If it's like the ones from way back in the 60's and 70's, push it all the way in, then push some more (carefully, but with enough pressure). It might click into position.

The old ones like that let you remove the button with the metal shaft attached by pulling it all the way out, then pressing a small button on the underside of the switch to release it. Reinstalling was a simple action. Insert it into the opening, then press a little more until it clicked into the fully-installed position.

The one in my 2005 has 2 buttons that you press to operate the lights: Parking (on the bottom) and Headlights (on the top), along with 2 sliders to control other stuff. When you press Headlights, it turns on the parking lamps by internally "pressing" the Parking button for you. Pressing only the Parking button turns on the parking lamps. When the lights turned are on at night by the light sensor, pressing the Parking button turns the headlights off, unless the Headlight switch itself is also pressed in. It's a convoluted way of controlling something so simple. I hate mine!
This one is
All the way in = off
Pull out once = running lights, side lights, license plate lights, etc
Pull out 2nd click = headlights

Not sure how the auto function works
If I leave it all the way pulled out and turn the car off. It starts chiming, letting me know the lights are still on.

Does your car even have the auto option?
Confirmed it does tonight

Can’t get the brights off
During the day, I can pull the stalk back and it engages the brights (won’t stay on unless I hold it)
But when I pull it when the lights are on, nothing

I’m afraid it may be the stalk switch

Your next step may be to swap out the stalk and see if that solves your issue.

It’s a bear, have to remove steering wheel
Just called my mechanic, he said he would do it, will quote me shortly
Dorman makes a replacement that still readily available, so that’s nice

I think I’m gojng to tackle the ac display myself, saw some videos on it, looks like it’s just soldering a few resistors

I can see why the door handles break
Heavy door and little handle

Also, my seal seems to be really good on the driver side, meaning, it takes some effort to the door open
Which is nice, as the ride is super quiet
But , probably not good for the handle
So, I’m going to put a light coat of silicone grease on it and wd40 the hinges

Edit: mechanic wants $350 to replace the multi function switch , gonna have to bite the bullet as I’m not willing to do it
Another $280 for the part
And need new tires, that’s another $700
So I’m in this for about $5k now
I think I could market/sell it for that if I wanted to

Just realized my dumbass grabbed the green coolant vs the dexcool, when filling the reservoir tank
Have the green stuff for my Lexus’s , forgot about the dexcool(it was behind my shelf)

So since I have to do a flush now, went ahead and ordered a new tension assembly and metal elbows, will do it all at once
Haven’t driven it since I added the incorrect fluid so hoping it hadn’t gel’ed too much
