2012 Regal Turbo - Chrome bezel around gear shifter can be blinding

I have a 2013 and this is without a doubt a safety issue, sunglasses don't help. As a first time Buick Owner I am looking forward to see how they handle this obvious issue.

Just got my 2012 Regal Turbo Premium III, which has an outer polished chrome bezel and a shiny, mirror like chrome bezel surrounding the gear shift. When sunlight comes through the windshield and hits the bezel, it reflects into my eyes, blinding me unless I cover the bezel (sunglasses do not help). I have been in touch with customer relations to see what can be done, and it is being investigated. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Yesterday, Buick customer relations told me they had no fix for my issue, and unless it was to be officially classified as a problem, nothing more would be done. I was told to work with my dealer to find a solution, and if one was found, customer relations would do what it could to help get it resolved. He didn't elaborate on what he meant by "help get it resolved".

As suggested in an earlier post, one of the service people at my dealer said thinks a carbon fiber "cover" can be made to go over the chrome bezel. She said she would find out who makes them and let me know. Ideally, I think a brushed chrome look to match the outer trim piece would look best, if that is possible.

Mask off the areas around the bezel and take a wire brush to it. You will have the brushed chrome look.

This was an issue for us as well. Our dealer worked with us to fix it as part of our purchase agreement. Here is what we did.

Not sure how much it cost, but no problems any more. I used to drive around with a baseball cap over the shifter. The plate comes off real easy too.

Had my '13 GS for about 2 months so far, have yet to notice the issue with the bezel. but I guess with summer coming and the sun getting higer in the sky it could still come up...

The problem is the dam thing is concave on the edge, and it focuses the sunlight into an eyeball piercing beam. Mine is a lease car, so I plasti dipped it. If i owned the car I'd paint it, or get it carbon fiber / vinyl wrapped.

amihoch, Have you looked into vinyl wrapping the center piece yet? Ask your dealer, I'm sure they deal with a vinyl wrapping place for their company trucks.

Yes the buick regal Cxl 2011 also has that issue. I find myself constantly using something to cover the chrome shifter to keep it from shining in my eyes. Any alternative fixes?

I took mine off and painted it with a flat black from krylon. Matched perfectly.

I highly recommend doing the vinyl wrap so it can be removed when you go to trade the car in. Plus the vinyl is more durable and scratch resistant than paint. It does take a bit of skill to do, but it is possible to DIY.

I have alot of experience with 3M's Di-NOC products, which you can get in over 100 colors/patterns. If anyone is at a loss for where to get this done, I would be willing to do it for you for a small fee. You can PM me if you want or if you just want more information about the Di-NOC vinyl.

Just to clarify, i'm not advertising. Only mentioning that i'm willing to help a fellow enthusiast. I have nothing to sell. Just knowledge and skill to share.

You are in a GS, is it manual? If so, you don't have the same chrome piece we do on the Auto.
