Disable Automatic Stop/Start

If you bought a range tech device from any site other than Range Technology then you probably got a cheap knock-off which may or may not work correctly.

There have been several people on this thread and other stop-start threads on this forum that have mentioned that.
Auto Anything is an authorized seller. They've been mentioned here several times.

I think your problem is you have the wrong part number. RA006 is for a Ford

Yep. You are 100% right on that. As a matter of fact, nearly every GM car on AutoAnything was pointing to the Ford device. I had the most mind-numbing chat with AA support - who despite me sending links to the Range website showing her the problem - insisted that we wait to hear back from Range to confirm that AA was mistaken, before offering me a refund or exchange.

I spent 45 minutes on trying to resolve this with her. (I saved the chat for PayPal to dispute them if I need to.) Not their finest hour. I'm just going to order the correct one directly through Range, as rjw suggested.

So while AA sells the correct merchandise, they don't necessarily pair them to the correct vehicle manufacturers, and they definitely don't first try to solve issues they created themselves.

I wonder if this module was tested with US versions of Buick Regal "For Buick Regal 6th 2018 2019 2020 Car Automatic Stop-Start Engine System Off Closer Device Control Sensor OBD"

The way I understood reading the English version was that device is for cars that already have the button, it makes the car think the button has disabled the auto-start-stop. Maybe the China Buick?

Maybe is worth trying to test and to buy for $34.55?

As I recall from other cars I have driven with ASS...the button is deactivated once you shut the car off. I think this is to latch the button so on your next restart you don't have to press the button again.

That's was my interpretation of what it does.

I can vouch that this device works on my Holden ZB commodore 2018 in NZ which has the start/stop button. Plug in, set and forget

Update: I finally got the correct part # device of the Range disabler, directly from Range.

I had to submit a PayPal dispute against Auto Anything after they basically ghosted me on the return. The outcome of a return-refund is inevitable. It's really about them wanting to hold on to $ in their accounts for as long as they can. (I bring it up here basically to warn everyone... just be cautious with them.)

Plugged in the new device two days ago. Worked perfectly and consistently on probably 10 different trips.

Then came today, raining outside. Took the car out to run some errands. First stop at a light... engine shuts off. I had the car out a few different times today, and it rained on and off throughout. And the device worked and didn't work on and off throughout. And you know what I'm putting together?

The device doesn't prevent ASS when the wipers are on. I know for sure that the times it failed to work, the wipers were on. I *think* that it wasn't raining the times that the engine stayed on. It doesn't rain a whole lot here, but... the fact that it's having these "quirks" doesn't feel like a good recipe. So I reached out to Range to let them know.

I'm giving the Smart Stop Start device a shot, trying to order from a 3rd party authorized seller. Crossing my fingers that they'll be able to sneak that by and it'll ship to me here in CA. If I find out they can't, which I'm sure they'd mention it pretty quickly, I'll go the Trifecta ASS disable route.

That's really weird. I live in Florida and it rains a lot. My Range Tech has never not worked with regards to the wipers being on and auto start stop engaging.

Crazy .... has become normal.
Module still has my TourX thinking the hood is open.

It could be that it just randomly works, then doesn't, and the rain / wiper situation is coincidence. What I know for sure is that it doesn't work consistently.

Waiting to hear back from Range on return instructions for this GM device, and on the Ford one that Auto Anything has until April 1st to respond to PayPal before it defaults to a return approval in my favor. For now I have over $400 tied up in two devices that don't work.

The GOOD news is, I got shipping confirmation this morning from ZIC Motorsports for the Smart Stop Start Gen 2 module. *It's in "mailing label printed" status, but I'm optimistic.

I still have my Axxess Start/Stop Disable Module for sale if anyone is interested. I’ll let it go for $75.00 shipped. Installation takes about 30 minutes and it works flawlessly.

I have not read through this whole long thread, but I thought I'd mention that a month or so ago I purchased a 2018 Regal sportback AWD. I have never owned a vehicle with auto stop and start before. I really dislike this feature. And it is hardly "seamless" upon restarting. But without saying anymore about all that, a couple of weeks ago I ordered and then installed the Gen II engine ASS system.

It only took me about 10 minutes to install it and it seems to work fine. And no check engine light or anything weird. I love the way the engine now drops to a super smooth idle when stopping. Now, if I get behind a bunch of cars at the bank or fast food drive up, I can choose to manually turn the engine off to save gas, or not.

Looks like they are selling this?

Hi all! Just bought my Tourx and love it! The only thing is I want to disable the automatic stop/start. I saw this is available aftermarket. Would this void any warranty though?
My Buick Regal Tourx has the feature but then one day it just stopped doing it… don’t know if I have a problem or am I just lucky?

Update: Installed the SmartStartStop device, and it's been working flawlessly for days.

Range authorized the return / refund of their (correct model GM) device that, for whatever reason, would not function consistently.

About the incorrect Range device than AutoAnything sold me (a Ford part number, their mistake), that they weren't agreeing to let me return... PayPal refunded me. And get this: I don't need to send back the device, since for 10 days AutoAnything evidently just ignored PayPal.
