Disable Automatic Stop/Start

I've never been a fan of behaviour modification, especially when it's an inanimate object (or corporation; almost the same) attempting to enforce its views. If anything, the vehicle should conform to your preferences, whether it be seat adjustments, interior temps or when to turn off the engine. The alternative leads to 'All hail our AI overlords!'.

I have put about 200 miles of local driving since I installed the Lasfit back up bulbs and the SS has not activated. Has anyone installed the led fog light bulbs? How much of the plastic below the fog light did you have to remove to access the light?
UPDATE
The car would not start the other day and there was a low voltage warning. I removed the LED back up lights and took the car to the dealer. The battery was replaced and I put the LED's back in. SS is back working. The repair order does not show any computer updates. Any idea why SS is back?

Disturbing turn of events...my car engaged auto s/s today for the first time since I've installed the Smart Stop/Start module. 1) Hopefully this was a one-off event, and 2) I forgot what that POS er, undesirable 'feature' was like.😡

I had mine in for just over a month when it did the same thing. It's happened twice. Removing and reinstalling when the engine is off seems to work. Contacted Range Technology, learned that since I purchased on Amazon (not an authorized distributor) that they would take a look if I wanted to send the unit to them but they could not guarantee any success with addressing the issue. Apparently Amazon has a number of sellers who are "dumping" devices that may be duds. Buyer beware, I guess...

The Smart Stop/Start module that I have is the one which mounts close to the hood latch & delays the latched signal for a few milliseconds so that the car thinks the hood was open when the car was started. Should be (as has been) rather fool-proof.

I wouldn't recommend those bulbs for use in any vehicle. Reverse bulbs are controlled by the BCM and the LED bulbs keep a draw current when the vehicle is off due to the resistance of the bulb. Auto stop simply isn't working due to voltage being too low. You are going to end up with a dead battery again.

See below... Same issue on other GM vehicles.

Electrical Issues Due to Backup Lamps – TechLink

I'm reading about all these issues and they are a bit concerning.

I'm up to 8,000 miles now on my 2019 Regal Sportback - I have had the Range technology device (purchased directly from them) for the last 7,500 of those miles. Thus far no issues. I went in for my first 7,500 mile service two weeks ago, where they also updated my software to 22.9. I have not replaced any other items in the car.

Everything appears to be working normally, and I have not had the "Device Not Found" or grayed-out radio buttons issues since they updated the software. So hopefully the issues people have been having thus far are only related to the under-hood application and/or switching out LED bulbs.

Would you consider trying these fog lights and leave the LASFIT reverse lights in?

Alla Lighting H11 H8 LED Bulbs... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N67FMQ5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I now believe that the LED fog lights are creating the error in the BCM creating the fault in the ASS.

Also, have you made any changes or modifications to your Regal?

OK--just an update. Have driven the car since (two ignition cycles) and glad to report that the auto S/S has NOT re-appeared. So it does seem to be a one-off event.🙂

Another thing I've noticed: let the RT module boot up after it was disconnected and plugged back.
I had two instances where I've started engine too soon and ended up with limited power error on the dash.

This type of occurrence is very rare, but there are a couple of simple hints for using SmartStopStart that will prevent this completely. Note that SmartStopStart programs the auto stop override for the upcoming drive when the ignition is turned on.

-When you get in the car make sure at least 3 seconds elapse from unlocking the door or opening the door (if already unlocked) and hitting the dash start button. (The 3 second timer is a lockout period that allows remote start to work). Most people take way more than 3 seconds unless they are in a really big rush, so this is rare.

-If you sit in the car with the engine off for more than 10 minutes (like if you are waiting for someone at the airport), the vehicle, along with the module will power down to sleep mode after 10 minutes and the SmartStopStart would not be enabled when you start the car. If this is the case simply hit lock or unlock, or open and close a door to wake the car, then wait 3 seconds prior to starting.

This is starting to sound like the "Konami Code" for Contra.

That might have been the problem--I usually have the 'start' button pressed before I finish closing the door.

Put the car in "Neutral and then back into Drive" as you slowly come to a stop (...under about 10 MPH).
I've found this prevents the engine from turning off.

Much like taking a manual transmission out of gear as you approach a stop light to save the Clutch.
I've two MT cars, so this is easy to adapt here.

With practice, you can get pretty good at it as well.
No worries.

Sure there is... install LED reverse lights or LED foglights... problem solved.

I bought a 2019 Regal last year and immediately bought the Stop/Start OBP plug-in device from Range Technology. It has worked perfectly for me.

I have LTD Fog lamps. Still have ASS, but ASS does not bother me at all.

At first, did not think I would like it, but you get used to it and does not bother me at all. If I want to be sure it does not go o to ASS mode, as when I pull into my garage, I just shift to manual, then Immediately back to auto mode.

No problem. (I’m easy).

So what was your second-choice car, which will now become your first-choice car? And was whatever made it second-best to the Regal, less off-putting than getting used to ASS/installing a Range/shifting to manual occasionally?
