Disable Automatic Stop/Start

2019 tourx, bought new last week for wifey.


Just ordered range technology from autoanything.com for 144$ shipped.
Cheapest i could find it. They also have weathertech window vents.

Now all i have to find for my oldman's car is some stick on portholes, curb feelers and anti-static straps, lol. (I'm 65, the older folks will know what i mean)

Just ordered a BLUE Range Technology device off Amazon. They are $160 for the green/yellow LED, $170 for Blue. Can't wait as Auto Stop/Start is very annoying(and dangerous) in rush hour traffic.

FWIW, my wifes car is a 2009 Ford escape hybrid. It is the 3rd hybrid we've had and I do not mind the engine shutoff in the hybrids. The electric motor provides an instant response of torque(power) if you need a quick launch from a stoplight or left turn. This gives the gas engine at least a second to turn on with no delay in forward power. The GM system is just awful and it take that split second to fire up the engine to go anywhere--hence why I strongly feel the start stop in the TourX is unsafe.

Very happy to get the stop-start gone(can't you tell?)

The Range Technology OBD plug-in is available on Amazon for $160, and in a variety of light colors that it softly projects from the OBD plug-in location under the left side of the dash. It works GREAT!

I found if you you use light pressure on brake pedal at stop ,my car will continue to run.
It was more by chance since it really does not bother me unless the AC is running and the car is still cooling down.

Since it has cooled down dramatically here in Michigan recently (high's in the 40's and 50's), the stop/start has really scaled back. Even with the car at operating temperature, it does not activate. Previously, I had just been sliding the stick over to manual when just about to stop for a light, to prevent shut down.

Interesting I was sitting next to another Buick at a light last week, light changed, and I could hear the Buick start up as they left the light. Mine was just still running. I wonder if I have an issue? Oh well, no news is good news.

Reason I ask is I have a range technology ASS device and would like to keep it plugged in during work week. I'll probably remove on Fridays..but I'm kinda groggy when I leave for work M-F and it would be a pain for me to install it every morning. Any problems leaving it plugged in...even if it did still use a trickle of power..anyone leave theirs plugged in? Any problems?

I've never had an issue leaving it plugged in even for a couple of days in a row when car isn't being used. I've never tried leaving it plugged in for car sitting longer than that.

Good to know..thanks. I will probably unplug if I am not actively driving it, just wanted to make sure it was safe overnight for the next mornings commute.

I had it plugged in over the weekend- no problem, but just dropped the car at the airport for several days- unplugged it just in case...
They do recommend it to unplug it when car is not being used for a while.

I called RT the other day about this issue as my wife's car is used infrequently. Amy tod me that this issue has been corrected in later software versions and that they are using up supply of older boxes that have the warning on them. Will see.

Not sure why but I either got a bad unit or something.

ASS is a pain in the ass.. love the module hidden, plus no wear on OBD port and no battery drain.

Same thing happened to me..."Engine power reduced" and loss of power.

Bottom Line-- if you bought off Amazon or eBay those items are bootlegged, used, refurbished, unauthorized etc. according to the mfr. (They do not sell on Amazon). So very likely the version may be a defective unit, possibly with old software. I would suggest a return and go to range technology and try official device off their website.

Ouch, have you sent an email to RT ? Maybe you did get a defective module?

I bought directly from RangeTechnology and thus far (over 3,000 miles driven - 2019 Regal Sportback) I have not had that issue. Hopefully your issue is just a defective device, in which case I think they said they do replace at no charge.

Glad I have had no problems with my ASS defeat module.
The OBD connected unit is more distracting, can drain battery, and could be stolen easily.

I've had both. The underhood module is going back for a refund (still within 90 days). If you like to use the remote start feature, which I do, then the The OBD 2 plug is a better solution - it doesn't interfere with that. If you don't care about that then save the $50 bucks and get the underhood module.
I'm about as worried about the OBD2 module being stolen as I am about someone stealing the wheels or the owners manual out of the glove box, meaning not at all. I don't find it distracting, if you are talking about the light, that was easily fixed with black electrical tape.
