Space Saver Spare Tire Size TourX Essence

Scroll back to my post #73 - I posted photos of how I did it. There is plenty of room.
Thanks. I saw your post but was curious how GM does it from the factory in Australia on the Holden.

Can you show how the jack and tools are stored with the Factory spare tire?
Here you go mate, now Im curious the accessories you get ie air compressor etc..

@Holden Calais V Interesting where they decided to place the jack, etc. Thanks for the pics. Nice they gave you a tow hook. What is the strap for in your Boot 3 image? Also noticed you have hidden storage on the left side of by the tail light (boot 6 image)? What does it look like behind that access panel? I'm assuming that Holden offered as AWD only?

If factory is supplying a small spare for the Holden (presumably AWD), I certainly feel better about using my 125/17/70 spare in a less-than armageddon situation.

Hi Mate, ok the strap from what I can tell is to tie down loose cargo in the boot (trunk) as we only have 4 x hooks with no rails. The Left hand storage behind is actually our battery location as the V6 Takes up considerable room in the engine bay. We do have a connection point in the engine bay should you need to jump start the car. We are lucky enough to have an optional Sports wagon model which is available in 2L Turbo Petrol and Diesel , (LT and RS) or the RS-V which is AWD V6. Then there is the Calais Tourer or Calais-V Tourer, AWD V6 only. The small spare is used across the board.

Those pictures were super helpful. Is there any chance you can find a part number on the foam that houses the jack? That would be super helpful to keep the jack from moving around. Thank you!

I’ve read through this thread and I’m still not sure about the best spare tire setup for a GS. I have an 18” spare in my ‘13 GS but I measured the well of an ‘18 GS and I’m not sure it would fit. That makes me wonder if it is ok to run a 17” spare with 19” wheels on the car. Certainly won’t fit in front.

I got a spare out of a Lucerne just like the one shown below. It just barely rubs the front caliper but plenty of room in the back. I mean barely. I thought about taking a grinder to the wheel and remove about a 1/4" wide area about 1/32" deep from each spoke but decided (for several reasons) that it would be much easier to just buy a 5/115 spacer plate like the one at this link. 2 Pc WHEEL SPACERS UNIVERSAL 5 LUG 5/16" THICK FITS MANY VEHICLE FREE SHIPPING | eBay

Does anyone know a reason why this wouldn't work? I plan on just throwing it in the well with the wheel and hope I never have to use it. BTW, on a 2018 tour X this wheel fits with no problem in the well and has room to spare for a jack and other things. Speakers goes right back where it was.

Thoughts on the temporary use of the plate with the spare on the front? Really dont want to have to change two tires on the side of the road to get moving again.

Is that the 5-spoke wheel? Alloy, I think I read somewhere?

That's good information. There looks to be plenty of clearance with the steel wheel.
Yeah, it's this black alloy wheel:

It was drivable for a few miles. If I had to do more than five miles on it, I think I'd opt for a tow.

The only issue I could see is that you will likely lose you hubcentric fit. But if you torque the bolts properly (right order) you should have no problems. I have been using wheels on my wife's truck for years with an oversized bore and have had no vibrations. Besides, even if it is slightly off, you likely won't feel it unless you are going really fast and you shouldn't be doing that on a spare.

Thanks for the reply. I'm also wondering if adding the 5/16" would effect the length of the lugs. 3/16" is probably enough thickness but not sure if it matters. I have no intention of driving any further with this silly looking spare then necessary and definitely not very fast

Once again, this is what they have on Holden Commodore from the factory. Exactly the same doughnut,as many members put together on their own.

I found there was some flashing on the front calipers that interfered with the spare wheel. It was easily removed and the spare wheel fit without problem.
Will this work on a GS? Perhaps on rear wheel only??

Hello all, I have read almost all of the post on here in regards to the spare tire issue. Having a spare tire is important to me. I may never use it, I also have AAA, but you never know when the time comes and you wish you had a spare.
I ordered the jack from GM- part #23455285, I bought a 19mm ratcheting wrench, bought a gorilla breaker bar, that comes with the necessary accessories to remove the lug nuts. Now here is where things got tricky. I read that the spare from a DTS 2005 gen will work. I bought one for $50 and it came with a brand new, never used conti tire. 125/70/17. I installed the rim on the front, dropped the car down, and it rubbed on the caliper. So this did not work. Im sure it fits the back just fine, but not the front. So I bought a spare from a 2018 Equinox, same as a 2018 Impala part #560-08121 or cross reference 84095141, tire size 125/70/17. Just got it today, paid $80 shipped. It worked perfect. Drove the car up and down the street, no issues. The tire is much thinner and obviously lower than stock, so the car does lean. But its a spare, so im figuring 20-25 miles driving to get to a safer or better area, or off the highway its perfect. I had more than enough room to put the jack and the other tools in the spare tire wheel well. And the sub fits perfectly just like factory.
I hope this helps someone out. Total cost $142

Picked up our "new" spare donut at a local You Pick and Pull used parts yard. Found this in the trunk of a 2009 Caddy DTS. 17" steel rim with a 120/70R17 Continental tire on it. $18 and about a 10 minute search. Test fit on the front and it clears the brake caliper but it does. A short test ride and it seems to work fine. My only worry if the tire is a 2008. 12 year old rubber looks new and shows no signs of cracking. I will look into replacing the tire just for piece of mind. But for $18 I can't complain. Definitely would stick to 50mph or less and would only use it to get to a tire shop.
A tenet of ours left behind a BMW 3 series jack. That works also. Need to go to Harbor Freight and buy a folding lug wrench. I am pretty sure this will all fit in the wheel well. Will know later.
Love a bargain.

That's a great deal! Congrats, the tools, jack, etc will fit with no issues. I ended up putting some bubble wrap under the front of the tire in the wheel well. I didn't like how there was a slight rock back and forth. I also cut out a piece of card board and laid the spare on top of it so it wasn't metal on metal.
