Lift gate opening on its own

Have a 23 Avenir with 5k, opened garage door other morning and it stopped. Found liftgate open against door. Scratched the hell out of lower liftgate. Not happy. Wondering if water related. Washed with pressure washer 2 days before. Dealer checking out Thursday. I work at dealership and A-tech is inspecting. Will let you know results.

Please do! I have a 23 Avenir (11k) as well. Hasn't acted up yet.

After reading on this form and the other forums, I decided to do a little investigating for myself. I have a friend of mine that works at a dealership I'm not going to say where I don't want him getting in trouble, but I called the dealership where I purchased mine from and they told me they've never heard of this happening. Similar to what everybody else is posting. We looked up part numbers on the switch and it turns out the switch that is on the 2021 Enclave and similar models is the same tailgate release switch that is on the Chevrolet Silverados and GMC Sierras of similar years. Now General Motors knows this is a problem so they issued a recall and won't let dealerships sell any used Silverados or Sierras until their tailgate switch is fixed but they won't do a recall on the other models. It turns out the new part won't be available at most dealerships until sometime in September. The new part number that is replacing the old part number is going to be.... GM Switch part # 85641400. What the dealerships are doing that customers don't know, when they bring their vehicles in for this similar issue they're basically disconnecting the switch that's up above the license plate and telling them that when the replacement part comes in they will send them a new one. Apparently disconnecting this switch, unplugging it from behind the trim panels which, you have to basically remove the interior panel and then take off the exterior chrome trim which was not fun, will prevent it from opening and closing on its own. I just did this today and I will update but I managed to find the part number on eBay from a genuine GM supplier. Hope this helps somebody

Sorry for delay. Dealership replaced liftgate switch above license plate. Switch has been updated. The mystery opening happened after power washing vehicle which very likely got water in switch causing opening. GM will pay for paint repair on liftgate damage by garage door. No problems since.

2018 Buick Enclave. Intermittently opening on its own when car is off. In garage over night, while I’m in a store, etc. brought to Buick twice with no result. First time they shut off the foot sensor, now they’ve completely shut off the button on the door.
I had same issue when I first got my Buick and found out it was my FOB and battery. Canadian tire sells universal Fobs, I think I paid around $25. You would need to keep the board from your original FOB and place into new FOB as your key is chipped and programmed to that board. Not sure of technical name for it. Also check to make sure that there is nothing in the way of the sensors around the gate that may trigger it to open, anything that may cause interference. Hope something here helps.

We have the 2023 Buick Enclave Avenir. 12,000 miles. We have had this random tailgate opening AND closing since we bought it. They just replaced the "tailgate module" and said it was fixed. Yesterday, and we have this on video, the tailgate opened on its own and tried to close on my wife as she was loading the car. This is dangerous flaw. We will continue to try to get support from the Buick.

The dealer told me I’m the “first person in Buick history this has ever happened to”. They had it for days waiting to hear back from Buick technical service on a solution and got nothing. How do I get a copy of the technical service bulletins?!
This is currently happening to my mom's.

We struggled getting this issue fixed. Took about 60 days in the shop. It was crazy..The tailgate would randomly open and then other time randomly close when putting things in the back. They ended up replacing all the modules that control the lift gate. Haven't had a problem since.
