A/C Compressor Noise?

I have the same noise as well. I think it has something to do with GM trying to cut costs and deleting some sound deadening from the north American bounds cars.

My 2019 makes the same noise...but it started AFTER they replaced an A/C line last summer for an unrelated issue. It never made the noise before it was serviced, but last summer my A/C went out and when I brought it in I was told it was a leaking line and they ordered the part. Several months later when the part arrived I had it installed and have had the buzzing/whining noise ever since. Not sure if the part was an updated part or not.

Same experience here with my 2018. I had a leak from a hose rubbing against the engine. The hose was replaced and the system recharged. Ever since then I have noticed the compressor seems to be noisy when running. I wonder if there was a change to the oil that is used when they charged the system? There was no noise before the leak.

Same noise here, 2019 Tourx. Dealership claims it is "typical". They let me drive a 2020 Regal Sportback, same noise. On the Tourx FaceBook page at least one owner's dealership brought in a service rep and they diagnosed it as an acoustical issue related to the the combination of materials (steel and rubber) used in the A/C system lines. I'm going to live with it and just turn up the stereo as the A/C works and blows cold...

I have a 2020 Malibu as a rental.

no AC noise at all. All you hear is the fan.

i do not hear it on mine.
but mine came overcharged from the factory?

Yeah
I looked it up after you posted it.

crazy how much power a 1.5 liter engine produces.

car drove normal as in did not feel underpowered.

Has anyone else noticed an electronic humming/whirring type noise on their cars, especially when stopped or at low RPMs (more noticeable at low speeds due to wind and road noise not drowning it out) with the HVAC set to Auto or with A/C on?

The noise is definitely compressor related as it will disappear when I turn the HVAC off, and won't return with just the fan on. It will only return when I purposely turn on the A/C or put the system to "Auto", i.e. the compressor kicks on.

I sort of noticed this noise since new, but didn't think much of it. Now I think the noise is getting louder. Certainly annoying, really buzzes in my ears while stopped.

I plan to test drive another Regal or Malibu with the 2.0t to compare as well as have my dealership check it out. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.
I know this is an old thread, but I just bought a 2020 TourX that had the same issue. My dealer adjusted and tightened the compressor lines so they would no longer make contact with the cars body. Completely quiet now.

I can confirm my 2019 makes this noise as well. I have a hunch like some have mentioned above that this has to do with 1234yf (yf stands for your f.......). I'll leave the rest up to everyone's imagination, lol.
Your friend, You’re funny.

I think you really meant You’re fracked. (grammar police)

I can hear mine but it's not that bad, that one in the vid is really loud. But yeah, not silent, but it doesn't scream

Just saw your new post on this old unsolvable issue, any chance you could share the name of the dealership and the tech who solved the problem? I want to take my TourX in to address this issue and it sounds like he cracked the code...

Lindsay Buick, GMC out of Warrenton VA. I worked with a Service Manager named Carlton.

Wait, so you don't have that woosh noise now when the AC is running?
Do you know which areas were tightened?
I wouldn't call it a whoosh sound more of a vibration. The AC in my car sounded just like the video posted in this thread by 96americanluxury.

I don't know the specific areas. I was told this was a known issue and that the tech loosened, adjusted, and retightened the compressor lines so that they would no longer contact other parts of the vehicle.

Thank you, I've been waiting a year to address this, and now at least I have a possible solution, much appreciated!

Happy to help. I hope it solves the issue.

Is there a TSB for this?

I will be calling that dealer and ask to speak with Carlton.
I'd like to buy him a beer.
