ZZP Intake

I have it.
The good: the Intake helps the lag you feel in first gear.
The bad: unless you plan on adding the trifecta tune and a aftermarket mass air flow sensor The Zzp intake will cause rough idling and sometimes cut the car off.

Get the GMPP INTAKE it looks better and it specifically designed for the regal without any additions needed completely plug and play....plus with the trifecta tune 80 to 100whp

I never had a rough Idle/ car shutting off when i had only the intake without a tune ad i drove it for a few months like that without any issues.

I would like to get rid of my ZZP intake for the K&N i think it looks better and i like the shield keeping the Filter element enclosed and away from the extra heat.
 
What's the consensus on the better intake, zzp or K+N? I'm looking into picking one of these up. This thread details some poor installation experiences with ZZP - is that still the case?

I was more inclined to get the K+N because of this but then I read this review of it on amazon "The intake iis made of two pipes welded together. One of the pipes in manufacturing apparently is inserted into the other pipe and then it was welded on the outside. This is terrible as there is about 2 inches of the smaller pipe on the inside of the other and it actually creates an obstruction instead of having smooth airflow which is one of the benefits of a high flow intake."

So, what do you guys recommend here? Thanks

BNR now advertises up to 120whp peak gains on the Turbo model with just the tune alone, and stock intake, so Trifecta's +100whp peak with the GMPP intake doesn't look so great anymore. The video on Trifecta's FB account with the GMPP intake shows about +12 whp and +7wtq gains between their tuning without the intake, and then after install and re-tune. I'd expect that's in line with gains you'd get with the ZZP or K&N intakes tuned as well.

The GMPP intake looks beautiful, but I don't think it'll perform significantly different than the other options out there. The "true cold air" nature of it might net another 1-2 whp over the other options, so I guess you have to decide if that's worth the added cost.

The GMPP is my pick as well but I haven't found it on sale without being bundled with the tune, making it quite pricey

Im so torn between intakes and tunes right now!! Originally thought I would og with the obvious choice (for me) due to car still being under factory bumper-to-bumper warranty (and already having the turbo being replaced by dealership due to the infamous error code -P0299) with the GMPP intake and tune. I've inquired about these parts and tune with the service rep at my dealership, and even after giving him the part #'s, then the websites to actually show the parts and information regarding needing a GM Tech to call in to have the tune completed, and they still act as if this doesnt exist. And they finally told me "they dont do these kinds of things!". I say BS!! If I could speak to a Tech myself and happily employ him for his time ane efforts to do this install and tune, I couldn't imagine he/her turning me down?!
So, first, who recommends what CAI and why?!
And, what a re your preferences for tune and parts?

Another question I cannot seem to find a solid answer to is, IF/WHEN I buy the new CAI, do I need to purchase an A/M (updated) MAF sensor? That thing costs another 2-300$ AFTER the intake!!

If my 2013 Regal GS wasnt still under the factory warranty AND the additional bumper-to-bumper coverage (12 months/12K miles whichever first) then I wouldn't even hesitate on the purchase of the CAI, tune, down pipe and possibly exhaust. But Im so torn, especially now having to battle with the dealership over replacing the OEM turbo due to current "under-boost" issues.

Im so very happy to have this forum to go to for insight and information. This isnt the most widely produced vehicle and parts/information and upgrades are harder to come by than my previous vehicle of 2007 Subaru Legacy. There was a plethora of info.parts, mods for that vehicle from day 1.
Thank you all for your time and assistance in helping a new member and Buick owner. Love, LOVE the var BTW. Im just ready to have the turbo working again and start tinkering with the power plant so I can enjoy it ore.
 
I went with the GMPP CAI and am very happy with it. It looks great and with the included tune was a nice performance boost. I bought it online and did the hardware installation myself, then took it to the local dealer for them to do the tune -- they were able to take care of it with no problems. I may go ahead and get a BNF tune later, but I'm not in a hurry. I can't speak for any of the other CAIs, but this one did not require a new MAF sensor.

I did a lot of research on the intakes available for our cars, and the GMPP and K&N are by far the best.

The K&N retains the factory MAF sensor housing, so the tune parameters stay pretty well in check. Nice feature for sure, and one of the main reasons I purchased it.

I went with what i did at the time because thats what was available, If i were to do it again i would go BNR Tune and K&N Intake. I like the looks of the K&N Better and i like the shield idea it comes with. Also i dont know about anyone elses but the ZZP intake came with a Hold in the Bottom for what im assuming was for use in a way i didn't need or have and it came with nothing to plug the hole so i had to plug it myself.
