♚ Regal GS - Brembo Brakes ♚ Master Thread ♚

Update from my brake adventure. Replaced pads and rotors and also had a rear caliper leaking (outlined in other thread). New pads (only replaced front) did not have the initial byte of the performance OEM. Took a while to bed (did not have the time to do it properly, so on the road). Now that brakes have had some miles put on them, they seem very good. I don't believe they up to the performance pads installed stock.....but can take the trade off with no dust.

In any case, don't see any issues with pads and good deal on what you get. I've taken the car on autocross and don't see an issue running the current pads on a course.

Has anyone figured out how to remove the Brembo pads from a 2014 GS without removing the caliper ? Or is it a must because of the update caliper ? Also, can someone please explain why I would need a torque angle gauge if I remove the caliper.

Tightening fasteners by the torque angle instead of the torque wrench provides for a much more accurate fastening. Torque wrenches have a measurement that uses pounds per foot. However, there is inherently some error in this measurement as it does not take into account any friction. Friction affects bolts differently as the difference between old and new bolts as well as the material of the bolt all will create friction. This causes measurements to be altered. This friction error is removed when measuring by the torque angle.

I have just over 52K miles with the original Brembo pads. I was curious to see how much meat is left. Being lazy tonight, I used my endoscope with my phone instead of taking the wheel off and took some pictures. I'm kinda surprised how much is left. My wife drives the car most of the time (until the lease is up on my Camaro next month 😉)

Wow figuring out replacement parts for a 14 GS is fun...
So far, I've found the following that may be helpful to others as it is not always obvious. I also found some questions I cannot find the answer to.

The Brembo brake configuration is J64

Outer diameter of the front rotors is 345mm - the online chilton manual linked on this forum states 355mm, which is wrong.

If you're replacing the rotors, you need to replace the brake caliper bracket bolts as the are TTY (torque to yield) bolts and should not be reused.
The part numbers for the bracket bolts are:
THIS IS WHERE I'M HAVING A LOT OF TROUBLE. I'm finding conflicting numbers in different diagrams for what the part number is for these TTY bolts. Does anyone have a definitive answer for the 2014 gs?
11611085??? 11562022??? - front brake caliper bracket bolts. You will need 2 per caliper, so 4 total
??? - rear brake caliper bracket bolts. I CANNOT FOR THE LIFE OF ME FIND THIS PART NUMBER
The torque specs are:
Front brake caliper bracket bolts - 30 lb ft + 90 degrees
Rear brake caliper bracket bolts - 74 lb ft + 60 degrees
Front & rear brake caliper guide pin bolts - 20 lb
Front brake rotor bolts - 62 lb
Rear brake rotor bolts - 89 lb

For anyone reading this someday, I thought I'd clarify this:

Front & rear brake caliper guide pin bolts - 20 lb ft
Front brake rotor bolts - 62 lb in
Rear brake rotor bolts - 89 lb in

I, too, had trouble figuring out the correct bolts for the '12 GS. In case anyone is curious, the front TTY bolt that holds the caliper bracket to the spindle is: GM 11570788. The rear ones are GM 11516330 (perhaps the rear didn't change to '14, but I'm not sure). It's been many years, but I'm pretty sure I had to sit down with the parts guy at my local dealer to confirm those numbers.

I'm getting ready to do my front brakes again. Earlier in the thread, I posted about my woes with the god awful squeal of aftermarket setup I chose. So I want to go back to OEM this time. I'm seeing some conflicting part numbers and just want to make sure I'm buying the correct stuff.

GM Parts Direct shows the front pads part# as 13329562 (with "GM" as the manufacturer) at a price of $202.34. On RockAuto, it shows the GM part# with an alternate part# of 1171089 (with AC Delco as the manufacturer) at a price of $167.79. Are the AC Delco parts of equal quality to the GM parts? The RockAuto price is so much cheaper, but I decided I'm not skimping out on cheaper quality parts this time.

Same with the rotors GM Parts Direct lists them as part# 92245928 for $79.23 and RockAuto has an alternate AC Delco part# of 1771050 for $71.79.

Any input on whether these are essentially the same parts or not AND if they will fit the GS front with Brembo's would be greatly appreciated.

'14 GS. Everything fit. ALL from RockAuto. (anyone want to trade magnets)

ACDelco parts have the GM catalog part number and the ACD# on the box.

Other than the front calipers and front pads, your GS left the factory with ACDelco brake components.

Honestly, I don't collect them,,,,,,, BUT my toolbox, fridge, and filing cabinet are interested in numbers; 71, 78, 86, 131, & 185.MagnetPack__ra_p.webp

I have always done my own brakes, and I'm fairly sure mine didn't come with Brembo pads from the factory. At least...not the ones with the bright red paint on them like the ones you got from Rock Auto. For better or worse, I went with the AC Delco pads(GM Part# 13329562 / AC Delco Part# 171-1089). And I thought I got a great deal...on GM Parts Direct, they were $202.34 and on Rock Auto they were $167.79. I found one set on Amazon for $73.96. But now I see that the Brembos you got are only $39.79 per set on Rock Auto. So I'm back to being peeved about what I paid. I hope these work as good as new and I can finally get rid of the squeal from this Power Stop Z23 + Centric Ctek rotors setup.

speaking of squeal, my Regal exhibited a squeal phenomena that I have never experienced before on any car, nor could I find any evidence on-line of anyone reporting this on any car. My Regal, with 'Power Stop Drilled and Slotted' front rotors would squeal when cold no matter what pad or anti-squeal trick I threw at it. And I tried at least three different pads, including the OEM pads that I knew worked fine when I got the car, and all sorts of 'back of the pad' anti-squeal remedies that have worked for me on other cars over the years. I'm convinced it was a pure rotor phenomena... I changed to a different rotor and all those pads that squealed were fine again. That rotor just did not like being cold.

Mine seems to be related to moisture. Even when parked in the garage, a certain level of humidity would cause the most wicked squeal you've ever heard in your life, for about the first 3-4 stops. Like a garbage truck braking under full load, only higher pitched. Then it goes away. It must form a light coat of rust that makes the pads vibrate at just the right frequency. I'm currently working on a project at work that requires me to be out the door at 4:15AM, and my driveway is a long downhill. So I've been less than popular as I squeal down the driveway at 4AM.

Mine was equally horrible and seemed totally temperature dependent. Rotor temperature below about freezing would squeal horribly... worse than any city bus I've ever heard. Once the rotors got above about freezing (due to using the brakes or ambient being higher than about freezing), no more sound at all. Only solution was different rotors for me.

I know this thread is getting a bit old. But I'm starting to feel like I have a unicorn car. From what I'm seeing is the rotor size on my '14 GS is 345 mm (13.5) inches. Not 321mm listed on Autozone/Oriely/Advance. Waste of time returning the rotors and pads.
So I've located the parts on Rock Auto as some listing state 345mm (Durango brand BR90050802 for example)
However, I'm concerned on the pad size I need is also different then listed before. I would assume the pad would be bigger for the rotor. Everything I keep seeing points to "1001" pad. Some due have "1050" in the part number but what i'm seeing is the Dimensions are the same. So before I order the pads online I wanted to see if anyone else figured this out.
Granted in my frustrated state, I didn't think to measure the pads before reassembly with the old stuff..
So anyone have the 345mm rotor set up and figured out the correct pads?

Update:

After speaking to a few Buick dealer parts departments (they didn't all agree...), I ordered:

11611085 - front brake caliper bracket bolts. You will need 2 per caliper, so 4 total
11609768 - rear brake caliper bracket bolts. You will need 2 per caliper, so 4 total
I swapped out my rear brake rotors (durago BR90090002) and pads (akebono ACT1430) this past weekend and the caliper bracket bolts did fit.
I'll be swapping out my front brake rotors (durago BR90050802 ) and pads (akebono ASP1001) this weekend and will update if the listed parts fit.

All the parts fit. However, now I'm confused by the brembo calipers on this car. Are all 2014+ GS brembo calipers like this? You cannot slide the pads out the front of the calipers; you need to remove the calipers from the hub to pull the pads out of the back of the calipers. This is because the front of the caliper is more like a diamond shape rather than a rectangle and the pads hit the corners (red circles on the attached pictures) when you try to remove the pads.

I haven't seen this in any other brembos or any brembo videos on youtube.
