release and didn't test it on all the vehicles. They've been helpful and respond quickly to my issues, just feel like it shouldn't happen with this. I'll post back results tomorrow.

Sorry you are going through this. I almost get the impression that they don't have a Regal to work with. Here's a suggestion on the bolts. I'd take the bolts they sent you to Lowes and match them. Then buy shorter ones. Let them know what size it actually takes and give them some serious feedback on your install and what needs to be done to remedy it. Maybe you could get them to refund you half of your money and you'd be helping in the R&D. Just a thought.

They don't have a regal to work with, they wanted to borrow mine for fabbing up a better intercooler system. If I wasn't to far away, I would have considered it, but now I won't let them touch my car. I have to put the stock intake back on, very frustrating. I've wasted hours on this intake, it just doesn't fit, they rushed the design to be the "first on the market" hence the high price and it shows, I plan on getting every penny back for it. Such a shame, I was, along with others, eagerly awaiting the install of the intake and hearing the turbo more. Sorry for those looking forward to my results, I wish I could have provided better results. Hopefully another company comes up after ZZP to clean up their mess and make an intake that fits.

You are welcome.

Ugh, you guys know your stock box pulls nice cold fresh air from in the fender wall right?

All these cone filters will be sucking hot engine compartment air into the intake.

Does the intake air temp matter much on an intercooled turbo? I was just wondering since turbos heat stuff up so much and since it goes through the intercooler after...

Still matters.

Some OEM air boxes have so many baffles and restrictions that upgrading to an aftermarket intake can be beneficial. The Regal's air box after inspecting, I find it to be appropriate for the application. I figure once I drop the K&N panel filter in, it'll be fine.

And as Dtana stated, short ram air intakes suck in hot air. On my Suzuki Sidekick, I custom made a short ram intake that still utilized the MAF sensor and IAT sensor and had no problems, but the cone filter was right next to hole in the fender where fresh air came in to the stock box. I'd say keep the stock intake until someone actually makes an intake that has been properly developed with proven numbers.

I work at Dan Tobin. Did you buy your Regal there? Just saw that you had posted about us regarding the Veranos. I'm the new car manager there. I'd love to see your car if you have this intake in. I'm about to pull the trigger on a GS or a turbo and this will be one of the first things I get for it assuming I get a good review from somebody who has it.

Read the whole thread, the thing sucks. Well, maybe not literally...

It might be better to say "this thing blows."

Having purchased a lot of parts from ZZP for my 1998 GTP way back when, I have a feeling they will get this right with time and once they have a vehicle in their shop for a few days.

ZZP is great! All of my aftermarket parts are from them. I'm running mid 13's on drag radials in my GTP with a modest build. I have faith that they will work the bugs out; however, they should've waited a bit longer to get the fitment right. There are a lot of new customers now and you really need to build confidence.

No, didn't get my Regal from Tobin but all my service is done there. I work with Dennis Thompson who is a great guy. I wouldn't get this intake as of yet b/c of all the issues that have been reported.

If ZZP was so great, they should have done the right R&D before releasing a product. Being first to market with an intake that doesn't fit makes me very wary of buying anything from them.
