Disable Automatic Stop/Start

Actually, rangetechnology offers a device that plugs into the OBD port underneath the steering wheel. It's $190, which is a little more than the start/stop device, but it is much simpler to install - just plug it into the port. I have had mine for about a month now and I love it. And it does NOT affect remote start like the start/stop device does. Better yet, you can just unplug it before you go to the dealer to avoid any possible warranty issues.
I sent an e-mail to Range Technology, and they haven't done any testing for the 2.0 Turbo.
Here is their reply:
"We have not done formal testing on the 19 Buick Sportback 2.0 Turbo. I have one other customer say he bought it just to try it out and it seemed to work but since we have not done the formal testing for it we cannot guarantee that it would work. If you would like to try it, we do offer a 90-day return guarantee if it is purchased directly from us."

Disable Automatic Stop/Start

I have basically trained myself to bump the lever over to manual on any stops where I don't want it to shut off. I then have to bump it back (after 2 seconds).

I just shift to manual, then Immediately back to auto mode.

i just shift to Neutral or Manual mode on a red light so the car wont turn engine off ...

in N or M it wont turn engine off
👍

I guess their customer service reps need to decide which it is. When I emailed them back in 2019 they said it would work on the 2019 Regal Sportback (and it has for the past 3 years). The Sportback only comes with the 2.0 Turbo. I guess they could be correct both ways - "Yes, it will work on the Regal, BUT, we have not actually formally tested it"?

And No, I am not the customer that said they would buy it just to try it out - so I guess there are least 2 of us that have bought it then. 🙂

I'm also not that customer...lol. I bought the RT about 2 and half years ago. At that time it was listed on their website as being suitable for the Regal 2.0 engine and for some reason they later removed it. It's worked as described ever since I installed it.

Have you had any transmission troubles? I have had multiple tranny issues and am wondering if the device could cause an issue.

The reason I am saying that is because after leaving the dealer one day I re-installed the device while the car was running and the car would not accelerate properly after that. (previously I would only re-install before turning the car on). So I shut the car off, pulled the device out, then put it back in, started the car and all was back to normal again.

I see you have a TourX, mine is a Sportback.

I've never had any transmission issues, I'm at about 49K miles now. The FWD Sportback has a different transmission than the TourX and AWD Sportbacks so my experience may not be helpful.

Rereading your post...your experience may have something to do with installing the device while car was running. I remember somebody reported doing that and the car gave a message about reduced power but went back to normal after doing what you describe.

I guess he didn't mention this very recent customer, me, with the Regal Sportback 2.0T whose Range device didn't always work. I'd say the success rate was on average about 3 out of 4 drives. Turning the car off and back on again would cure it... but not a circumstance I wanted to live with.

The SmartStopStart is still working great. And Zic Motorsports shipped it to me without any questions about how golden my state is. (wink-wink)

Chevy-Buick-Cadillac-GMC Products

This is the one you want. Best 150.00 I have spent. If you can change a light bulb, you can install this.
I just got the SmartStopStart module last Friday, and installed it that night. They shipped it quickly by Priority Mail, and even included a 10mm wrench for the battery clamp! It seemed to crank a little longer the first time after the 8 hour wait period, but then started right up every time after that. It is very easy to install, and will be very easy to remove when I take it in for service. Couldn't be more pleased!

Disable Automatic Stop/Start

Browsing this thread... I feel like the one time auto-start/stop would be beneficial is when the car is in park lol.
I have been using the MyBuick app function to remote start my vehicle... I remember in the past that anything in the OBD II ports would cause the apps not to function correctly... Has the RANGE worked with that?
Does remote start from the app continue to work with the hood latch module style linked to earlier in the thread? (Gen II Engine Stop Start or Auto Stop (ESS) Override for Buick Regal 2018 - 2020).

There are times when it beneficial, but in times of rapid succession auto start/stop its pretty annoying, especially parking... stop---park/start---off unless you time the shift to park just right but I'm sure the parking pawl likes that.

I like the idea of the trifecta tune having two modes, cruise-on start/stop works, but they only offer that in the pricey packages, not the disable package.

I was using the Axxess AXSSO-GM start/stop override module before I got Trifecta and it worked fine with the Buick app. The Axxess module hooks into the hood pin switch.

I still have it and it’s for sale if you’re interested.

I've had the Range Tech module installed for about 3 years. The remote start in the Buick App works as designed.

Warranty long gone for the majority... Decided to go with the trifecta tune. Have to say I love it. The cruise control button basically is a sport (cruise disabled/off) or Stock/Normal (cruise ready) button. Really the best money I've spent on this car so far.

I totally agree! Best money I’ve spent on mine as well. They had a Black Friday deal for $100 off, so I couldn’t pass it up.

I took the car in for warranty service a couple of times after applying the tune and they didn’t say anything. Either they didn’t notice or they didn’t care.

Amazon is selling below start/stop disabler for $20.99 and it works!

I have a 2018 (red needle) and that requires you to order "big plug". Apparently, if you have a 2019 or later you need to buy the "small plug".

(I wonder if a white needle (late 2018's) made the switch to the small plug)

Honestly, I got used to start/stop kicking in... but WOW...I don't miss it one bit!

2018.5 has a larger plug. Prevents Auto Stop but kills Remote Start. These modules also disable remote start and in some cases can cause trouble codes. Engine light, code shows hood latch MIL. No remote start from both the app or the keyfob.

Trifecta tune is probably the best solution for start/stop. Even RT module prevents from getting state inspection right away after you unplugged it.

My remote start still works with this unit.

There is no CEL, no MIL on the dash.
I don't pay for Buick app to check if that works.

One downside is you won't know as easily when your battery is getting low (stock won't start/stop when battery low).

No other issues (yet) that I can see. Only 1 day in.

So I saw a few products on Amazon and one was this Hood switch cord and it said it worked for our car and it was only 20 bucks so I was like whatever let's try it. Let me tell you guys I was pleasantly surprised that it has been working perfectly! No more start-stop at all and no ill side effects. My remote engine start still functions perfectly everything is functioning perfectly except for the start stop system. I've had it in 2 weeks so far.
. 2018 Red Needle for Context.

Best $20 investment ever!
