I discovered my wife's 2013 Buick Encore with 25k miles was leaking oil a few weeks ago. I meant to check it out sooner, but finally crawled under to investigate. I'm glad I did because the engine was down an entire quart of oil! I discovered there were 3 distinct drip points, but no distinct trail leading to those 3 points. The 3 points of dripping were the oil drain plug, I assume the low oil sensor port and the spring tensioner...I think for the alternator...I can't recall now. There was oil all over the oil pan, mostly on the right side of the engine and as high the spring tensioner and just below the turbo intake port. I didn't see any signs of oil at the turbo oil inlet or valve cover...2 areas normally found in the Cruze scene.

I took it in because I could not determine where the leak was actually coming from and neither could the dealership. They think it's possibly coming from the valve cover gasket. I think it's coming from the the oil pain "gasket". They cleaned it all up and added a dye to the oil and will black light the area when they install the seat belt pretensioners in a couple weeks for the recall. I will update this thread when I get an answer.

Hi mjspiess,

Thank you for reaching out! I apologize for the mysterious oil leak you’re experiencing with your wife’s Encore. I’m happy to hear you were able to take it in to the dealership for service, it sounds like they have a great plan! Please let me know if there’s anything I can do to help. I will be checking back in for your update!

Have a great weekend,

I received a notice in the mail in February regarding GM recall 14171.
"General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2013 model year Buick Encore vehicles."
"Your vehicle may have a condition in which the front outboard lap belt pretensioner cables will retract upon deployment to pull in seat belt webbing, as intended, but may not lock in that position, allowing the cable and the retracted webbing to return to their original positions under occupant loading."

There were 2 other recalls they checked on as well.
14501: Park Brake Cable (Mine passed inspection)
14340: Incomplete weld on Seat Hook (Mine passed inspection)

Great info! Thanks for the recall numbers. I'll have to check my VIN number to see if I need them done.

Hey TheAirmain... which site do you use to verify these recall numbers?

From what I can see from the "recalls" they have nothing to do with an oil leak, which was the original post & question.

I think it's coming from the the oil pain "gasket".

I forgot to update this thread, but I was right. The leak was coming from the oil pan "gasket". They said they had never had one leak around the oil pan and would need it over night, so they lent us a GMC Terrain while they repaired it. No charge for the repair since it only has 25k miles. Although, they forgot to reset the oil life indicator after the fresh oil change. So far so good. No more leaking.
