Still Finding New Things

Pushing and holding the start button for 5 - 10 sec puts into "service mode".

Ok. I admit it. I’M AN IDIOT.

Works exactly as you said. (I won’t tell you what I did or did not do because I’m either an idiot, or am having a senior Moment). Either way, I can now get it out of Park if car won’t start.

Thanks again for being so patient with me, the “Village Idiot”.

One thing I noticed, which I think is an oversight, is when using the windshield washers the wipers wipe the glass before the washer fluid is actually sprayed, which actually makes the windshield clarity worse if bug splatter is involved and it isn't raining. It isn't good for the wiper blade rubber pieces either.

Ditto.

Another discovery.

When getting out of car, if you open Hatch with button in driver door, you can’t lock car with lock button in driver door.

You have to FIRST lock car with driver door button and then touch hatch button in driver door to open hatch.

Let's hope it is not BOTH! 🙂
Glad we could help.

Unless someone knows of a way to test this.... Next person to have their fuel door stuck closed, can you please try the above proceedure to see if putting car in "service mode" will allow you open the door in an emergency?

It’s already been reported that you still won’t be able to open the fuel door, however now that I know how to get it in Service Mode and out of Park, I will try it myself tomorrow.

Found that while backing up in the rain and your front windshield wipers are on, your rear wiper will automatically turn on to give you a clear picture out the back window.

You can turn that feature on or off in your Settings menu.

Turned mine off as I never use the rear wiper. If I ever want it, I switch it on from the wiper stalk.

I don't think anyone has mentioned, but when you flash your high beams (pull back on stick), they just come on immediately, but if you turn them on (push lever), they emerge from the middle of the car outwards.

(I do have the Driver Confidence 1 package of that makes a difference)

When you tap the turn signal stalk, i.e., push it down gently then release it, the turn signal flashes 3 times. Great for lane changes. 2019 Essence S & S with DC 1 & 2.

Just got my sport red TourX essence last week, so still learning loads of stuff but found out and confirmed FLAC music files can be played from a USB flash drive. I have one with ~100 GB of music on it, so will be nice for long drives.

I think every GM car for the last 15 years or more has done that 🙂
And my '13 VW allowed me to choose 3, 4, or 5 flashes in the vehicle settings menu.

I recently found out the 'mic' button also allows voice commands, including searching for genres/artists/albums.

Not sure if it was mentioned before, but if you hold the accelerator to the floor while pressing the start button, it will crank over but not start. As soon as you let go of the accelerator pedal then it will start. This is useful for priming the engine after changing the oil.

I thought it was to clear a flooded engine.

I thought it was to clear a flooded engine.

I'm pretty sure that's the main reason for the programming (and it's probably because that's the way you'd clear a flooded carbureted engine, so it was a natural thing for people to try on a new fangled flooded FI engine).

here's my discovery for today - forgive me if this is common knowledge.

I was looking into the sub/spare tire area more closely as I bought a spare off eb** - anyway, I gave a tug towards myself on the folding floor and after a tug or two the whole floor (between the rails) slid out.. there were some carpet tabs that had come free where the floor meets the rear seats, these were easily tucked back in. The whole center part of the rear floor slides out in one piece (Essence trim) I was just surprised!
