My spare tire came yesterday from Stups and even though I double checked all the dimensions you never know.
It came off a 11 Caddy DTS and was supposed to be used but looks brand new to me,tried it on the back and front and it fits great $80 for a 125 70/R17 with Jack and Lug Wrench! Good deal,I'll be heading out to Denver soon, and I won't travel w/o a spare ever again

How many flat tires have you had in the last five years?

Bout 4 or 5 a year... x 5 years... so 20-25. Knock on wood only 2 in my personal vehicle... but that's enough. Carrying a spare just makes sense.
Do you work near construction sites? Why so many?

I'm up to 10 or 11 ever since I got the TourX (2 years ago). Before that? Once every 3 years. Driving habits and area have not changed in the past 25 years.

Getting ready to fix another that I have had to add air daily lately.

I've been fortunate that I have not needed to throw my spare tire on, but I'm very glad that I have the spare.

I get a flat on average once every couple years. I carry a plug kit, the factory supplied goop kit and the temporary spare. I frequently take road trips from Florida to my place in North Carolina and prefer to travel on back roads versus interstates, I don't want to have to wait for help in the middle of nowwhere for a flat tire.

I prefer to be as prepared as possible, but I opted to get the wheel and tire protection program through Buick since the GS has 19 inch wheels (soon to be 20). Yeah, I am paying something every month, but knowing the tire or wheel will be replaced if damaged with no questions asked is comforting, They also offer 24/7 towing.

Again, I'd rather be able to slap on a spare myself and get back on the road. But, with as many tires as some of you are going through, the wheel and tire protection would seem to be a perfect fit.

i only have a flat every couple of years between 3 cars, no flat on my 2016 Mazda3 yet, but I do drive in the boonies a bit with limited or no cell service and I did not want to depend on tire goo and an inflator to keep going. Several of my flats have been " destroyed tire" types such as a 70 mph quick deflate, not blowout, in my Acura, but tire was shredding and coming off rim by the time I got stopped.

So does GM brand show an GM 18" space saver spare that will fit in the spare tire area)assuming I remove the styrafoam inserts)that I can find at a junk yard?

Here's link to the GM temp spare wheel (without tire) that fits. Look at the fitment table and from there you can see some of the other cars that share the same temp spare . With that information you can find a used spare from one of those vehicles. Or buy the wheel new and buy a tire to go on it but most people go the used spare route since it is usually cheaper. 2017-2020 GM Spare Wheel 84095141 | GMPartsDirect.com

I finally found a spare at the local U-Pull-It salvage yard.
15 years old but looked spanking new (still has whiskers) in an 06 Cadillac DTS.
Got the spare, jack, lug wrench/jack handle, two cargo nets, and some interior trim for a friends car. All for $35!
Definitely a bargain, but I worked for it. The trunk on the DTS was shut, so I had to go through the back seat and pull the anti-kidnap handle to open it. That was an ordeal!
I now find out that the supplied air pump that uses the continental goo is a one-time-use item! The bottle locks itself to the pump and the goo seals the air hose!
I am very glad I have an actual spare and will carry a cheap pump and a repair kit from WalMart.

New guy here, seems like a friendly and helpful site, so here's my first request for help!

My Dad has a 2019 Regal Avenir sportback and he's wanting to get a spare that fits in the hatch well space. The Avenir has 19" wheels so he realizes this can't be a full size spare.

I've read this entire thread and I don't see where Avenir with 19" wheels is specifically addressed, unless I missed it.

Can anyone definitively tell me what will work as a spare as well as fit in the well? (I realize there might be a tire and wheel that works on the rear of the car but not the front, but that's OK, just means if you get a front flat you have to put the spare on the rear and move the rear to the front).

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dave

No, I don't think it's called out anywhere but no worries. The Avenir is one of the lesser common trims but here's all you need to know...

The Avenir uses the same 19" wheel as the GS (different finish obviously). Everything else about the suspension/brakes/drivetrain is the same as the other FWD Regals. The 18", and even 17", wheels are still compatible with the Avenir.

Can anyone definitively tell me what will work as a spare as well as fit in the well?
Any spare that's mentioned to work in this thread, whether it's for a Sportback or TourX, will fit your father's Avenir.

These posts show the best options: 16, 42, 44, 50, 71-72, 81, 146, 156, and 158.

Seems I need to learn a lot about the similarities and differences between the models!
Thanks for the prompt replies!
Dave
