If your lucky enough to have red needle car...

I have to laugh at all this talk about top speed. Hey guys. It's only a 2000cc (2 liter) engine. Turbo or not. It's a two liter engine. You can only get so much Speed from two liters.

Talking about top speed, you can't even open it up in Europe as they now have Speed Camers on most roads. Even in Germany, the "No Speed Limit" parts of the Autobahn are less and less. Most areas of the Autobahn have speed limits. Europeans don't drive as fast as they once did. Too many cameras and VERY HIGH FINES.
I travel mostly in France, but also in Italy (where Italians drive crazy), Austria, Belgium and yes, Germany. Speed camera EVERYWHERE.

75% of the Autobahn still does not have speed limits... I've had my Tourx over 130mph several times and it feels absolutely ready to drive on the Autobahn. Even with the floaty Buick suspension, it feels planted and responsive at those speeds. All it (desperately) needs is a 6 speed manual transmission.

France is another story altogether... There is simply no way to drive at elevated speeds for more than a few miles without getting an automated ticket.

Everywhere I go in Germany seems to be under construction. So even if the 75% is correct, I believe that is before you take into account every stretch of road is getting reworked. Often when you hit an unlimited section it is only for a few miles before you have to slow down again. My colleagues over there said the roads have become a huge problem due to Germany's booming economy. They have so many more trucks on the road then they were designed to carry so there is more maintenance to be done. I just wish US roads we're maintained as well.

Agreed.

Our roads "could" be great, but only if fuel was taxed as high as Europ, but WHO WOULD WANT THAT? In France, I pay between $6 and $8 a gallon. Most of that is taxes, but I never see a pothole. In the alps, I asked if they salt the alpine roads. Oh no. The salt would make its way into the lakes.
They do drive better there than we do here, plus they take responsibility for themselves on snow covered roads, or mountain roads with no guard rails.

All it takes is taxes and I'm not prepared for that.

Well, maybe I am cynical but even if they charged us 6-8 bucks a gallon our roads would still be crap. It would just get funneled to some other hole in the budget.

But you're right, they do take responsibility for themselves more than people do here. At least in Germany they are required to have snow rated tires during the winter, if they don't they see fines much larger than just buying the tires. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to do something like that here. I don't know how many SUV's I have seen in ditches because they had "performance" tires on.

It wouldn't take more taxes. It would just require that the government use the money raised on fuel taxes and vehicles fees to actually be spent on roads and infrastructure.

As it currently is, the federal and state governments divert almost 1/4 of such fees to non-highway uses. Fix that, and our roads could be in much better shape.

I was being facetious about the taxes. <grin>.

Jersey recently raised the gas tax to "fix" the roads. Time will tell how much actually goes to that. Most will probably be spent and studies that say the roads and bridges are in disrepair which they already know.

Yeah really solid at high speeds since upgrading to 255 45 ZR tires. If it would not give R man a meltdown, I would say 150+ is a piece of cake, if you have early red needled Pontiac inspired version.

Remember my family member killed by a high speed driver?

Thanks for being so considerate and calling me out again.

I just wanted to follow up on this thread. For the Regals equipped with the 2.0T, have we definitively proven that the pre 2018.5 is limited at a higher speed than the post 2018.5? Do we have hard evidence?

Also, is there any information out there regarding the speed limiters being different between the pre/post 2018.5 GS?

Not to my knowledge. I think the 155mph limiter was a slip up on the early cars fro Buick. OEM tires are only V speed rated( 149mph)
PS
You should not be driving that fast. Nevada maybe?
