Disable Automatic Stop/Start

Amazon is selling below start/stop disabler for $20.99 and it works!

I have a 2018 (red needle) and that requires you to order "big plug". Apparently, if you have a 2019 or later you need to buy the "small plug".

(I wonder if a white needle (late 2018's) made the switch to the small plug)

Honestly, I got used to start/stop kicking in... but WOW...I don't miss it one bit!

I see we were in the same wave here. I purchased a different brand but yes I am so pleased with results so far. My greatest concern was the remote starting not working but like I posted above everything is working just fine. For the price it can't be beat. I only complaint is that I should have looked into purchasing one of these sooner LOL

Warranty long gone for the majority... Decided to go with the trifecta tune. Have to say I love it. The cruise control button basically is a sport (cruise disabled/off) or Stock/Normal (cruise ready) button. Really the best money I've spent on this car so far.
With Trifecta tune I undertand the sport and normal mode change but does auto start stop work when cruise is engaged or is it disabled all the time once the tune is installed?

With the Trifecta tune, when the cruise is engaged, the ASS works.
I got the $20 ASS disable as well so it is off all the time.

No issues at all with both.

I have also the Trifecta tune, which works as advertised. Amazon module is hit and miss according to reviews

Thanks. I have the Range Tech module which has worked for 3+ years . But just curios about the Trifecta and how it works with the start stop in case I ever pull trigger on it.

Ha! I love driving the vehicle even more now, too.

I caught myself yesterday releasing/pressing the brake at a stop sign to start the engine in preparation for when I could eventually merge into traffic. The things that I formed as habit to avoid the damn stop/start from activating will all need to be unlearned.

The only reason why I choose my brand product was that it had more reviews - otherwise it's probably the same unit.
______

For those who are the fence due to reviews saying it doesn't work -or- those who may feel that you must spend more money for something to work correctly:

1. My product instructions specifically address that if it is installed incorrectly, it will set off CEL and remote start may not work. If wrong installation is a factor.... I'd classify that as user error and not product incompatibility. It works on my early 2018. But yes, with all products, you will see negative reviews. (Therefore, I personally cannot vouch that it works for 2018.5 and newer models. But it should.)

2. It's only ~$20.

3. Have you ever checked out Amazon's return policy??? If item is shipped or sold by Amazon your risk is extremely low.

4. It's a 15-20 minute installation.

5. It's a no tools installation - but if you have sausage fingers like me....a small slotted screwdriver does help pop the center pin up on the front cover clips. The only other slight issue is figuring out how the existing connector actually unclips... That added about a minute because access is a little tight (and again, I have sausage fingers)

6. The installation is completely reversible. (If you choose this route... see points 2,3,4,5 above).

7. Did I mention it's $20??

Trifecta tune will be in my future after my extended warranty expires. But until that glorious day happens... I no longer have auto stop/start. Woo-hoooo!!!

That looks very similar to the Axxess start/stop disable module that hooks into the hood pin switch. I remember it came with two plugs, one for the 2018 year model and another for 2019+. It worked great when I had it installed.

I have the permanent Trifecta disable now.

" TRIFECTA Performance Auto Stop Mode (PASM):

Allows the driver to enable a performance-oriented auto-stop mode which, in most cases, inhibits auto-stop from enabling improved performance character, when desired (triggered by the cruise control arming button)

Modify driving profiles based on the cruise control enable setting (vehicles equipped with cruise control only)

Standard Mode: Cruise Control ON (armed) = Vehicle responds to pedal input and shift logic similar to the factory programming

TRIFECTA Sport Mode: Cruise Control OFF (disarmed) = Vehicle responds more aggressively to throttle input, shifts are optimized for performance.

About that Trifecta Sport Mode… it’s perfect for deliveries or rideshares. I think it makes me a better driver too!

They would need to do some testing and prove that there is some adverse effect on emissions...Also, start/stop engine function is still there, vehicle is not using it sometimes 🤣

I read the entire alert and didn’t see anything that applies to John Q. Public. They are targeting the car makers, manufacturers of aftermarket parts, tuners, and business owners with fleets.

So yes, it’s illegal for those engaged in commerce, but not necessarily for the average Joe. At least that’s my interpretation.

The EPA is rogue agency and needs to be dissolved.

eBay is also removing Range Technology products from its site.

Pretty amazing how hard the EPA goes after their own citizens, yet China and India get a free pass for ridiculous levels of pollution.

Now we have the added bonus of injecting trillions of tons of carbon into the earth’s subsurface geological formations, so we can pretend we’re ridding the world of carbon emissions. What could possibly go wrong?

Interesting...if this is considered to be part of emissions control, does that mean GM would have to warranty batteries for the same as the emissions warranty? Because we all know if the ASS stops you likely need a new battery.

It is EPA, by disabling ASS changes EPA Fuel Economy.

So estimate is based on the premium gasoline, are you obligated to put premium gasoline in it, to maintain EPA MPGs? Also trifecta guys are saying that mpgs would improve. I think without extensive testing no way EPA can tell you if you are violating anything by disabling start/stop.

eBay Banned Sale of Aftermarket Parts - That Defeat Emissions Systems (Including including handheld tuners)

I noticed a few months ago that BMW engine tunes started disappearing from prominent online websites.

“eBay is not currently allowing any tuners, regardless of functionality, in order to ensure compliance with our policy prohibiting defeat devices. Please do not relist.”

The intimidation is working. And yet the big shipping companies are burning trillions of gallons of shit fuel to feed tanker ships coming from far away places so we can all have $10 disposable Christmas trees. I suppose it's easier/more politically expedient to target a relatively small (but visible) market niche (in this case, "tuners") than go after car companies for foisting increasingly-unsustainable options such as mega-SUVs and rolling brickwalls with beds in the back.

Mention of that EPA Enforcement Alert is no coincidence. As the notice outlines in its opening paragraph, the EPA would likely pursue eBay for its role in the distribution of the hardware it deems illegal under the Clean Air Act. That would prove very costly for eBay, as every illegal part sold can carry financial penalties of $4,819 as of January 13, 2020.

I like the auto stop. No point idling the motor at red lights or when traffic isn't moving. But it could be a lot better if there was a two second delay before the motor cuts out. When you come to a stop sign or a right turn on a red (where permitted) and no one is around it's a stop and go situation. Its clunky when the motor cuts out and restarts. That acts as a deterrent to coming to a full stop and encourages rolling stops. It would be smoother and safer to keep the motor running for those stop and go situations. Has anybody heard of a time delay mod?
