Mine came open a few times had the new relay installed, but now every so often the trunk will not close, I have to press button twice then close the trunk the dealer is puzzled they also replaced the latch. anyone else have this problem?
Hi James@@,

I am sorry to hear that this new relay installation has formulated a new issue with your vehicle! I would be happy to call your dealership and speak with them about options for you. Would you mind sending me a private message with your name, address, phone number, VIN, vehicle mileage, and name of involved dealership?

I have had this happen to me twice since Aug 2012 and it was before I had the relay changed....I didn't think much of it as it happened with my Monte Carlo trunk as well.

I have not had that happen to my car.

Unfortunatley for me, no one at my local dealership has heard of this problem. So I have to bring my Verano in, have the tech spend an hour checking for a service bulletin, then they will make a decision on whether they will do anything about it. I brought them all of the info from this forum, which they don't beleive, (can't blame them with all the fraud on the internet these days) so looks like I'll pay for an hours worth of labor and a relay, I assuming the worst here....guess I could just order the relay from parts dept. put it in myself and be done with it.

There is a TSB for the relay. Contact CSR here and then go the dealership and ask again telling them you have already been in contact with Buick Customer Service.

Thanks Norm I appreciate that info, but I still need to convince them the CSR's on this site are real, they don't beleive anything, it's really kind of funny how they have this "we don't trust anyone/anything" attitude.

Why would you have to pay an hours labor? It's a warranty issue.

just have to run thru the process, they have to do what they have to do. I guess in the end they will see that it is a waranty issue. like I said, they have never seen this issue before, so they have to "learn" about it.

Hello!

I would be happy to assist. The vehicle will first need to be diagnosed at your dealership, which it sounds like you are in the process of doing. If you could provide me with your VIN either publicly or through a private message, I can look at your vehicle specifics. Thank you!

To summarize: I have had an ongoing problem of 2 years duration with my trunk opening on its own on my 2011 and 2013 Regals (the 2013 Regal was a replacement provided by GM at no cost to me when they couldn't solve the problem on the 2011 Regal). The 2-push did not solve the problem, neither did a 2-second hold on the trunk release button on the fob. After extensive testing with GM, they provided me with a custom fob that had the trunk release switch removed from the fob. The problem is no more. The conclusion is the fobs were emitting sporadic trunk release signals without pressing the trunk release button on the fobs. I had this problem on all 6 fobs for the 2011 and 2013 Regals, so the problem is over a range of fobs.

Sounds like the fob on my Encore. The rear ligtgate has a touch pad and opens when the doors are unlocked. At least GM worked something out for your situation. Do you know if the fob is the same as the Verano and Encore?

I to have been having the phantom trunk openings. I contacted dealer when I was getting my oil changed. They ordered a part and it will be installed soon. I will report back when the part is installed.

At least the new relay appears to have fixed most people's issue. I had the relay changed and there was no change to my car. How can a tech not check the new relay... push dash/key fob button once... does trunk still open... yes... duh... problem not fixed. I didn't bother going back. I guess I will at next service.

Well, my trunk has been open a few times and I swear I did not push the trunk button, but I obviously did unknowingly. Lucky, it did not rain in my trunk.

Sooooooooooo, now there is a bulletin out to have this issue fixed and it is covered by warranty. The fix is to replace the trunk relay. You will have to press your trunk key twice within three seconds to open the trunk. It is for both the fob and trunk button inside the car on the dash.

Just waiting for my part to arrive.

I've seen a bunch of threads about this problem. It's as annoying as it can get. Mine opened twice at night in the rain giving me a trunk full of water in the morning. I had the relay change after it happened the first time. It makes it harder to open the trunk when you want to because apparently the timing has to be pretty accurate. If you press too fast or too slow it doesn't open. And with the button on the trunk you have to press it a bunch of times to get it to register two presses with the right timing. But it didn't fix the problem because here I am, draining the trunk again.

The key fob and manual say you have to press and hold the button to open the trunk, but the original relay would pop the trunk with the slightest brush across the key fob. It took me a while to convince the dealer that was a problem and they finally got tired of me and gave me the new "two press" relay. I'd prefer to have the correct one that required a press and hold.

At this point I am pulling everything out of the trunk again to dry it out including the spare tire, padding, sound proofing, etc. I think the fastest way to dry it out is to pour 5 gallons of gas in the trunk and toss in a match.

The previous design key fobs had recessed buttons for unlock and trunk and this was never an issue.

I have another fix I am testing - I pried open the key fob and broke the trunk button off of it. If it opens again I'm cutting the wires to the switch on the trunk door.
