Good find Mayor. I've perused the VXR forums looking for info that we might want to know but it's mostly the Astra guys, but not much on Insignia.
Further reading thru the site I found the rotor size we likely have on the GS also..

OK, I just started getting the dreaded constant brake tab squeal at around 17,000 miles. I read this entire thread, as well as all sub-threads, and I just have a few questions.

1.) Since the Brembo's wear faster and start squealing first, are most people just replacing the fronts? I was always under the impression that the brakes were like tires, and should be replaced all at once so they have even wear. But I guess that's not really possible if they are different brands that wear at different mileages.

2.) When you replace the pads, are you also getting the rotors turned? There is absolutely no stutter or shake in the brake pedal or steering wheel at this point, so I don't feel like they should need to be turned yet. But I want to do whatever is best practice.

3.) Does anybody have the specs on what thickness the rotors should be REPLACED at?

4.) I was looking at prices on GMPartsDirect. It says the fronts are $179, but it doesn't say anything about whether that is per pad, per pair (for one wheel), or per set (for both front wheels). Based on the price most people are reporting (almost $400), I'm guessing it's per pair for one wheel. $179 x 2 = $358. Is that correct?

1. When I had my front brembo oem pads changed my rears were fine and they made a note in my profile to check them during my next service appointment. They wear at different rates and are made of different materials.

2. Just have the dealership look at your rotors and they can give you their opinion. The tech took me under the lift and I was able to inspect the rotors myself. I had damage on both, so I had to replace.

3. If the thickness of brake pads is less than 3mm, it is time to change the pads You should check your pads everytime you get your oil changed. There is also a warning metal bracket that will make the brakes squeal when you get close.

4. Front Pads cost $179 total. Rears are much cheaper. You can also go with non oem and get both front and rear for $100 or so.

Hope this helps! I just went through brain damage of pads and rotors, so I am hoping to help others to save the $500 bucks I had to shell out!

jester , im glad you posted a link for both yellow and green pads .. for me its a tough call as i am starting to get low on my pads .. i want to replace the bembo track pads with the same track pad but im sick of cleaning my wheels , id go with yellow stuff BUT EBC does have a Blue Stuff made for the track and when i do get closer im going to check them out

after some research on brembos site for the insignia .. i found the pads part number 07.B314.48... after a quick google that part number matches the Mitubishi EVO X and the Audi TT RS 2012-2013 same pads
which reminds me when i was on the insignia forum someone was selling a set of the Audi TT RS pads and rotors

I have heard our brembo front brakes are the same size as many big brake kits for other models. I havent had the time to research, but the pads should all be similar because it is all about fitment. I stayed with OEM race pads because I love how firm the brakes are. My wife drives this car as her daily driver because I got a new SUV for me.

To get front brake pads for the GS from AutoZone you have to get the ones they stock for the G8 with front Brembos, so we know those are the same.

And changing to those pads on my car did not affect the terrific pedal firmness these cars have (when all is working correctly). I think a firm pedal is more a function of getting all the air out of the system and having a well designed and functioning brake booster system.

How much did your pads cost from auto zone?

$54 with lifetime warranty. I've been perfectly happy with them so far. I did keep the original pads in case I ever do AutoCross my car or bring it to the local road course (which I hope to do this summer).

Did you just do fronts or rears too??
Just fronts so far, with my main reason for making the change being dust, and second reason being the desire to 'save' the OEM race pads for if I ever did race the car. But now I'm thinking about doing the rears too as they make more dust than my new fronts. It's on my to-do list for this summer.

BUMP

Anyone get a part number off the stock GS rotors?

Just got home from the Dealer with information on replacing the Brembo Brakes I'm 18k and am due to replace the fronts. According to their records, it is the same brake set up that is on the 09 Pontiac G8 and the 10-13 Camaro SS/ZL1 Part #s are as follows:

13329562 Front Pads. Dealer Price ~$240 for the set
92245928 Front Rotors Dealer Price $132 Each

After parts and labor, dealer quoted me $713 to do the job pre-tax.....:vroom: Kindly took my ass out of there and researched the parts myself, found that GMpartsdirect offers the pads at $183 and the rotors at $70. Total cost to me ~$320 and a Saturday afternoon, I think ill be taking that route.:headbang:

Holy hell! I just went to order the pads, and GMPartsDirect is trying to add on $44 in shipping and processing fees! And they haven't even given me the option to choose a slower (and cheaper) shipping method, nor asked what my zip code is, in order to accurately estimate shipping. That seems like a lot to pick up a tiny little box of brake pads and ship them.

what brakes pads do we have on the rear? cant be brembos? a GM , Acdelco pad? i need to swap my pads at 17500 miles and with the upgraded power i want the best stopping for all corners

gotta look into this

Here are my slotted and drilled front rotors. This brand is made by the creators of Centric and I believe uses the same grade steel as most of the higher end rotor companies (Stoptech, R1, etc). They are pretty inexpensive and come with a warranty against cracks on the drilled aspect.

I have Auto-X with these once and they held up, but would not recommend to use them as a standard Auto-X rotor as drilled rotors typically will always be weaker than slotted or blank rotors overall (less surface area can degrade overall integrity). They definitely bite harder than basic blank rotors in my opinion.

Here is the link. These work only with the Brembo fronts, will not work on non-brembo due to size. I actually ended up buying them on Amazon due to Prime shipping...

Mediocre picture of them on my car.
