Space Saver Spare Tire Size TourX Essence

CORRECTION: I thought I read here that a '14 Impala spare would fit our cars. It won't. Looks like '00-'13 has same 5x115 bolt pattern but I think the spare is only 16" for those. Back to the 'yard I go. Just wanted to post so nobody makes same mistake I did.
CORRECTION v2: I was right in my original find (which has sat in my garage the past 2 years!)...I read the first bit of this thread today, and the '14 Impala spare is 5-spoke wheel 9594807 which according to those testing it (thanks @Wlepse and co) does indeed fit the TourX (caveat: recommended to put on rear for brake caliper clearance, or remove flashing on front caliper per another forum comment). Fortunately I've not had any flats since I last posted above! The spare tire and wheel look brand new; I put about 20lbs of air to get it to the recommended 60psi. Also, found a primo jack/wrench from a salvage yard Caddy.

Put down a couple of old t-shirts as rattle barrier, and a trash bag on top of that as moisture barrier. Wrap jack and wrench in trash bag, store on the side. All fits perfectly with sub inside spare.

Thanks to this forum I was able to get all that I needed for this project (plus many other great tips/tricks/deals for others)...another worthy reason to support it with a paid membership of only $20/year...total investment in spare kit: about $25. Thanks again, folks.

Nice deal! I paid more but it was worth the piece of mind...not to mention local yards didn't have anything so getting it shipped to my door was a bonus.
I like browsing my local yard. They listed several options to choose from that fit our TourX.

You guys certainly seem to have a better selection of space saver spares. I've been thinking of doing the same but not sure what if any of locally sold models of vehicles will fit. The scissor jack shouldn't be a problem just the wheel. Ebay prices are eye watering. $270NZD or $185USD, OUCH!!!!!!!!!

Good deal. 15 year old tire. I know it’s been in a trunk but still might consider changing it and valve stem out.
Sooo, what you're saying is, if you owned a car for 15 years, kept your spare secured and inspected it annually, you'd buy a new tire and stem? Because my spare in my 2005 Volvo V50 still looks good and performs as it should as a spare.
Sarcasm detected I hope.

Even a tire stored away degrades over time and them often suggest replacement in the 8-10 year range. It could be it has been replaced already, but I am not sure if spares use the same date coding as regular passenger tires. I would carefully inspect it and look for any signs of cracking etc and if in doubt go to a tire shop and have it replaced. It would really suck to think you have a back up and find it isn't up to the task and you have two flats.

What is the diameter of the required spare-wheel's "inner hub hole" (apologies, my brain is not coming up with the proper term for that right now)?

I was given a spare wheel with tire, jack, etc - it fits in the well for storage (with subwoofer), but that inner spare-wheel hole has been reported as too small to put the spare wheel on the car

Only one way to find out, try putting the spare on your front wheel (which has larger brakes) and check the clearance. I’ve been told that my existing Cadillac CTS spare and Jack should work just fine, but I have yet to test it out.

Well, no luck finding a spare today. The U Pull It yard had several 15” and 16” spares. The only 17” spare I saw was on the front of a 2007 Cadillac DTS and it had quite a bit of rust on it.

There’s another parts yard across the river, so I might try there tomorrow.

Good thing I got the spare. I needed it!
Scrubbed a curb while parking and ripped open the sidewall.
It was in a part of town where the curbs are a foot tall solid concrete with 16-penny nails and shark teeth embedded.
The fixit goo was not going to plug this hole.
The spare and jack I have is a 17” from a 06 Cadillac DTS.
It fit over the front caliper With only a few millimeters to spare.
I drove gently across town to get it dealt with. No scraping or transmission noises or difficulty steering. The only warning message on the DIC was low tire pressure!

Thank you. I'm wondering about the diameter of the small hole on the center of the wheel, (about 2" or so?)

I think the hub bore is 70.2mm but I am sure someone else can confirm this.

I ran into the limit for attached photos, so this is the conclusion to the story (above).

These are the numbers that appear on the 17x4 spare wheel

And this is the tire size - T125/70R17
View attachment 17426

This shows everything in position except the towel is not folded around the jack yet

The annotated photo showing where everything ended up. I was able to find a place for all the new tools as well as the original equipment inflator and flat-fix "goop".

These are the left-overs. On the left the foam carrier for the jack and tools that I got from the salvage yard, on the right the original foam insert that held the sub-woofer, the inflator, and the bottle of Continental Slime.

Thanks for all your help. the 2010 - 2017 (supposedly) Equinox / Terrain tire I found is 145/70/17 instead of 125/70/17 you found Is taht to be expected or are you using different year's tire. Is your jack set from a different car or can you use the Equinox jack set also? I found one on line with tire and jack from Equinox but tire is slightly wider and then taller since both are 70 series

I see you found a place for the subwoofer after all. You did such a stellar job placing everything, I almost did not see it. DUHH I must be blind or blonde Thank you for the schematic and plan

This worked best for our '18 Preferred.
🙂

I haven't been able to find anything second hand here yet. I decided to check out the new price from the dealer. $555NZD plus 15% tax just for the rim, still need to add a tyre. Four times the new price I see it advertised for in the US. The jack is "only" $224NZD plus tax.

We get utterly ripped off over here for spare parts. It's no wonder there's such a big market for privately importing this sort of stuff.
