Ok, i will make this short and sweet and update it as I have time.

Bought a new OEM cluster for a 2014+ Regal that has the RPO UDD - The digital dash.

Repinned my harness (I will update it as I find necessary)

Programed the cluster

and after a lot of exhausting work...well...IT WORKS!!!

No way to control it yet because I haven't ordered a new wheel with the D-Pad controls (the turn signal stalk controls DO NOT work with this cluster)

a few pics, will update when I have time.

Awesome. Do you know if this is a direct swap to a 2014 Non-GS?

I remember reading a thread about this. Interesting

Nice work. I didn't know this was even possible. I have a 2014 Regal steering wheel from when I swapped my to the GS one. The controls are from the GS with the front collision warning system. I will let this go really cheap as I have no need for it.

Is this cluster swap 'just because' or is there some other benefit?
Looks good tho!

So, having a Holly Jolly Christmas by Faith Hill really helped ya out there did it? 😉 (1st screenshot)

Yes I had a 2014 Regal Premium 1 and installed a GS cluster. You just need to get it programmed with your VIN and the odometer unlocked. Everything works perfectly.

Did you have it programmed/unlocked by the company that sold you the cluster? I'm surprised the odometer isn't stored in the BCM like my old GM vehicles.

If listening to Faith Hill is wrong, I dont wanna be right 😉

No. I bought it brand new. The odometer is stored in both the BCM and cluster. I had to recode the BCM from scratch, code the cluster, marry them, code the radio, learn the key with SPS.

I am integrating the entire infortainment stack into my car and in order to take advantage of it, you need an updated cluster. Whether it be the small screen one in the base or the 8" one in the CXL/GS like I put in. The part number is 23197316.

Hell of a deal on ebay right now, this cluster is 500+ from a dealer!

The odometer is stored in the BCM. White auto and media programmed my cluster for me. They have to program the VIN and then unlock the odometer. The cluster I bought was brand new. As soon as I fired it up the mileage showed and everything worked. Granted my car was 2014. I could swap back and forth between clusters and the correct mileage would always show. No programming was needed at the BCM level for me.

They told me if I drove more than a few kilometers with the cluster would be locked permanently.

It is stored in both the BCM and the cluster. When they don't match is when you have problems. After dicking with it for hours and hours to get it all married I had the opportunity to change the VIN and miles stored in both units many many times. I didn't actually try lowering the miles, but I do believe that it will set off an alarm in the BCM if the odometer is turned back more than X amount.

The mileage may be stored in the cluster as well but when I installed the brand new cluster with 0 miles it pulled the mileage from the BCM. They did not program any mileage in the cluster. Also I could swap in the old cluster and it would update to the new mileage immediately. The 2014 may be programmed differently making it easier.

What did White Automotive charge for the cluster reprogram? Does it work as it does in a GS car?

I'm looking into doing this for my 2014 Regal.

I'm thinking you already know this but it still won't work (at least for audio controls etc you'll get the cluster menus but thats it)... you are missing everything else on the MOST bus 🙁 I guess if you REALLY want to fabricate the harnesses for the radio/hmi/mdp you could but it will still have missing frames from other modules. There are a TON of software revisions between the silver box cars and the HMI cars...

PS we can also program it properly so you don't have the warning lights from features you don't have 😉

the cluster in the Buick regal or opel car store the mileage in the cluster but read this from the BCM. when you change the cluster you must reprogram with SPS with the new vin number, after when the vin number is programmed in the cluster this read the mileage from BCM and store the nuw value in yours memory. the mileage of BCM is Always the mileage viewed in the cluster IF the vin number correspond.

I paid $250 to have them program the cluster. I have since traded off the Regal but I took the GS cluster out and put the stock one back in. Yes they program it for the VIN so I had no warnings for features I did not have. Everything worked perfectly. Controlled with the steering wheel controls just like the stock cluster. The only thing that does work properly is linking the cluster mode to the driving mode since we don't have the driving mode switch on non GS models. You can just manually switch between touring and sport mode. I used the touring mode 95% of the time.

If you are interested in my cluster send me a PM. I will let it go for a very reasonable price. I purchased it brand new and probably put around 12000 miles on it.

Does anyone know what the USB port on the back of the GS cluster is used for?

Thanks for the info. I understand using a used/locked cluster requires a lot more work to reprogram, and I've got a new cluster on order, but thanks for the offer.

How difficult was it to install the new cluster?
