2019 Encore back up camera

I have no idea what you talking about!

Sorry, this post got a little sidetracked with comments about where cars were produced, other brand camera's, and what is patriotism.

When you used the foreign made reference I assumed it was a reference to the vehicle and not the camera, my bad. To try and answer what I now believe was your intended question, I would think the other models would have the same 8" Intellink settings and adjustments as they share the same base and software as far as I know.

I do have a new Encore and I have had nothing but a clear picture when backing up. Only after a rain did I have to wipe off one lens as it became blurry.

I can't believe that there wouldn't be a display adjustment. Mine does. In the infotainment manual page 67 it says to touch screen for menu settings. But you have to do this while reverse image is there. So foot on the break pull lever in reverse and touch the screen menu settings should appear like Auto, night, day, brightness.

My 2019 Encore back up camera has a poor image, very bright washed out image, any one else have same problem?
It’s hit or miss, my 2017 has a lousy image too. Once in a while it’s clear...night time is the worse.

I have found even a little bit of dirt makes for a blurry image. I regular wipe it off with my index finger.

2017 and later Encores have the updated camera and Intellilink system which is considered to be one of the better ones on the market. It is not shared with its cousin Trax and its Mylink system which is considered average. The Intellilink's camera focus is adjustable with or without lines. I have no problem seeing a wide clear picture.
How is the focus adjustable?

I will have to look into this further as I don't see anything in the manual on this. On the 2016 Encore when backing up you would use the Tune/menu button and turn the dial for contrast adjustment. I recall someone saying that on the later models (2017 +) there is a different button but I will have to research it a little bit.

Yes, it is affected by dirt and rain. The backup lights wash out the image at night, too. The image on my 2019 Encore is quite good, otherwise.

After further review all 2017 + models do not have additional contrast adjustments. The 2nd generation has a default non-adjustable contrast that is not required to be adjusted. As mentioned, make sure all camera lenses are clean as more times than not that is the issue. Also, software controls a lot of these features with the infotainment system. If still not viewable after cleaning contact your dealers service department as this would be covered under your 4-year bumper to bumper warranty.

Having taken a test-drive in a 2019 Encore tonight, Yea, .. Yuck. It seemed really bad. I thought it was maybe just the pictures I was seeing. The Hyundais we test drove the other day had really good and clear cameras in similar lack of light.

Our 2016 Enclave has quite a good camera by comparison.. How come the Encore is going BACKWARDS with the camera technology? ..Hmm.

While not the 'end of the world', it's annoying. I also find it daft that you have to go to the full Essence model to get a dimming rear view mirror. My 2002 Mercury Sable has that!

Hello All!
I've been reading through this thread and this is my experience and input. I really like Buick products, I bought my first 2012 Verano when it debuted in 2012, I loved everything about it, including a great backup camera, so much so that when it was totaled in an accident in 2015, ( my fault, no one hurt). I immediately bought a 2015 verano. I eventually traded it in and bought an awesome 2014 Lacrosse premium2. By far my favorite car. Bought it used with 19,000 MLS on it single owner lease. Then, in fall of 2019 I traded it for a brand new Encore. I have to admit, I regret that decision for a couple reasons, I think the Encore is over priced ( even after discounts/ incentives. For what you get they should gave included more and better options.. And YES!! The back up camera is the worst I've ever seen, I did go back to 2 different dealerships to complain. First one said there's nothing wrong, they all look like this. He took me out on park ng lot and we looked at 4 different encore including a 2020.. The second dealership actually agreed it was horrible and replaced it with a new factory camera.. And it was crap also.
My only choice here is to find a better HD 1080 or better with Sony star vision and have a friend replace the factory with it.
Side note.. I did buy an awesome rear view mirror overlay 12" that gives me both front and rear view constant recording G sensor, HD1080 front and 2K rear 170degree with Sony starvision. On sale on Amazon $99 paid a guy $125 to do install and I ftiggen love it... I wish more auto manufacturers took note of these and implemented them into vehicles..
This was long winded but thanks for reading..

Sorry to hear your issues, luckily they are not common as my camera view is excellent!

I'll just throw on my $0.02
We use small cameras at work (actually advertised as rear view cameras) , and they're inexpensive with a 10X better image than any I've ever seen on any rear view camera equipped vehicle.
So one has to wonder if it's lens design or just ultra cheap cameras.
My '16 has a washed out image but the lens looks to be clear so I lean towards the camera.

Perhaps I'll pull some trim and see about replacing it, but to be honest, I don't use it often (old school driver) so it's not high on my list.

I think the majority of camera related issues are user related. The first generation Encore's had an adjustable image while the 2017 + had a fixed view. A lot of people don't think to clean the lenses or scratch the lenses with dry wiping. Those who buy vehicles used can usually blame it on the previous owner again, dry wiping.

I know the image on my '16 looks as though the protective plastic cover was left on the camera lens during installation. Washed out, blurry focus (compared to the cameras we have at work). I was setting up one recently and the film was still on the lens. That's when I noticed the similarity.
Wouldn't that be funny if the backup cameras people are complaining about still had that film on them????
NO.

Same problem with my 2019 Encore. Will let you all know when I take it in what happens here in Nashville. Also, am going to get them to fire up a couple on the lot to see if they are the same.
I'm in Nashville also. Did you go to the one downtown or Serra in Madison? I got mine from Serra in Madison. 2016 Certified Preowned/used. I have the same issue with my camera. I had a Kia Soul that I traded in, and the camera was wonderful. Disappointed to say the least when this one was not as good as the Kia.

Yep. 2016 Certified Preowned. Traded in my 2016 Kia Soul with a wonderful, clear rear camera. Disappointed to say the least (about the camera. I love my Encore)

You can adjust the 2016 brightness. Hit config
The contrast I believe. Don't the first generation models use the volume control knob or something like that when backing up to adjust the contrast?

While the vehicle is in reverse, press the MENU button. This enables contrast adjustment. Use the knob to adjust.
My image was terrible until I found out about the adjustment. Now, not too bad!
