1993 Park Avenue Ultra
Hi everyone! I recently acquired a '93 park avenue ultra. It has only 68000 miles on it and I'm correcting a few issues. Just replaced the rear air suspension, front pads, rotors, and calipers. I have some issues. When I hit the brakes it hangs up for a few seconds and I have to accelerate to 2.5k rpms to get it to fully release. No matter what speed when I apply the brakes it continutes to drag for 6-9 seconds after I release the pedal. Also I have a very slight misfire on idle and upon acceleration at low rpms. Misfire on idle is not something you can duplicate. Just misses when it wants to. Low rpm miss on acceleration is primarily between 50-70. If I'm above 2k rpms it won't miss, but anything below and it stubles hard. This is in OD and 3rd. I want this car to be as perfect as possible! Any suggestions are welcome!

can I get your vin to check for updates to your Computer calibrations and can you confirm if you have clean fluid in your master cylinder and if you have the original master cylinder on the car, and if you pull the ABS maxifuses on the firewall does the behavior still occur

Fluid is clean and master cylinder looks like it was recently replaced by the PO. Booster looks original. I'll check the fuses when I'm back at the shop!

Did the brakes hang up before you did the brake job? Also the rubber caliper brake hoses when old do collapse and cause the caliper to hang up.
Yeah they were hanging up when I bought it and I saw the front rotors had a massive heat ring. So I did the entire front kit. It's better, but still drags for 5-7 seconds after I brake and let off the pedal.

your car should have proportioning valves in the circuit

how clean are your brake lines and are they evidently new at all? Do you have proportioning valves in the rear brake lines? would be somewhere either by where the lines go from the subframe to the unibody or would be anywhere close to where they split to go separate ways to the wheels in the back. They look like this

when your brakes release when they drag, do you feel it in the steering wheel or just the seat through your body

Sorry for the long wait! Life happens and I had to replace a whole bathtub in the house. I got the booster replaced and that made the pedal feel great but not much improvement on the hanging. I don't feel the brakes in the seat or steering wheel. Imagine you lightly brake and take your foot off the pedal and it keeps braking as if your foot was still on the pedal. I'm going to do the hoses this week. They look to be original. I left the battery disconnected for 2 hours while I did the valve covers. Now the ABS light is on but no codes.

the hoses and the master cylinder would be my guess assuming there is no issues with the pads, the clips, or the calipers themselves. How are your rear drums doing?

Master cylinder looks very new. I the pads rotors and calipers first. Rear drums and shoes are good. No leaks from the cylinders.

could be a lack of bench bleeding the master, But what brand is the master, can you show me the shoes and the disc brakes? was the hardware of the drum brakes changed? Are the brake hoses old?

Good news! Brake hoses fixed the issue. ABS light is still on with no codes but that's an issue for another day. Battery went dead and now the car won't go over 3k rpms and I can't hear the supercharger when I gun it. It doesn't buck or jerk. It just fails to accelerate hard or make the supercharger whine. Any thoughts?

youre not spinning the supercharger then, can you show me your belt condition and the belt drive? Iirc the 1993 has a single serpentine belt thats special to that year

We changed the belts. Two came off of it. Would I be able to see this at idle?

Glad you fix it. Its been a common problem on GM cars for many years that why I suggested it a month ago. You figure after a few brake pad replacements and the mechanic/you/me manhandles the caliper dangling from the brakes hoses.

Can you show me closer on the belt like directly top down and also the ribs up close.

And your battery … unacceptable. I’ll post why you need to fix that
Battery came like that. I know it's bad and I'll get it taken care of, just trying to focus on the running issues.
