Please let us know if "GM - INFO 3 MAP UPDATE - V.2022" works for us
Honestly, partly because ours is off the road for winter, i may not be able to fully verify right away.

Also, as per this post, i'm still interested in trying to clone a virgin Nav card for back-up. I'd have to install Linux or Android somewhere and learn how to access the files/partitions/whatever that Windows can't see that are part of the Android-based formatting process our cars do to VIN-lock these cards.
That's not going to happen right away; just like the GS steering wheel, license plate relocation bracket & antenna replacement (all of which i've aquired the parts for) i hope to get done before ~ April when we put it back on the road. If i had a big enough heated storage location to work in i could get more done in convenient intervals, but i'm not going to sit outside tearing things apart in the middle of winter here in what free time i have between working/driving full-time . . .blah blah blah . . ., so 🤪

If I'm not mistaken, last year I shared the files off my USB updates with another member on this forum and the only thing they did was update the VIN in one of the text files, copied to a USB and was able to install the update.
I realize its a different version, but there has to be a geek out here that can help you out.

USB updates to infotainment software updates are a different thing.
The deal with the SD card map data is the car's Android system writes (formats/initializes) the card in some way that involves more than a text file. I made Windows full sector images of the virgin 84530371 card & the card after it was installed, and compared them, swapped files, etc. - but there's some data written to the card i can't even access via Windows (e.g. the CID info) involved.
Unless i get a Linux or Android based image of the virgin card before installing it, i'll never get back to knowing what the original data on the card was 😒
That also involves reading the card directly with SD card reader hardware (not USB adapter) on a system running Linux or Android.

... was hoping someone just tried to move the map data and keep the VIN files.
I can tell you this, because i did it - you can copy the original files that Windows can read, delete them from the VIN-locked card and copy them back to the card and that works, but doesn't really get us anywhere. I tried copying that data from a 84530371 card to a VIN-locked 84364481, just to see if the updates were transferable, but that didn't work. I then replaced the original files back to the 84364481 card and it worked as it always had, but i was just lucky. The VIN-specific data that the car's system wrote to the card stayed recognized by the vehicle.

This is not to suggest that i have a handle on how any of this actually works. I haven't used Linux or Android at all and don't really have the time or resources to go down that rabbit hole right now.

😵

I ordered mine before the new year and got the $99 price. I'll be installing the update this week. I'll let you know how it goes.
I guess I’ll be the Guinea pig or sacrificial lamb….I ordered update on Monday for the $99.99 but it won’t ship for a week or two.
Ours just came & i'm curious if the packaging for both of yours looks like this NaviUpgd.webp
..because our previous order for 84530371 (from GM Discounted Parts) came in a GM bag.

The SD came in that case but also an outer jewel box case with instructions. Your card looks just like my new card which is in my car now. (my old card is in the case now in the photo).

That big picture with the 8 digit part number is helpful.

Just for reference, the 84530371 card we got from GM Discounted Parts in 2021, and have been using since, is labeled slightly differently than the one that came with your (& Chefjpd's ) vehicles.

Looks like replacement cards, even in GM wrapping, are labeled with the "not for 2nd vehicle" image, while the ones originally installed in the vehicle omit that labeling - not sure how that speaks to the source, or if it matters.

I bought my update from the “authorized” source and it had the 2 cars on it. The original didn’t. I wouldn’t read much into that.

If the new card hasn’t been initialized in a car previously then it is supposed to work. Have you swapped out the cards yet to see? You’ll know in a couple of minutes if it works or not.

I'm still hoping to get a non-Windows true clone of the virgin card before it's "initialized", so i'm not in a rush to install it.
All things considered i'm pretty confident it'll work as expected, as you describe, when i eventually either successfully make a copy
or give up on that endeavor.

There are a several free downloadable software options to fully clone the SD car, not just copy visible files, with Windows. It can also be natively done on Linux or even with a Mac. You could try one of those software options, clone it and see if the cloned SD card initializes or not.

Windows won't let you see all data on the card, despite what those software authors would like you to believe. E.g.; try reading the CID of an SD card in windows. I have saved what a couple different Windows based softwares refer to as a "complete physical sector clone" of a couple of these cards & compared pre vs. post initialization - the data the system writes to the cards is not read, so not saved to the image.
You can't even clone an initialized card as a back up that will only work in one vehicle. Your car's Android system is looking for data that Windows can't see & therefore won't duplicate.

Linux or Android is our hope, but you also need the right hardware, as well, to read the card directly. This is what i've read , anyways, looking into this.

And, full disclosure; i'm not trying to duplicate & sell copies - i just want to have a back up of the card i'll be using, because media can be unreliable over time.

I used to use Linux and Windows in a dual boot configuration for many years. I was able to burn ISO images of bootable Linux DVD images from Windows OS despite Windows itself could not see all that was burned after it was done- but I never tried it with an SD card. Anyway Linux is free to download and install, like Open Suse and others. If you have an old pc laying around it's an easy install or the Linux install will setup a dual boot on existing Windows machine and repartition as needed, GUI and menu interface, not command line stuff - easy to do, a little harder to undo. It just takes time.

As to having a backup I would say it's not a bad idea, but in my case the original card is about 4 years old now and I didn't have any issues. I hope I won't go 4 years again without another update, even better would be if one of these lower cost alternatives for the yearly or so updates is able to be used.

I shall try to use Disk Utility on my Mac once the SD card is delivered to see if I can clone an ISO image.

BackBox Linux is designed around security and forensics. So it can be booted from a USB and comes with tools to image a SD card or other storage. When you want to be absolutely sure you capture what's there without disturbing it, use the tools the pros use. No need to disturb your personal setup.

Mine worked without a hitch. Shot in the dark but Before you give up make sure the little “write protect” switch in the card is in the position the card can be written to.
