I've finally purchased the 3 Components to Upgrade to the
Car Play /
Android Auto Option.
Spent many many Hours looking for the HMI & Radio Modules I needed at a Reasonable Price.
I now have all 3 pieces but will have to wait until Next Month to Send them away for Programming.
I did however Remove and Install the New USB Port today.
Mine had the SD Card Reader and this Upgrade supposedly doesn't work with the USB that has the SD Card Reader (hate loosing the SD Reader (but I'll live with it).
Without tearing the Center Console apart, this was not an easy task!
There are Small Slots on the Two Sides of the USB Ports, (I'm sure there is s special tool) to press and Release the Tabs that lock the USB Ports in Place.
Anyway, I don't have that Special Tool (whatever it is)!
I ended up making my own Tool to be able to reach in that Very Small Compartment the USB Ports sits in and Release those Tabs.
Once I was finally able to release those tabs I pulled the old USB Ports out and Unplugged them (yet another difficult task).
Now the Next Problem arose, the Wires with the Plugs were barely long enough to pull the USB Port up and release the Plugs.
When I did release them they fell back into the Hole I was pulling the USB Ports out of.
I ended up using a Long Grabbing Tool to reach the Wires that had fallen into the Hole.
Took me forever, but I was finally able to get the Two Plugs Plugged into the New USB/AUX Port. Below is a Picture of a Grabbing Tool similar to the one I used.
Wish I had Purchased a Grabber Tool with an LED Light Built in!
I'm figuring that Putting in this USB Port took me about 2 Hours.
The first hours was trying to figure out how to release the Tabs to pull the USB Ports Out and then finally making a Tool to do it with (just no room to work in and very little space for a Tool).
The Second Hour was getting the Old USB Port Out and the New USB Port In.
Wasn't easy with the Short Wires and the Limited space for your fingers.
Can't wait the first of next month.
I can send my HMI and Radio Modules away for Programming.
I will go out and buy a Set of The Plastic Trim Removing Tools while it's away.
That way I won't damage any of the Trim Pieces during the Upgrade!
I also put in a set of the Buick Emblem Ghost Shadow Lights in today (in the Pouring Rain).
I'm so sick of Rain, Rained Thursday, Friday (Dry on Saturday), Rained Sunday and Monday and they are saying rain for tomorrow (Tuesday) too!
The Ghost Shadow Lights were very easy to install, only took about 2 minutes per side.
Biggest problem is that they weren't marked as to which side they should go (most I've seen Online have an R and L on them, but mine didn't).
I plugged the first in and the emblem was upside down, I had to remove it and replace with the other Ghost Light.
Since I was installing them in the Daytime, I had to Place my Hand Under the Light to see which direction it was pointing.
I didn't push it into the Opening until I was sure the Light was working and that I had it facing the right direction!
Went out a little bit ago so I could see them in the Dark.
They did look very nice, but since it was Raining out I wasn't expecting much.
