myBuick app update issues

Same here. If I actually had a "ASS disable module" or a Trifecta Tune installed it would make sense but mine is a stocker and daily driven.
That is messed up (the app).
I mean, I can understand mine is not driven. But if it is also happening to yours being driven daily, that is not acceptable (the app).

Anybody still having the issue of the app telling you that something is plugged into the diagnostic port when nothing is?

It is even showing up on my monthly vehicle reports that OnStar sends me. 😡:thumbsdow🤬

There is something to be said about simplifying your life. Using the key fob to start the car and not even having an app on my smartphone is the way I roll. Alas, is it possible to use the phone as a backup in case you lose your key? My other GM vehicle will allow a remote start and unlock using an app, but it won’t let you drive the car away until it senses a key fob. My other car’s remote start capability will cease to work after the 5 year onstar basic subscription expires. I’ve already jettisoned the app as part of my declutter life hack.

To each his own. The app does more than remote start and remote lock/unlock. Sending destination to the GPS and Vehicle Locate are features I find useful and occasionally review the owner's manual.

Again, if having a problem at least on the Android OS check the Google Playstore on reviews as it may reflect current updates and problems across all vehicles and user's.

About the app vs remote key fob though.
Pretty sure the range is vastly different. 😛

I had the same issue. I had to reconnect the app to my OnStar by turning the car on and reopening the app. After that, the commands were sent. I hope this helps.

I’ve been using the app on iPhone since June. No issues. In regards to the app vs FOB, one of our plants is over a mile long. After hiking thru a 90+ Or sub zero parking lot, day the last thing I want is bake or freeze when I get to my car. It may not be worth it for all, but I’m stoked to have it.

When I used to park a half mile away to get to a charging station (a drove a Chevy volt daily before the pandemic allowed me to work from home), I used the remote app and it was hit or miss. I originally used the Onstar App and it worked every time. It wasn’t until they morphed into MyCheverolet/ MyBuick/ MyCadillac that the stuff got buggy for me, so I stopped using it because I no longer needed it. I would actually point the key fob at the fleshy part of my chin and it would start from pretty far away. It works, and the theory is that having a bag of mostly water nearby helps RF range.

I hear you on the key fob. I use to be a chin pincher as well. Honda fobs have atrocious range. So I had to walk around looking like I was popping pimps all the time. Now I’m all like 😎 and stuff. On another note. I am happy to see the increased work from home protocols. My yearly miles had a minimum 34,000 with one topping out at just over 43,000. They’re in the process of reevaluating the hours allowed. I’m hoping for a minimal impact.

Ours work exactly as you described your other GM vehicle. The fob is still required to drive away, but it's still handy to have the app as a backup for locking/unlocking, navigation, owners manual, etc.

I used to drive over 22k miles per year, but last year I was lucky to drive 2k miles. But I was already working from home in a new role before the pandemic. With so many miles per year, it seems like you need more vehicles. One to put the miles on and a nice one to have and to hold til death do us part.

I often wonder who figured out that holding the fob against your chin, increases transmission range. I heard about that many, many years ago and it definitely works. Never heard the theory of having water nearby had an effect, though. I just assumed that since there's nothing much inside my noggin, the RF signal just got amplified as it reflected off the back of my empty skull🤣🤣

I learned about this in the early 80s from my college roommate’s brother. But this chap explains the science behind it

Well I'll be damned, it really is bouncing of the wet grey matter in my head!💦😱💦He did a great job explaining the physics behind it. Makes perfect sense.

Also, I was today years old when I learned that it's not the Remote, or a Key Fob, it's a Central Unlocking Device, (that explains why they can charge so much for them at the dealership, LOL)

Okay so I finally updated the myBuick app on my iPhone (rarely updated since I installed back in '18 or so). I guess it is 100% worthless now unless you have an OnStar plan? I recall being able to locate my car in the past with the app when at a concert or some other massive car park...and also being able to see the owner's manual inside the app. Now you have to pay like $14/month? App also tells me the owner's manual is "Content not available for your vehicle at this time." WTH.

Can anyone confirm this info is correct, or am I missing something? Thanks.

I would contend that Onstar was worthless even during the free trial. GM should really make Onstar free then add features like restaurant recommendations and collect ad money from the restaurants. Think of it, the infotainment system has internet connectivity, why not have an app like gas buddy or Yelp, but more tightly integrated with the navigation? The app could be somewhat automatic, sensing how much fuel is left to guide you to a fuel station or pop up a restaurant recommendation as you near meal time. If you drive near a shopping center or mall, it could help direct you to specific stores depending on what you are looking for.

The app is absolute garbage since the update. I never paid for it as I can remote start from the fob, but I used to like the smart driver feature to see the length of trips and calculate mileage. Now 85% of the time it gives the old “data not available.” They have so many dismal reviews after the recent updates, you’d think they would try to fix them, but it just gets worse.
