Coding in additional information pages/themes to Guage Cluster

I think service fees and the price for a new instrument cluster are very reasonable. Aftersales support is also a big selling point for me. Some companies are charging $149.99 just for "Mileage Programming". Overall this a smoking deal in my opinion. I paid in the past $199 for "BMW Speedometer Cluster LCD Display Dead Pixel Repair"

The bottom line- getting cluster from suppliers is impossible for regular people. Plus the headaches to do everything. Changing used cluster to your vin is pain in the neck. I did an extensive research on this matter- guys are charging fair price to do the job.

Pricing it out for what I want it looks like a price I'd be willing to pay. I'll probably end up doing this, I really miss having a large, center mounted analog speedometer in this car, plus this cluster looks a lot better all around, imho. The other features it comes with are iceing on the cake.

Since you have to take apart a good chunk of dash, may as well cut a few extra wires...

The red/violet wire is the +12V supply to the touchscreen. Attached about two feet of additional wire (solder & heat-shrink) and brought it down to the driver's side. Cut a hole in the plastic, installed a switch.

One less night-time driving distraction.

Can you ship these to APO addresses? I am stationed in Germany currently.
In theory yes generally we dont ship to PO boxes but I believe APO is handled differently by UPS. Worst case you could do like all of our export dealers and use a freight forwarder.

I figured out that I will order a brand new GS bumper cover, with used one there is always a lot of guessing. There might be already existing damage, rock chipping, scratches at the bottom - this translates to an additional $$$ for extra prep work and repairs.

A Night Panel switch like Saabs have would be nice but if I don't wish to do this and if I'm going from a TourX cluster to a GS cluster of same year and all other things being equal is it purely a plug and play for the wiring or does it require any changes to any of the cluster connectors?

I wish the night panel switch was commonplace on more vehicles. But, I have found the press and hold power button to "turn off" the display, or turning it off in the settings, to be sufficient. Nowhere near actually being off, but it's acceptable and somewhat eliminates the distraction. I wonder if this feature is present on the older UI?

No replacement for a true on/off switch though.

Yeah, the Saab night panel is pretty cool on long nighttime trips to reduce eye fatigue. It leaves only the speedo and some buttons illuminated and then any other gauge or light is only illuminated when it needs attention. It's an underappreciated feature that should be more universal and can't be that hard to implement when designing these systems. What's one more button when I have a row of mostly blank ones in front of the gear selector anyway?

In the past, I also owned 9-3 convertible and 5 door 9-3 and the night panel was awesome! It's like the greatest thing while driving at night! It really helps with the strain on your eyes! The Saab Night Panel function:

This function blacks out of the instrument panel, apart from the speedometer. This reduces the risk of distraction while driving at night. All the systems still work in the background and the appropriate guage or lamp will light up when the driver's attention is required. A good example of Saab's aircraft heritage.

Would be even better if it has a HUD and just the HUD is illuminated, right?

As far as the cluster goes--it should be just plug & play. There are some wires on the the cluster connector which have different functions depending on your car's options, but WAMS will know what you have by way of your VIN.

No real reason to. Once we complete the conversion they basically look identical 😉

I know, but this used unit cost around €100 (117.98USD) vs. $450 for a brand new instrument cluster. The difference is $350 and would cover WAMS $299.97 fees

So if I have the upgraded cluster already and I just wanted to enable pocket gauges to be changeable or a theme change, can this be done via remote programming if I get whatever obd plug and associated software plus teamviewer on laptop?

quite a bit easier if so rather than removing the existing cluster and having no car for a few weeks or spending extra on a new cluster.

Just a couple of images--sorry about the slight blur, but hand-held shots at 1/15 sec. after a cup of coffee tend to turn out like that.

The Vauxhall griffin does exist, but he's a bit camera shy.

Is there a turbo boost gauge?
