I have a 2012 GS...and the only voice control I'm able to do is simple make phone calls.
Was there a discussion on how to upgrade to Intellilink?
Edit: okay, I need to swap out for a 2013 head unit... Cool
I assume it has to be VIN coded to my VIN?

In 2012 if you have navigation you do not have intellilink. You can swap in the 2013 headunit but you will have to find someone to program it for you. I am sure the dealer would not touch this or have the know how to even add an option that currently do not have.

I found a used unit out of a 2013 for less than $200 shipped. Many vehicles use this same radio so there are quite a few out there.

Best place to look? EBay...? Search terms UHQ Up9?

eBay or look on Car-parts.com search for radios from the Camaro, Cruze, Terrain, and Equinox, some radios might have more codes than the UHQ UP9 but that doesn't matter.

Nice, thanks MattyT! Then it's just a matter of finding someone to "VIN" it.

This leaves me in a bit of a quandary... Do I do this to get Intellilink or hold off and do the whole 2014+ mega swap everything...?

Yeah it should be plug and play after getting it programmed for your vin. Pwntbywombat is doing the programming for me and knows way more about this stuff than I could ever hope to know. I'll keep you updated on the results after I get the radio back and installed.

Hi all,

First post here on the forums.

I currently have a 13 Regal Turbo. It does not have the nav option but it does have IntelliLink. I have read this thread and I am sure that I could complete the radio swap. My only question is the units I find do not have the control panel. Would this also be a necessary purchase to make the nav complete and fully functional? If the control panel is necessary to replace would it retain all functionality? Or is it functional off the bat and I can upgrade the control panel later. I have contacted my local dealers about the VIN programming and am waiting to hear back on prices.

"Thank you for contacting us at McCarthy Chevrolet. I spoke with Scott Essex, my service advisor, and he said the wiring would not hook up to the new unit, since there isn’t a navigation unit currently."

That is the reply I received from one dealer yet all the radios I've looked at online both with nav and without nav look to have the same connections. Anyone have any insight on this? Will i need to add a gps antenna if this does work?

The wiring should be the same, you would have to add a gps antenna but other than that everything should be there. You would have to switch out the front control panel since your existing one doesn't have any Nav buttons.

Thank you MattyT! That is what I figured but just wanted to double check before dropping some money.

That is an option. However, at a cost of $1550 it is outside my price range. I am looking at buying used parts and installing them myself. Then with the dealer reprogramming my VIN to the new radio. Should be able to knock it out for a fraction of the cost. I'll know exactly by the end of this week and hopefully knock it out next week while I'm on vacation. As long as the dealer can get me in at some point.

If you know someone at a dealer they might be able to help you, but I doubt a dealer will take the time to jump through the necessary hoops to program the radio. You're better off going through a third party. That will save you a lot of headache especially if you don't know what to ask for programming wise.

The UHQ radio should work with the non nav control panel however you won't have physical buttons to view the map, pan/zoom the map, or launch the guidance.

Will the control panel from the 2011 regal with nav fit my 2013 regal? Can't seem to match up a part number for the 2013.

The only difference I found when I was looking into the UHQ swap for my 12 GS is that the 11 use SD card maps so you'll have an SD slot in the bezel with no actual card reader and some of the buttons are moved around. With the UHQ radio the buttons might not coorispond to the function they are labeled with. IE: say the 2011 panel has the DEST button in as button 13 yet the 2013 panel has the SOURCE button as button 13. You will press what is labeled MAP, yet the radio will change sources. That's just my 2¢. I would get the panel for the radio it was designed for. Or hell, experiment with it and let us know! We don't know for sure until someone tries it out!

2015 has the NG2.0 HMI. You would need an NG2.5 HMI module for a 2015. For you however it's a direct swap. Unplug old HMI plug in new one. Program it to your car. Done.

Sorry if this has been explained, so far I felt like most things were directed to specific situations with 2012 models.

I'm just trying to figure out what I could do to our 2014 to have the ability of the 2016.

Our 2014 has Nav, intelilink, backup camera, basically every option available in 2014 except AWD. Would it just be an HMI replacement?

Yes. You just need an HMI NG2.5.

Part number 23415899

Any idea where I might get one of these parts, and is it difficult to put in? I've tried searching both the part number and HMI NG 2.5 and not gotten anywhere. Would a dealer do it, or do I have to find somewhere to buy it?

I have a 2014 Regal with Intellilink, but no nav. Would that also add nav?
