The Ultimate Buick Regal Is Discontinued Discussion

GM may have abandoned the wagon along with sedans but others are still in it. GM could just get in bed with another manufacturer, like that never happened before, to put a plug in a hole it didn't see, again.

FCA/PSA is better at marketing their products than GM.
A plug in hybrid sedan/wagon could utilize the newer Insignia platform perhaps with just minimal platform integration.
A little interior upgrade like the Ram Pick-up, active suspension, & they would really be offering an attractive package, especially if given the SRT treatment.
GKN Automotive | Systems and solutions | Electric drive systems | eTwinster module
The Rüsselsheim plant could then have some utilization & not become the German version of Lordstown.
I guess still deep down I'm a Mopar Fanboy.

LJ, not sure if I'd be considered a Pontiac guy, but I sure liked my '03 Grand Prix GT - nothing fancy, really, but I didn't want to get rid of that car, until a person backed their vehicle out of their driveway into the GP, I barely avoided getting into a head-on. Yep, sadder.

I might be a bit crazy, but I think digging cars and AWD wagons is part of my "coolness"...

I can not complain about LS4 GP, other then being FWD.

My wife said, "Well, we killed another one." Our previous cars: 2008 Mercury Milan (Mercury - gone); 2006 Pontiac G6 (Pontiac - gone); 1999 Oldsmobile Intrigue (Oldsmobile - gone); 1997 Chevy Malibu (still kicking, but on life support); 1994 Eagle Vision (Eagle - gone); 1988 Acura Integra (Acura is still here, but the Integra isn't). I almost include my 1982 Audi Coupé since I got it about the time of the CBS 60 Minutes story about Audi 5000 unintended acceleration fiasco and Audi almost left the US market. But they stuck it out, and the Coupé was replaced later with the A5.

I felt the same when they wrote off my 1962 Rambler American, oh wait it was already dead when I bought it, never mind.

Long term profit v short term profit often has different priorities.

Profit in business comes from repeat customers, customers that boast about your project or service, and that bring friends with them. - W. Edwards Deming

How many of you Regal customers are now willing to do that for GM or for Buick? Prior to the Regal's cancellation and axing of anything not CUV/SUV/Truck how many of you would have been willing to tell people that they ought to give GM a chance?

This was my first GM product and the first American car I’ve owned. It gave me pride to have a unique car and wanted to keep it around and helped to spread the word to any random person who asked about it. This car literally gave GM a conquest over buying a Subaru.

Now? I will have to tell people that GM cancelled it and you can’t buy one. And I likely will be moving to whoever can keep making a wagon or van in several years time.

Feels like GM doesn't know what it's doing, but I guess at the end it's the consumers who do the talking, and what a bunch of stupid consumers they are today.

Now there is zero interesting American car at the price range. Funny enough the Insignia is considered to be a rather boring car in Europe, but it is in fact one of the most attractive designs here in NA. All of the Chevy sedans are just plain garbage imo.

I guess I'm gonna keep it for a while, selling it after the finance term is just going to be a financial disaster as there's probably nobody who's willing to buy it, despite it being a very capable, pretty, practical car with perfect value. Talking about which, it baffles my mind why GM is not even willing to sell what they have. If they had sales people who KNEW what the car was about, they could sell them with ease. Instead, none of the salespersons in my local dealer even know what it is, they just redirect the potential buyers to their stupid SUVs, most of which are bulky, thirsty, with not much space for cargo and even for humans. I've been in various SUVs including X5 and GL500, none of which provided better seating position and passenger space than my Regal. They are mostly lifted too high so that my knees collide with the glove box.

Found these floating on the net, could be a collectable just like the real thing. Sorry don't have a link, but they were on a EU based type eBay.

I guess that's what Opel means by downsizing LOL.

I went through this exact situation in October 2007. Read that the Dodge Magnum was being cancelled, 2008 would be the last model year. I was on the fence about getting a new car, but when I heard the news, I immediately went to the dealer thinking it’s now or never. Found out inventory was very limited, some dealers had none. Told they weren’t getting any more shipments so I asked about ordering one and they said it was too late. Seemed strange that in October of 2007, it was too late to order a 2008. Feeling frustrated, I gave up on the idea. Two weeks later, got a call from the dealer. He said he talked to the regional manager and got permission to order a car. Ordered end of October, got the car Jan 2nd. My car is rare, less than 1000 of the RT models were built that year. Not sure if the dealer was playing games or they just aren’t used to custom ordering.

Ordering seems to be very dealer dependent and in some cases manufacturer dependent.

I'm sure Chevy dealers are used to ordering Camaros, Corvettes, and sometimes trucks. As I'm sure that Ford dealers are used to ordering Mustangs and trucks equipped a certain way. I've heard that most FCA dealers don't mind ordering Challengers.

Part of the issue with our Regals is likely dealing with the PSA contract that has some specificity of overall numbers and perhaps even some trim level ratios. I have a feeling it would have been easier to order a Lacrosse or an Impala exactly as you wanted after cancellation was announced.

I have a feeling there's some behind the scenes drama between GM and Opel. That's what was the "final straw" in the Regal cancellation. I don't buy that it is simply a demand(or market transitioning to crossovers) based decision. There's something else there...

Could also explain the parts issues...

So, now that this car is dead... let's talk about all of the options for a nicely appointed sub-$40k full size car based wagon.

There's the .... the... ? It doesn't exist.

One could argue the Golf wagon, but it's significantly smaller and ...eww
Outback is SUV
Volvo, Merc, and Audi are $50k+

Volvo V60 starts at just below 40k. But it is basically a bare bone wagon. 😓
(Not to mention that Volvo car division is now owned by communist China)

Mind if I ask what's the matter with that? Apart from the fact that it is a Chinese company not China.
