A/C off due to high engine temp

Yea it has happened like that occasionally, now it’s just constant now. Problem now, no ac, summer here in FLA, you know the rest. Then when the alert comes on, how do we ultimately know if the engine is getting too hot? Good thing the fan kicks on though. I just want it to be over at this point.
After clearing the codes it will start working again for awhile. In the meantime you will be able to use your ac. This is what is working for me.

2013 Rivera here. Same problem. Replaced Thermostat, ECT Sensor, ECT Sensor and still the SAME Problem. My mechanic was suggesting it may be a bigger computer issue but how would we fix that?? This is really annoying and I would like it fixed.

Thank You for this information fore I'm currently dealing with problem It's really bad I'm in NJ. and the temps has been in the hundreds I have a Verano 016 and this problem occurred two wks. ago till today it drained my battery I had to get a jump now I go out to check it four days later I get a clicking noise I try to jump it again nothing total shutdown the kicker is my key is locked in the ignition and I'm without an income so I can't afford a mechanic any suggestions

Found out the problem. It wasn’t my starter that went out as initially thought to be. It was my battery. What was going on, anytime I turned my car off, the cooling fan would continue to run as if the car was hot. Due to the cooling fan continuing to run after the car is turned off, it killed my battery, 2 batteries at that. Took it to dealership and it was determined that the coolant temperature sensor CONNECTOR had “melted” and had to be replaced. The repair was about 160. The diagnostic fee was 135. So far it seems to have solved the problem. Knowing what I know now, I would’ve tried to have the connector replaced first, then go from there.
My 2012 Verano is now having the same problem. I will have the mechanic check the sensor connector first. Thanks TreDawg!

So I’ve got a 2015 verano with this problem. I have to pull thermostat fuse, while car is off, to get to reset. Also when I turn the car off and the fan continues to run, I crank back up and turn off quickly to cut the fan off. Not sure if this will work for other Buicks but thought I’d mention.

16 Verano. My temp gauge has been fluctuating recently. Within the last week I’ve gotten “AC off due to high engine temp” and the gauge stays on the “cool” side. I first replace the thermostat, then took it to autozone for the obd and it pulled the code for the coolant temp sensor. Just got finished replacing that. I’m still getting the same alert. Took it to autozone and hooked it back up to the obd and had the worker attempt to reset it, but the code is still there along with the alert. Don’t know which way to turn now
I am experiencing the same thing with my Buick Vernon.

2011 Regal 2.4L. "A/C off due to high temp". Temp IS NOT HIGH. Replaced temp. sensor. Still happens. If I disconnect battery, the warning will be off. If I drive over 15 minutes, it happens again. The only way to reset, is to again, disconnect battery. I have discovered that if I drive LESS than 15 minutes, turn car off, and then back on again, the warning won't come back on again. If car sits idle and is completely cool, I have to start the whole process over of stopping and restarting car before 15 mins. This leads me to believe it's the cars ECM module, since disconnecting battery must reset it.

Stop and take a breath for a minute, please.

IN - deep breath - OUT - let it out slowly.

"High Temp" is determined by the car, which has to use sensors. If a sensor is reporting a High Temp, then it's going to tell you it's a high temp as well. It's the same as what a judge does in court when asking Officer Friendly what happened. If your account and his differ, the judge will side with the officer. In this case, the ECM is siding with the sensor, and never asked you!

You need to scan it for all codes and then share those here.
