2018+ Regal: All Things Accessories

I thought it would be handy to have a common place to discuss all things accessories for the 2018+ Regals. Post pictures, questions, reviews, OEM products, and aftermarket goodies. Maybe specific, individual, threads will work out better in the long run... let's give it a go? 🤔

I'll start off with a super exciting picture of the OEM cargo liner (39105580) and cargo net (84051444). The liner is decent but I wish it was a more precise fit. I expect the laser cut aftermarket liners will fit better. Again, the cargo net is decent. I prefer the vertical nets that are more of a hammock. Smaller objects won't be very secure in the horizontal net offered for the Regal. However, it's probably ideal for larger items.

Is the liner is reversible? Mine in my GS is like a carpet on one side and rubber the other side

Tugging on your knob is just gonna break it... err... anyway... You need to pry up the shift boot/bezel to access a couple of retaining tabs just below the shift knob. Once those retaining tabs are released, you can slide the boot and bezel back down. With the boot out of the way, you'll now have access to a U-shaped metal clip that locks the shift knob to the lever. Remove the clip and the knob will pull right off.
Thank you. I had the shift boot and bezel out. I thought I checked under the knob well but apparently not good enough. Thanks for the help. And yes I knew that tugging with all my might on my knob would break it and that's why I didn't

Anyone know where I can score the Illuminated Door Sill Plates for a reasonable price? The Buick Accessories store wants $295 for them and the best price I can find through an online GM dealer is $236.

Buick has a 15% off MSRP coupon for purchases of $100 or more and a 20% off MSRP coupon for purchases of $250 or more. Neither of those will help me get a lower price than I’ve already found.

I really like them, but not at that price. If I could get them for $200 or less I’d probably do it.

Just sharing my experience on these puppies.

They came with my vehicle when the dealer ordered the wagon, and let me tell you, I won't pay for them based on the way they operate. (At least not at this price!)
They run on lithium batteries and simply operates by pressure sensors (they turn off once I finger press on it). And it is a pain in the you know where when I have to replace the battery. They are very hard to get back in place where I actually had to replace one of them through warranty (thank goodness!).
I would gladly pay for them if they are powered by the vehicle's battery like other vehicles that I have seen.

Do you happen to know the operating voltage? I can probably modify them to be hardwired and then tie them in with the kick panel lights.

I bought a 6-pack of variable output buck converters that are about one inch squared. It takes 10-20VDC in and can output 12, 5, and 3.3 VDC. I could splice into the kick panel wires and attach the buck converter to the back side with epoxy.

It’s really not much work and I’d prefer that to having to mess with batteries.

The pdf link above is pulled from Buick accessories.
As you can see, there are 2 CR2430.

"Q: How are these door sill plates powered?
A: Each door sill plate is powered by two 3-volt batteries. For further information on installation or maintenance, see your Buick dealer."

According to the website. (Buick Accessories)

I honestly have no idea if they are running together or separately though (that was not on my mind when I pulled the plate off).
Only memory I retained is that pain in the back to try putting the damn thing back in place.
Sorry for not much help on this part.

No worries. I’m sure they will operate within a voltage range, but even if I had to use two converters they don’t need much space.

Funny thing is that GM thought of tapping into the electrical system for the foot well lights on some models but not this.
Last gen Regal has a bulb in the door too.

Same bunch of penny pinching decision makers that didn’t see it necessary to have the ambient lighting also extend to the rear doors.

Or the front parking sensors given our long hood. 😩
I sure don't like those bean counters in Ren Cen.

But hey, we have that overly complex pedestrian protection system that pops the hood up as standard.....

Have you looked at what it would take to retrofit those accent LED’s in the rear doors?

It could probably be done with fiber optic lighting or I think I’ve seen some really thin LED strips that might work.

Fiber optic would be the way to go. That is how the existing accent lighting is executed. There is a single LED at one end of the filament. Probably wouldn't be too difficult buying the two front door assemblies and doing a little trimming to get them to fit.

The fun part would be the electrical side, especially to maintain the dimming function.

Would I have wanted it if it was an option? Absolutely. Would I now be willing to pay for it in my time and money? Nah... Guess I am a penny pincher when it comes to rear accent lighting too lol. I would like to wire up rear heated seats eventually though.

I believe the front ambient are all done with fiber optics light pipes. When I put my GS cluster one of the connections for the trim is a fiber optic connection that lights up the bar in the dashboard. Problem with the rear doors is maybe not so much getting a light source there but how to graft a fiber optic fixture into the door panel and have it look right.
