hello,
I was driving today and on my way home. I noticed the turbo was working fine. I was in gear 4 or 5 and the turbo just stopped. So I proceeded to go down to 1st gear and try again and the turbo just disabled itself. is there an option to shut the turbo off on the regal GS or did my turbo in my car just die? The car literally becomes 100hp when the turbo dies and it absolutely blows donkey nuts. I have the option of returning the car so its a possibility. Why would a turbo just stop working especially on a brand new car like this. Is there some sort've eco mode or something im not aware of?

Thanks,
emp

Several people have had low power issues. Thought it was a fault code traced back to the cam phasers? Quick search might help you out

Check your inter cooler hoses to make sure one didn't pop off

ok, so it looks like my turbo is still somewhat working but now i got a check engine light. this is f$%king fantastic! i really dont have time for this shit seeing how this is a brand new car. Obviously the check engine light has something to do with my turbo cause when I first got in, It started to push it into 3rd gear and the turbo kicked in and then crapped out(jerky movements). I don't know alot about car stuff so please bear with me if i sound like a noob. When I first got the car, The turbo was acting kinda eratic and I thought that was normal sometimes.(sputter/jerky turbo kicking in and out). Looks like im gonna be driving this bitch back to her resting place. not sure if i wanna keep her cause shes already broken after few bangs.

Mine did that with the first winter I had the car. Did it several times. Restart the car and it went away. I didnt get a light, but those who took it in and had it scanned showed a cam phaser something or another fault.

I havent had it happen in almost a year, so I never went into the dealership for it.

Dont sweat it, its just something rather minor more than likely. Once you get it fixed, tune that beeitch. You love it and forget all about not having power :icon:

Edit: Mine only did it in cold weather. Its been 20-30 degrees lately at night and hasnt come back. So Im hoping it wont ever show again.

We had the same issue with our 2012.. They once replaced some sort of boost pressure sensor and we had the same issue after the replacement. Eventually they replaced the entire turbo unit and we have not had any problems since.

Had this happen while on a test drive. It blew the MAP sensor, once replaced it ran fine.

emp and NewTekBuzz,

Keep me posted on your concern. I would have to recommend contacting your dealer for a diagnosis. Feel free to contact me privately if you need additional assistance.

I had this happen to me recently about twice in one month. I had Onstar check but the car didn't have a code they could find. I'm in Florida and its in the 90s here so its not like the previous cold weather issues they talk about on this thread. Once it happened just after getting off the highway doing 70 and another just as I drove out of my driveway. That means once it happened when the engine was hot and another when it was cold. I stopped at the light and restarted and the issue went away. The only thing that might have changed is the Gas. I usually get 93 from Mobile but I started getting it from another vendor. They said it was top tier gas so I tried it. That very week was the first time it happened. I moved to a BP in the area and it happened again but it still had some gas from the other station. It hasn't happened since but I sure would like to know what it was for sure. Blaming the gas is just grasping at straws.

I finally had a check engine light come on for the mechanic to diagnose. I took my car to the dealer and this is what they found. P0030 - HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 1), P0101 - Mass or Volume Air flow Circuit Range/Performance Problem, P1101 - MAF Sensor Out Of Self Test Range./KOER Not Able To Complete KOER Aborted. That pointed to an Exhaust Camshaft Solenoid. They changed the Solenoid and cleared the codes. No issues yet.

Mine is doing this too, i thought i was losing my mind but i can feel the turbo pulsating sort of. When i downshift on the freeway and get on a gear and hold it in that gear till about 5500 rpms you can feel the car hesitating like the turbo is coming in and out. Im not gettting any codes though on the dash. Has anybody taken their car in without any codes flashing on the dash and still had an issue. Im wondering if these people who took their cars in all had check engine lights on or did they take them in for the issue with no lights and the dealer still found an issue. i love my gs but this hesitation shit is frustrating

Hi Tricia, what is one to do if no check engine lights are on but i am experiencing this turbo cut out. I was on the freeway today and downshifted into 5th gear to pass someone. as i got on the car i noticed it was hesitating a little and you can hear the turbo whistle come in and out. obviously without a trouble code going to the dealer can be a waste of time from my experience. they always tell me without a trouble code there is not much they can do. but driving this car around like this is very frustrating. any suggestions.

My regal does this religiously and I can not find any solution. I am a salesman for vehicles and would never suggest a Buick on anyway after my experiences.

I have solved this problem at least on my 2013 regal turbo 3, there is a sensor called a variable camshaft timing solenoid basically it’s a sensor that allows oil to flow through it and uses the oil pressure to adjust the cam and variable valve timing. I’ve found the solution when my car starts loosing power is- 1. Check the oil level 2. Change the oil 3. Pull and clean the sensors, they have a little grate on them what can get clogged with oil sludge. I believe there is two of them that control the cam more. 4. If none of these things have worked consider using heavier oil then the manufacture recommends.

First of all, you really should not use a heavier oil than recommended on any of these modern engines, you don't know what you're going to mess up. Stick to what the cap says. On older pushrod engines, you can get away with using a heavier or lighter oil than recommended.

Anyways, there are 2 of those timing solenoids, one for the exhaust and one for the intake. I replaced both on mine around 2 weeks ago. An oil change is required when you replace the solenoids, so keep that in mind.

The PN for both solenoids (my engine is the 2.0T LHU) are as follows:
12679100
12679099
