Anyone buy a spare for the GS?

the Modern Spare tire is a T155/70R18 which comes out to 26.5" in diameter.
The stock 245/40x19 is 26.7" in diameter.
The stock 255/35x20 is 27" in diameter.

Will it make a difference while driving, probably, but any donut will probably not be the same size as the service wheel/tire. Keeping your speed to a maximum of 50 should be fine and it's far better than no spare with a blown tire or destroyed wheel.

The performance is same spec.....so no difference. Cost via Modern vs Performance is 20 higher Modern (depends on your tax rate via Amazon). That's with shipping included. Quality wise no clue.

Look at the wheel from Performance Spare, steel, and the wheel from Modern Spare, aluminum. In addition the Modern Spare jack fits under the spare and the jack comes with a ratchet. Those are the factors that made me choose the Modern.

depending on how many miles were on your tires, you could have bought two new tires of the correct size and been on your way the same day. I assume you had to pay for the new tire?
I know this sounds far fetched, there wasn't a 245/40/19 tire to be found anywhere....and "nothing" even close to the same rolling diameter! Les Schwab, Discount Tire, Ford dealership, GM dealerships, alas, not even the local Bend, OR. Goodyear store. Tire was covered from my extended warranty carried over from my totaled Honda CR-V.

The only funny part is I sat in the Burns' OR. McDonalds parking lot for just under 9 hours. I was way out of the way and bothered nobody. Burns' PD, Hines' PD, Harney County Sheriffs Office, and OSP, all took turns watching me. Sometimes they'd take turns driving by, but mostly they sat at the Pacific Pride fueling station across the street. I was observed pretty much the whole time I sat there once I raised some suspicion(?) As soon as the flat-bed tow truck showed up and started loading my car, all law enforcement disappeared.

If they'd only come over to speak with me, I'm sure they would've understood my motives as to why, and what I was doing. Sad!

Been reading everyone's replies and STOP USING THE (FIX-A-FLAT) It'll ruin your sensors and you'll have to buy a new one. I've had mine for year and once I knew I didn't have a spare I chucked that crap to the trash. I work in a tire center and seen how those chemicals ruin your TPMS sensors 👌 (you may see them in wally world and other retail stores anf on them little cans it says (sensor friendly) B***s***!! more $$$ for the stealerships

I just finished test fitting the Modern Spare on my 2017 GS. It is an 18" spare that clears the front Brembos with no problem. The spare fits in the tire well and the jack when left in a partially open position fits under the spare. I just have to pick up the factory holddown nut. The jack comes with a ratchet so raising and lowering the jack is very quick. The jack ratchet, wheel nut breaker bar with sockets, and five lugs nuts for the spare come with a bag for storage that fits in the tire well.

Hi, first post here; I just got my 2012 Regal GS (new to me) 2 weeks ago, with the air pump being the only thing in the spare tire well.
If the Modern Spare fits in the spare tire well of a 2017 GS, and clears the front brakes on a 2017 GS, should it also fit in both places on my 2012 GS?

I made my best attempt to measure the space in my spare tire well, and it seems to be 6 inches tall,
and to have a width about the 26.5 inch size you indicated,
but the spare tire well seems doughnut shaped (curved on the bottom), so I am not sure I am measuring its width precisely.

In case it matters for the front brakes clearance, the 4 new tires I just purchased indicate "255/35ZR20".

Performance spare has years broken out on their website for ordering. Your 2012 would be the same as my 2013. Everything fits nicely and the kit that came with the car fits in your garage until you sell it!

I wanted to report back that I purchased the Modern Spare for my 2012 GS,and it arrived yesterday. I tested it my installing it in place of one of my front tires and gave it a 1 mile test drive. I stored it in the well for the spare tire and it fits fine. I was able to fit the jack and the bag holding the ratchet, wheel nut breaker and spare sockets under the spare.

I had to remove the small black plastic cap which fits in the center of the wheel, so that the vertical bolt (5 inches long?) attached to the center of the floor of the spare well could keep its position. Since my Regal came only with the electric air pump, there was only a tiny nut on this bolt. The threading on this bolt is not normal, so my son bent a piece of scrap aluminum to hold the tire in place, with the small nut that came with my car.

Thanks to everyone for sharing the information on the two products available.
