2017 Buick Encore Turbo Failure

Add a little marvels oil to the oil about 1,000 miles before the oil change.. That will clean any sludge out

GM replaced the coolant tubes on my 2016 Encore Premium - 60,000 km - no charge...but the smell of the antifreeze on the engine and the comment that I got to the dealer 'just in time' - kind of worried me about the durability of the turbo assembly.

That second can after the second HO² isn't a cat, it is a flame arrestor. Turboed vehicle all have these flame suppressors. You don't need to to put it back on but you may get some flames out the tail pipe when you let off the gas pedal. some do some don't.

Thanks I learned something.

I don't see a problem on this car with that happening enough to be of any concern.

On the Fiat Abarth I had before this car now that car absolutely. It was loud to begin with having no mufflers stock, and it would backfire often when you got into the throttle. I could easily see flames shooting out the back of it all stock.

Ok so the shop figured out what was wrong with my car. He has the new turbo on and he said he checked the pressure on it and this part is leaking.

This part did not come with the new turbo, but I did order the turbo off of ebay.

A brand new GM turbo may come with this part and I would be very curious to know if it does.

I see this part called different things

F Valve
Valve Kit-Charging Air Bypass
GM turbocharging bypass kit

The part number from the dealer was 55507184 (This is the NEW Updated Part)

My research came up with other part numbers which are alternate part numbers 55590593, and 25198631; however these part numbers appear to be the OLD PART so it has been updated at some point.

I am kind of shocked at the price for what the thing is. $300 at dealer get part tomorrow or $200 online about a week maybe two. I don't see any electronics and it looks like it is all mechanical. I mean it costs more than the entire turbo assembly I got off ebay.

Shouldn't be any sludge if he's using full synthetic like recommended.
I Think synthetic Oil will cook and sludge just like regular oil, just at a higher temperature.. And I'm sure that turbo gets hot as hell..

That diagram is confusing, The turbo itself isn't called out with a number, Does #4 include the turbo?

I can't imagine it cause $300 and also comes with the turbo, I've heard it the whole turbo assembly is only $600 from gm

Well it shouldn't get that hot with a 1.4l turbo ecotec or something else has failed.

#1 is the turbo assembly and that part is probably the pressure bypass/ blow-off valve.

I got my car back from the shop. I had to pay 260$ for this part above. The valve kit charge bypass or whatever it is called. I got it from a local ac/delco parts shop, and they gave me a discount. They got the part the next day.

The shop didn't charge me anything more to put this on, and I supplied the part so I believe it was bad/leaking.

The mechanic did tell me the oil was black. I told him I just changed it, and he said the oil was black inside the oil tube going to the turbo so maybe the factory lines get stopped up or don't circulate well or a previous owner didn't change it out too good.

Everything was changed. New coolant lines, new oil lines, new sensors... I am leaving the heat shield off I think it looks better.

Everything has been working great until yesterday. The car started becoming very loud. I got home and this clamp was barely hanging on. It is hard to see where it has came apart but it clamps the turbo assembly to the O2 sensor housing.

Make sure if your turbo is changed out they replace this clamp. It is about 40$ at the dealership. Part number
55565351.

Its been a long day....

I have a 2017 Buick Encore purchased brand new that has 31k miles on it. 95% of the miles are highway as I travel quite a bit for work. I also follow the "aggressive" maintenance schedule in the owners manual. Coming home from Nashville, TN, my check engine line start to flash and my RPMs go up to about 4k. My car has no power and cannot maintain speed. I pull over, the car isn't overheating everything else looks good. Just no power. Now, I know a little about cars and quickly realized it had to be the turbocharger on it. I limped to the closest Buick dealership for them to run diagnostics on it and tell me that the turbocharger has failed and it would need to be replaced. First of all, I understand shit happens. Im like ok, when can it be fixed. They state not for at least a month. Im like a month?! The inform me that the turbo charger is on backorder, and they have a another customer with the same problem and she has been waiting since May 31st. Im like....ok ok I understand, Im fine with a loaner. To which they reciprocate with, "We cannot provide you with a loaner as we can only loan our cars out when we know that the part is in stock and on its way" Strange, but ok. In which case I respond with, I can rent a car, I'll pay for it as long as you all will reimburse me. They stated that they cannot do that, that they have no options for me even though my car is still in its bumper to bumper warranty. Call GM customer service. At this point I am getting a little frustrated, I've own several cars in my lifetime, I understand things break, but anytime I have ever had to have warranty work done, they (Honda, Acura, and Cadillac) have always provided me with a loaner or rental. Long story short, I call GM, they open a case and escalate it. They offer to cover the rental for 48hrs (they will only cover a GM rented vehicle) until the case manager can get back to me with how they want to proceed if it all. This is the first time I have ever had this kind of experience. Do I have a recourse? Any options I am missing

The fact it is a 1.4l is just reason for it to get hotter, little engine had to work harder to do the job… plus woth a turbo spinning at 100,000 rpm yes this little engine probably gets very hot. Its probably smart to run some marvels mystery oil in the oil every 10k miles or so to keep the internals clean..

The size of the engine does not mean a whole lot these days. I was looking at the new trailblazer and shocked that it has like a 1.2L 3 Cylinder engine on the base model. The Upgraded RS engine is 1.3L also a 3 cylinder. Both have a turbo of course. I have not test drove one but that seems insulting in a 30,000$ car. At least the pretty blue colored ones start at 30,000$.

Actually the encore engine does not get very hot, and the water pump is nothing special. The water pump on my chevy spark with 1.2L (no turbo) is bigger.

The turbo does not get real hot either. I mean it does all turbos get hot, but nothing out of the ordinary about it. Plus it has coolant running through it.

Add me to the list. My wife has had 2 Encores and they both have had the turbo go out right after the warranty expired. The dealers will not help, of course. Timing is everything...
