These pics are for anyone who is curious or might be confused on how to wire up a tach using the a13 pin on the PCM. I didnt know if there was a thread that included pics, so I made some up so everyone will have a better idea of what to do now. Note: the pin required for the wire up can be purchased at any GM parts dealer. Item # 12084913. I would order two of them just incase you mess up have fun..

Thanks for posting this Matt!

We need more stickies for this forum.

That other forum isn't always up! 😉

p.s. This is the post I used to hook up my tach. Thanks again! 🙂

Have any of you guys mounted tachs? I'd like to see what you've done and how it looks on your dash.

Here's mine in an Autometer triple A-pillar pod:

It's the triple 2" pod.

The triple pod with the 2 5/8 bottom pod will hit the dash on a RM.

Matt helped me with my gauge pod choice as well as the tach hookup instructions.

yes the 2 5/8 bottom pod will hit unless you trim some off the top of the pillar pod and the bottom. It will require fiberglass and bondo work. Mine was my first experience working with the stuff, and needless to say isn't the best of work. If I get a chance, I will go back an redo it.

Stupid question #1: If you have a '96, what is the proper way to hook up a tach? Splice into the wire coming out of this connector or go under the dash and splice into the connector above the throttle pedal? Also, where is the best place to splice into for the light and power wires?

no they're not?

Sorry I meant the pics of the tach mounted in the car.

Oh, of Roadmonsters setup. Yea, he deleted his cardomain page, I think thats where they were linked from. Here is one shot of his setup.

Nice! Did they just use a pillar pod for an Impala?

yes, but be advised you have to use the one with all 2 1/16" gauges as the one with the 2 5/8" bottom hole like mine requires A LOT OF modifcation to fit.

Where are the modifications needed? Where it meets at the bottom? the top?
And does anyone have one mounted on the dash or the steering column, or somewhere else entirely?

You pretty much have to cut some off the top, and a lot off the bottom to move the mount up on the a pillar as the RMS dash is taller in that area than a caprice/ss. Then have to fiberglass over it, or youll have a huge gap. That's one thing I wasn't proud of was mounting that to the pillar, as my filling skills at the time sucked major poopo. You can only see it from the window if you look at it close enough.

is this same install for a 94 caprice?
