Buick Regal Sports Tourer project

The GS is a flood car, I don't expect the electronics or mechanicals to be usuable, but we'll see what works. Mostly just bought it for the skirts, bumper cover, Brembos, seats, and wheels.

Beautiful GS. Glad to hear it will live on. What a kickass project, can't wait to see the results!

Could you humor me and try to install an 18" wheel from a TourX onto the front axle of the GS? I'm curious if the TourX wheels clear the GS brakes.

I’d love to see this as well

I will as soon as I get a chance, but I don't think they will. The 20" Lacrosse wheels arrived today and they do not clear the Brembos... 😢

The weather has turned for the worse here so I haven't been able to work outside much. I was shocked by how many scratches the cladding has created in such a short time. I will be swapping the fenders from the GS as well to reduce the amount of paint correction that will be required. The quarters are still going to require some buffing and polishing, but the fenders were worn through the color coat. Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow and I will pull the fenders of the GS tomorrow and swap the front end this weekend.

Thanks for the link, I may contact them and see if they can get me the lift gate emblem.

But I discovered today that the Opel air bags are completely different than ours, so it wouldn't be as simple as swapping the covers; it looks like it would require an entire steering wheel swap and I don't know if they would be compatible... I also have concerns about the Adaptive Cruise Control and whether the Opel grill would be compatible. May have to abandon that idea.

Was the problem not enough offset on the wheel or too small of an inside diameter of the wheel?

I remember too little offset being an issue for swapping Brembo brakes on other FWD GM vehicles. The solution was spacers or using wheels off of compatible vehicles.

An Opel steering wheel may be worthwhile as they have paddle shifters. If it's just a matter of swapping steering wheels I would give it a second thought.

I got the GS bumper fitted and I had enough clips to install one side skirt.

I took the GS wheels to the powder coater on Friday. Once I have those back I can install the Brembos.

Lookin good! What are your plans for your GS rims?

Just a suggestion; you could order a few Opel 58mm wheel caps and trim one down to the typical 50mm diameter of the airbag badge depression. The backing of the badge will cover any residual holes from the original Buick badge.

Just wanted to support OP in this endeavor, fun to watch the work!

Too bad enthusiasts have to go to this extreme to remove silly plastic cladding. But I guess we should be happy this wagon got brought here in the first place!

Not a fan of the limited wheel options with GM's atypical bolt pattern either.

I agree that this is the version Buick should build. A GS sport wagon with some performance cred.

2 of them were curbed badly so I decided to have them all powder coated Anthracite. I'm not a fan of the machined face wheel trend...
GM basically did the same with the Avenir wheels but kept them all silver.

I like this idea, but the thought of what would happen in a deployment is a bit scary.

I like this idea, but the thought of what would happen in a deployment is a bit scary.

It does sound a bit like a one-shot CPR immediately after an air bag deployment, but there is a seam molded into the back of the air bag cover so when the air bag goes off, the cover splits neatly in half.

Meaning that it will become an instant projectile, or not? Lol
I like the brand, but not enough to stare at my wife’s Opel forehead tattoo for the rest of my life 😂

That would certainly add a new dimension to the phrase 'trade mark'. To minimize the projectile aspect would depend on how well attached to the air bag cover it is. I would advise against steel rivets and instead suggest 3M Auto Exterior Attachment tape (double-sided foam)--that and please try to avoid real world testing...
