Android Auto

I have this system retrofitted into my 2012.

If you dont have nav, I have my old radio which has option code UFU+UP9 (Intellilink non nav with Bluetooth Music and phone) along with the display unit, front panel controls, etc if you want a plug and play upgrade to whatever radio you have.

If you have nav and want an easy upgrade you can upgrade to a radio with option code UHQ. That is the drop in replacement for the 2013s that had nav, intellilink, bluetooth, etc.

Do you know if a 2013 radio could be dropped into a 2011 with nav?

Any idea where I might get one of these parts, and is it difficult to put in? I've tried searching both the part number and HMI NG 2.5 and not gotten anywhere. Would a dealer do it, or do I have to find somewhere to buy it?

I have a 2014 Regal with Intellilink, but no nav. Would that also add nav?

Every 2014+ has intellilink. You do not need to specify it like the older generations do 😛

If you have no nav, then you have RPO IO5. The HMI part number I gave you would upgrade you to RPO IO6.
RPO IO6 is the same system you have now but with the factory nav option.
Your icon for on*NAV will change to just "Navigation" as the unit has a nav application and maps built into it.

If you use a NG2.5 HMI with IO6 (the part number I sent you), you will add Android Auto, CarPlay, and Navigation to your current system.

You will loose the Time Shift Radio functionality.

You will need to add a nav antenna (the blue connector)

No it is not hard. If you have ever put a radio in a car before you can handle this. It is a plug and play upgrade.

You can purchase it preprogrammed from Chris@whiteautoandmedia or you can go the DIY route and procure it yourself and have someone program it locally.

They use the same system made by Panasonic. The connectors are physically the same. However there are some differences between early and late production 2011 cars in the connector pinouts. You will probably have to shift some wires around but it shouldnt be too big of a pain.

In a 2011 I know you will have the X44 connector but may not have the 20 pin Molex Stac64 connector that has your voice command high/low, wheel speed high/low, aux l/r/detect, etc

Thanks Wombat. My biggest concern is getting the screen out without damaging the screen or the trim. I assume the part replaced is just the head unit behind the screen, leaving the screen itself alone?

Does it have to be programmed for my specific vehicle then?

Finally! I took my car in today for the power steering recall, and asked my service advisor one more time...Is the update for Android Auto available? Yes, it is! Look forward to seeing how this works.

I had my car updated yesterday and I'm still working on getting my car to run android auto. Every time I plug the phone in and activate the app from the car's radio, it loses the connection to the phone.

Any advice?

The screen and the vents come out as one piece. It's super easy. Remove the bolts holding the whole assembly in place then Just pull on it.

DROOOOOIIIIDD haha sorry. Umm, I have an iPhone so as soon as I plug it in the projection icon changes to the AirPlay icon. From there it works pretty seamlessly.

Do you know if SD card function is retained? 2014-2015 has 2 USB, 1 SD Card and 1 Aux but the SD card slot was removed for 2016+. I've been using it on my 2014 for MP3 playback and would hate to lose it with the HMI upgrade.

Too bad Time Shift Radio is lost. I've been using it a lot. Does it keep HD radio or is that also lost?

If I buy a used NG2.5 HMI, do you know how much Chris charges for programming? I'm trying to determine if it costs too much to "upgrade" if I'm losing too many features in the process.

So I was looking thru the forum and found this thread. I have a 2012 lacrosse Premium 3. I am looking to upgrade to the nav with Intellilink. I see the andriod auto is available for 2014+. Would I be able to add the 2014 unit to my 2012 and get the nav, intellilink and andriod auto options? I would prefer to go this route and get the extra options than just doing the 2013 unit. Also currently I would have to get the UHQ radio , controls and gps antenna if I went with the 2013. if it is possible to go 2014 what other parts would I need? THere was a mention of a someone doing the programing on here. What was the cost if you can say?

You need a high quality cable. Also, if your phone is usb-c, you need to use a usvlb-a to usb-c cable

Is it correct that this part number (23415899) has been replaced by newer part 84089011?

I have a '14 regal gs awd with all options so I just need to pull the radio out, swap in this part, have someone program it, and I'm good to go?
What does programming involve? Setting the VIN to match your car?

I'm assuming if I ever were to bring the car into the dealer for service I should swap back in the original part?

Bump. Anyone have any updates on this? About to purchase a 2015 Regal and really want Android Auto

My Buick dealership service dept. said that my Samsung Note 9 isn't compatible to use AA with my 2016 Buick Regal.

All I know is that in order to use Android Auto, your Regal has to have that functionality (not sure if all 2016+ Regals have this functionality). Android Auto works with all Android-powered phones that run 5.0 (Lollipop) or higher. In order to use it, you'll need to download the free Android Auto app and connect your phone to your car using a USB cable

I think Android recommends using the usb cable that comes with the phone.

Does your infotainment system show Android Auto listed next to Apple Play?

If you can load and play the AA program on the phone, it is compatible.

Hi, I know this is an old thread but I have a 2015 Lacrosse and when I purchased it I thought it had android auto, apple play, projection, pandora, etc. because I looked at another one that was the same model, same year, same color and it had all of those apps but I chose mine because of the price and warranty. Mine doesn't have all of those apps. Can get those apps via update?
