Sunshade fell apart

The story continues... My replacement shade broke during installation.

I've been without my TourX for 4 out of the past 6 weeks. Even with reservations made by the dealer, Enterprise couldn't supply me with a rental because they weren't able to reserve a GM vehicle even 3 days after the reservation. Finally, with some complaining, they put me in a Camry SE.

At this point, I've been told the part is available but they cannot tell me it has been shipped from the warehouse. My patience is wearing thin.

Just got a call from the dealer yesterday, hopefully your plight wont be mine. Trying to hammer out a good appointment date at the moment.

Took two days, but the new shade seems to work fine and they didn't damage the headliner or anything,,tech said the design sucks compared to the shades in Buick suvs!

Thanks. A couple of days ago, the dealer advised that they were tired of waiting for the warehouse in Michigan and located a shade in WV. That unit apparently was shipped Thursday, so my fingers are crossed that I get the car back in just a few more days.

The dealer; I believe, said that they complained like hell about the design to GM. They are concerned about installing the new one and will put an additional employee on the re-install.

...tech said the design sucks compared to the shades in Buick suvs!

I wonder if others think the same . is there really a difference? Is it because it's being designed for lower-profile constraint?

When the tech say the Buick SUV, did they mean the cheap manual operating spring-loaded one on the Enclave?

Not sure, I should have asked for an better explanation, but Buick really has only three SUVs

For 2021.
Encore: Manual shade, non-pano roof.
Encore GX: Power shade, pano roof.
Envision: Power shade, pano roof.
Enclave: Manual spring loaded shade, 2 piece roof.

Not sure if it was some kind of design change for the better but GM shows the current part supersedes a previous part number. Unfortunately the sunshade only
comes up as fitting the TourX.

Crap. I pick up the car tomorrow, finally. I hope they installed the new version.

Turned mine on on Friday (Dec 17) and haven't heard a word back. My friend loaned me his Raptor to drive around so Im not sweating it. Its probably taking longer because they may be repairing my front bumper that I pointed out when I turned it in. The grill is detaching on the bottom from the bumper and it caused that little plastic piece on the passenger side to pop off somewhere on the road.

That is the famous tow hook cover with nothing to tow with.

I've gotta say, so far the replacement sunshade they put in is quieter and seems to work better than the original one.

Been in the shop for a month then got got a phone call today as it is due for pickup.

As they buttoned everything up and went to test run the new shade then bunched up and failed. I feel bad for the techs that get to work on that. I feel their ire from here. Anyway parts are again TBD. I've asked them just to rip it out and button the car up until a new one comes in and as I don't need a sun shade for at least awhile and am tired of driving the sad squirrely Versa rental they gave me.

So my saga continues.

Glad my TourX has a roof with the only issue being debris getting under roof rails. I have a couple vehicles with sunroofs I never use, compared to a couple vehicles with tops that go down or can be removed that I do use.
Although storage of removed targa top from coupe is a complete different issue.

That's incredibly frustrating. If the sun is bothering you while you are waiting on the part, I would look into getting the sunroof tinted with ceramic tint to block out some sun and heat.

It continues. Back in the shop for the third time as the new sun shade came in. Dealer deemed it defective and had ANOTHER sent in. This is sunshade number 4, I believe. Car has been in the shop for about three weeks now. I haven't heard back from the dealer.

They provided me a rental which all they had was a Jeep Gladiator. I don't know how people daily these things. Its useless. I cant put anything in the shallow bed without worry it'll fly out. Its also falling apart at 33k miles. Granted, rental miles are always hard but I'd be proper angry paying $40k for one of these things. Windshield seal has failed causing whistling, driver sun shade falls out its mount (blocking my view while driving), the chrome trim around the center of the steering wheel has worn off, and the rear defrost doesn't work. All of that and it has a crap stereo that doesn't even have car play. I will admit I see the appeal of taking top off... but that's only good for sunny days where you wont bake.

Puts some of these Regal woes into perspective I suppose!

Got the call. It’s ready. I’ll pick it up tomorrow. They said it’s been a nightmare with this mechanism. They had to take pics to send to GM to show side by side to show the one shade was defective. Interestingly enough, service said the mechanism is the same found in some Cadillacs and are having the same problems.

We as TourX owners are stupid lucky to have a wagon so they don’t have to remove a back glass to pull the headliner out.

Im inclined at this point just to never use it again because im so close to warranty ending it’ll fail on my dime. When (not if, I’ve lost confidence in it completely) it fails again im taking it out and putting the darkest tint I can get.

Car picked up. Three visits, 4 sunshades, and the dealer passes this off to me. When opening it, it tries to climb into the head liner. When closing it it stops short.

Now I’ve been very patient and understand the circumstances and various deltas to this. But I’m beginning to get very pissed off. I don’t know where to go from here.
