2011 Lacrosse Trunk Mysteriously Opens

Perhaps the long term solution for the manufacturers is to put a sliding "lock" switch on the fob similar to what an Ipod has to preven accidental button activation while in a pocket or bag.

my 2012 truck was found opened twice in my driveway.?????????

NOW>>>Not saying this is the correct way, but it worked for us.

I took a small sewing needle and careful dipped it in super glue and applied super glue around the Key FOB being VERY careful to only outline the truck button. let is sit for a few hours....worked for me......for what it is worth....
Only applied to my wife fob since it' always finds it way in the very bottom of the purse she carries around with all the other items ladies carry with them....

Do you guys think it's a fob or car problem? Do both of your fobs cause this? If it's a fob problem you could try buying some new ones. I have 3 and my trunk has yet to open on its own. Maybe they work better now? Just a thought.

FWIW my buttons are quite firm to press.

Well I went to get in the car this morning and once again trunk was open this time the keys were in the house and had not been in my pockets.
I spoke with the service department and they ran a computer search and saw where this has been a problem for some owners.
GM contributes the problem to possible moisture causing corrosion at the switch causing the signal to be weak or a faulty trunk release switch.
When it happens again I will take it in and let them have a look.

Dealership claims to have solved the problem.
I offer this from my service papers for whatever it may be worth (only time will tell):

"Check reference P10185C. Checked for DIC's. None. Inspected trunk release harness switch harness. Corrison present." Corrison on a 2011???

"Per P10185C, replaced trunk release switch. Tested operation."
Would you please double check the reference code on your paperwork. "P" codes refer to powertrain issues, I believe. It should be a body issue reference code beginning with the letter "B." Even so, my dealership was unable to locate the reference and refused to investigate further without a trouble code being set or their ability to duplicate the problem.

Thank you for your inputs.

Purposely stayed away from this string as 10 pages more than covers it but will reiterate some things we know:

If the trunk opens while the vehicle is UNLOCKED, it could be either the manual trunk switch or un-intended key fob activation.

If the trunk opens and you KNOW the vehicle was LOCKED it can only be un-intended key fob operation......nothing else has been found to cause trunk opening on a locked vehicle.

Mine states PI# 0185A/NHTSA ID# 10035986 and also PI# 0185B

Most of the trouble is in the key fob design.

I have had my trunk open on it's own while parked and locked when the fob(s) was in a drawer inside the house on more than one occasion. An electronic module that controls the trunk release was replaced and it has not happened again.

My 2011 LaCrosse trunk has opened on several occasions. This past week we were on the other side of town and both remotes were with me. My neighbor called on my cell phone and told us our trunk was open and it was raining. Until now I thought we were hitting the remote by mistake. Now know that is not the case and also do not think the remote range would reach for many miles, since we were several miles from home.

Sounds like a new module may do the trick.

should state: PI0185C

Did you bring this occurrence to the attention of your local dealer? Please keep me posted and feel free to contact me if you need more assistance. Thank you.

I just took my car in this morning for the mysterious opening of the trunk. They replaced the touch pad release switch and reprogramed body control module.

I knew my trunk was opening from having something else in my pocket with my FOB, so I did what Bear442 suggested and added a touch of crazy glue to the edge of just the trunk button. It doesn't open unexpectedly anymore so I no longer have a wet trunk when I leave the house, or missing belongings when I wake up at motels. Easy enough fix for me since I don't really need to remotely open my trunk anyways (especially unintentionally 🙂

Knew it was bound to happen. My &*^& fob unlocked the door while I was at a wedding shower at an apartment complex. Some stole a cooler from the wide open trunk. Adding insult to injury, it was raining and my trunk was drenched.

Just imagine the other things that can happen if the trunk can't be secured. What else could be stolen - perhaps a laptop, golf clubs, Christmas presents. Worse yet, the trunk in the Lacrosse is huge. Someone could see the trunk open, climb inside and close the trunk. Once you have driven home (with the stow away hiding in the trunk) and your car safely in your garage, the stow away could open the trunk and rob you or worse rape your wife and daughter. By the way, this is more than a hypothetical event. Someone has hidden is an unsecured trunk and done just what I described.

GM has to change the way the trunk opens with the fob and they have to recall their cars that have this problem to load the necessary firmware update. It is shameful and irresponsible to be aware of such a safety and security risk and not do anything about it, especially when the correction is a simple software modification. These changes won't require any parts to be replaced or updated, just a little time to download a new control software version into the car's control computer.

I am curious just how you would propose to modify the software to prevent the trunk lid from opening accidently without preventing opening when desired. A double press of the trunk release button? Three? A five second hold?

Doesn't this seem like a verified fix? I'd take it in and ask them to give it a shot.

The problem is that GM doesn't care about this.
