If your lucky enough to have red needle car...

I just wanted to follow up on this thread. For the Regals equipped with the 2.0T, have we definitively proven that the pre 2018.5 is limited at a higher speed than the post 2018.5? Do we have hard evidence?

Also, is there any information out there regarding the speed limiters being different between the pre/post 2018.5 GS?

Do we have people on here with tuning software? I can pull my red needle car data with HPTuner (assuming they have it unlocked by now) and probably let you know the speed limiter data.

Thems fightin’ words to some on this forum.
Not sure about anyone else on here R man, but people getting concerned about what I do, is not very high on my fighting list.
Now if the idiots want to take away my guns ....so that only criminals have guns ....thats much higher on my list.

Also curious if the speed limiter claim is true.

Well would say go see how fast it will go, but in your case R man probably should put on jack stands.

Awe, I love you too!

Do tell me if tires are off ground and suspension hanging ...if you feel anything weird as speedo gets to 130 or beyond 150.
PS I could not find any warnings against doing this in owners manual..so you should be good.

Reviving an old thread...New member and picked up a 2020 white needle a few weeks ago. Can confirm speed limited to 149. Car felt pretty well grounded, and not too floaty at all.

I can confirm with 100% certainty that my recently purchased (2 months) 2018 white needle with the Trifecta tune engaged will absolutely do the posted speed limit on I-4.

My OEM Conti ProContact tires are H-rated, so they are supposed to only go up to 130 MPH. Regal actually has no problem getting to 132 MPH, it handles great considering how plush the suspension is, but I don't need to go that fast. Electronic speed limiter activates at 132 MPH, I have 2018 2.0T red needle.

In Minnesota if you get convicted of going over 100 mph you will lose your license for 6 months. I don't think I would dare risk that ... Already got one speeding ticket in the Regal!

I've been to 120mph in my red needle. For an extended period during a drive through Utah and Colorado. It was surprisingly smooth. And still felt like it had more to give

It's a felony in some states including NY. And it's costly to get out of

I tried it once on an empty interstate after I read about it on this forum. I always drive with the flow and barely ever go more than 10 miles over speed limit. I had one ticket in the Regal and it was my first one in 15 years.

Unfortunately the Tourx suspension is pretty mushy so it takes a lot of concentration going that fast. It could be much stiffer at speed........

I have to laugh at all this talk about top speed. Hey guys. It's only a 2000cc (2 liter) engine. Turbo or not. It's a two liter engine. You can only get so much Speed from two liters.

Talking about top speed, you can't even open it up in Europe as they now have Speed Camers on most roads. Even in Germany, the "No Speed Limit" parts of the Autobahn are less and less. Most areas of the Autobahn have speed limits. Europeans don't drive as fast as they once did. Too many cameras and VERY HIGH FINES.
I travel mostly in France, but also in Italy (where Italians drive crazy), Austria, Belgium and yes, Germany. Speed camera EVERYWHERE.

As for high speed driving here in the USA, although I-10 and I-20 in far West Texas has 85 mph speed limits, you are still going to get caught as there are many Police out there.

I used to think I could open it up on US-380 between the TX-NM border and Roswell NM, until I saw the NM State Police on that road.
Now, the only lonely road I would try it (but won't) is US-380 between San Antonio NM and Carrizozo NM, (Just North of Trinity Site). My favorite lonely road is NM-246 between Capitan and Roswell NM, but that road not in good enough shape for a high speed run. I take it easy on that road and enjoy the scenery.
Arent F1 cars 2 liters ??

1.6 liter. And share very, very little with our street cars. Their idle speed is about equal to our peak hp rpm.

Toyota's 1.6L 3 cylinder is 300 hp, stock. Guys are building 2 liter engines with 4 digit hp numbers. So I get it, saying you can only get so much power is a bit silly. Speed Factory Racing has gone into the 7's in the 1/4 mile, at 212mph, in a 2000 hp 2.0 Honda (at 85 psi boost!).

My wife had an adverse reaction to medication after surgery. I’d been sent home because they didn’t allow overnight visitation, so I was home when I got the call just around midnight. It was a 14 mile trip in my 2019 white needle essence. At one point, I looked down and my speedo read 154. I’m serious. I could have been on a downward slope, I don’t know. All I know is that the car didn’t feel like it had reached its limits yet. I cautiously backed down to 130 until my exit. The entire trip took under 6 minutes, and security was surprised I showed up so fast. It’s gonna take a LOT to make me want another car.

Ha. Maybe In the 1/2 mile stretch of I-4 that isn’t totally congested.
Strangely enough, back on May 4th I went to Orlando to bring the daughter home from college and encountered only one (1) traffic jam, around effing disney of course. It was 107 miles door to door each way, the drive over only took 1h 40m and the return only 80 minutes (1h 20m for those of you not paying attention), I don't think I've ever traversed that section of road in such a short amount of time.
